How do you know which sins are more sinful?

WE DON'T GET OUR OWN PLANET!!!!!!! Geez, that is the one misconception I cannot stand!!!!!

Hey, I'm just relating what I learned about Mormons through her. I read the book as well, didn't agree, but from her explaination of the different "levels" of heaven, that's what I got from it.

Start yelling at people and you loose the chance to right their misconception, since they quickly stop listening.

yea i know it just annoys me everytime i hear someone talking about their 'jealous angry' god......

its completely silly...why would an omniscient omnipotent being feel either of those emotions?? Man creates the gods its culture deserves, Divinity carries on irrguardless

Well, if you want to look at it from a Christian theology standpoint, God mad man in his own image, with a free will, emotions, etc, thus it would stand to reason that God has the same emotions that man does. That can be seen through the interactions of the 12 Tribes (Jewish) of the Old Testiment and God. The salvation, the punishment, the wars, etc.

I will let people believe whatever they want about Mormons in most cases, b/c they're usually ignorant and don't know what they're talking about. But the "planet" idea is just so ludicrous. It drives me insane. Sorry to yell at you. I just REALLY HATE religion bashing, in case you can't tell. And I mean ANY RELIGION BASHING. It's the most disrespectful thing you can do.

Like I said, through her and reading the book, that's basically what I got from it. So look at it this way, I'm not bashing, I'm just sharing what I've seen/read.

I hate to do it this way, to answer a question with questions, but in the same vein as, "which sins are more sinful,

Which weighs more, a pound of lead or a pound of feathers?

Does it make you any more of a liar if you tell a "little white lie" or if you tell a "whopper"?

I agree with Kelly on this one. Obviously the girl you dated wasn't that much of a "hard core" mormon. She probably had some jacked-up ideas that she relayed to you.

exactly...man created God in his own image, not the other way around
so much for omniscient omnipotent then...:S:ph34r:

i dont know about you but if i believed in a God with human emotions, faults and foilbles i'd chose the greek pantheon, they would be much more entertaining at parties!

If one reads, and pays close attention to the writings in the new testament gospels, one may draw some important observations.

If you believe that Christ was the son of God, and posessed the character of God (and I realize many here do not... not trying to argue that point) then I think it is important to note what made Christ the most consistently angry.

It was not the woman caught in adultery who was thrown at his feet to be stoned.

It was not the lost, the general sinners if you will.

It was not the misguided, stumbling, or even the purposefully disobedient.

It was the religious leaders of the day wherein Christ poured his wrath out. He lashed out at them like no one else. And in that act, we might see what God considers to be the greater of sins.

And that is - those who say they have no sin, are good, are pure, and beyond reproach, and who forcefully impose that brand of perfection on others under them. It is this act of ruling over others with the intent of elevating oneself in the name of God that Christ seemed to clearly despise the most.

That is important for all of us that consider themselves Christians to remember. We must not say that we are better than others - because we are certainly not. We must not brag in this regard, because it will be our downfall.

The second area that Christ seemed to be warning about is those who hurt children. When he held the child in front of him and warned that those who hurt one such as this, "it would be better for him if a millstone was hung around his neck, and thrown into the sea" then to deal with the consequences of hurting a child - I think that also said something about what God thinks is particularly bad.

These are not definatives about what sin is worse, but I think a lot can be gleaned by Christ's reaction to the particular sin that was encountered.

Just one Christian's perspective, though -

Which sins are we talking about; just the ones on God's top ten list or all of the other ones that other folks have lumped in?

Here's my take on it. It IS more sinful to hurt somebody than it is to love somebody. There's all kinds of ways to hurt people, so, ya also wanna take that into consideration too.

I know I'm guilty.

Hmm. Have you ever worked on a sunday?

****************************************
Ever read the Bible? (the Sabbath was a Saturday)

Jesus, While working, was questioned by the Pharasies* (fat Cats that were protecting their jobs) about that and the answer is Matthew 12:11-12
"and He said to them*, if any of you has a sheep and it falls into a pit onthe sabbath will you NOT take hold of it and lift it out?
How much more valuable is a man than a sheep!?
Therefore it IS lawful to do good on the Sabbath".

Kelly

When I attended Church of LDS, THe Book Of Mormon stated the 3 planes of Heaven. You family could be divided up depending on how you lived your life. The picture/sketches show to me during my studies were drawn out as planets with Saturn like rings. This maybe just for visual aid but, in fact they looked like planets.
Artistic impression leaves specific thoughs in our minds and "3 Planets" is a common one for explaining the after life according to J.Smith.

Val,

I think you have asked an awesome question and I believe you did with complete sincerity.

First of all, we are all sinners that can be redeemed. It's in our nature. Anyone who judges someone elses culpability is committing a very grave sin. I'm not talking about man made law here and the judicial system.

According to Judeo-Christian teachings, all sins fall within the context of the 10 Commandments. There are many sinful acts that fall within those Commandments. If you read a reputable Catechism, you will see what acts I am talking about.

Nice thread,
Chris

BTW BillVon, as you know, we both attended the same All boys High School. I'm sorry you came away with a much different experience than I did.
