Why can't we just get one system of f'n temperature?

Recommended Posts

Fahrenheit works just fine!

what the hell are :

Celsius

Rankine

Reaumur

Kelvin

Specifically used for, that is so neccessary, that you cannot just use one scale?

temperature is actually defined as the average kinetic energy per molecule of the substance of interest.

A temp scale with negative values means you have to think about negative energy - that's no good boo boo.

So Kelvin is the way to go - no kinetic energy per molecule then it has zero temp.

Well Celcius is used by pretty much every one except yanks
Kelvin is a scientific scale where ZERO kelvin (note no degrees) is the temp at which EVERYTHING will freeze (-273C) the others I'm not sure of with yout google -ing

OK - but numbers don't actually exist - I have no problem with negative numbers, I even have a few that I use all the time.

What are you, a Negative Numberist?>:(

Dayum... I am so hot here its 267 K... and its precipitating a hell of a lot of molecules of frozen water are dumping all over the place.

Fixed it for ya

HA!

it's 273 Kelvin Here - It's like Air Conditioning compared to where you are!

Celsius are perfect.
Water freezes at 0 degrees
Water boils at 100 degrees
Right angle boils at 90 degrees
Atmonauti fly at 45 degrees

:|

DUDE!! How do you get your right angles to boil?:o

I've been trying for a week now but all I get is a bit of decreased viscosity.[:/]

All I know is that my blood freezes at 70F.

Celsius? YOU do the math...or else Steven will do it for you. Better yet, let's get his students to do it and see what all they come up with! I got money on all the numbers, rational and irrational, between 0 and 42 gazillion.

Celsius puts 0 at the freezing point of water, and 100 at the boiling point, but that is too logical so we Amuhricans don't use it.

Fahrenheit doesn't work fine
Celsius works fine..

how many of you can figure out how many inchs are in miles, by head????
how many of you can figure out how many centi meters are in kilo meter???

Why don't we just follow the whole damn world and use metric system..

That's what my handy lil conversion calculator is for....

It converts: volume, weight, length, temp, area, and cubic...

love it!!!!

If you're going to have only one scale, it will need to be Kelvin.

Whoa there chief! Lemme think about this.

I know that putting zero on the scale makes sense, but what else is so magical about the Kelvin scale?

Why couldn't I have a scale called "quade" where zero is the same as Kelvin and 100 the triple point of water?

Wouldn't that have made a whole F-load more sense than 273.16K?

same reason you still use the Imperial system....resistance t change.

As far as I can find, only two other countries still officially use the Imperical system:

Liberia and Burma (or if you want Myanmar)

Most of you will now point to the UK, however, they are, from what I can find, officially on the Metric system, with the exception of the use of miles, yards, feet and inches for road traffic purposes.

Because we're arrogant and the leaders of the free world and we can do any damn thing we're damn well pleased with, thank you very much.

British schools were teaching degrees C decades ago - back when C stood for Centrigrade, to make it even more confusing. But most people still seem to use Fahrenheit - I think because our TV forecasters have been spoon-feeding us with temperatures using both scales ever since.
