What color should I paint my porch?

Recommended Posts

For those of you who are following the "How to get cats to stop pissing" thread here's my follow-up dilemma.

What color should I repaint my porch? It used to be a light green. My house stucco color is a very light grey, and the trim blue. The tile table in this picture is new and I'd like to compliment it as well.

I also have a front porch to paint, but that can wait. The front door to compliment is a mahogany brown. :^)

Candy-apple red. That's always a can't-lose.

Actually, I was considering a brick red color. Still can't visualize what would compliment the best, though.

brick red & dark gray

Lori,

Concrete or wood?
There are some great concrete stains out in the brick red and sealers.

Picture should show the cement floor of the porch. ;)

Interesting you should comment about stains. Just found this web site that mentions stains for concrete floors. http://www.stretcher.com/stories/05/05sep05a.cfm

I also like the idea of a cement sander instead of a chemical paint stripper to get up the remaining old paint.

I thought so, but the picture on this end was a little light.
I had some friends do the concrete stain thing, but they rented a concrete buffer and did some kind of acid thingy to smooth it out, then power-washed it, then stained it, then sealed it... looked great.

Yeah, a link on staining/painting mentioned the same thing:

http://www.essortment.com/home/paintfloorporc_saeo.htm

"A new concrete porch should be allowed to cure for 90 to 180 days before painting. It will also be necessary to acid etch a new concrete floor with a 10 percent solution of muriatic acid to allow the paint to adhere properly. After the acid treatment, paint on one coat of concrete primer. Allow the primer to dry at least eight hours. Paint on two coats of latex paint using either a roller or spray rig. Use a paint brush to get around the edges. Allow the paint to cure for a minimum of two days before walking on the floor."

Since my concrete porch isn't new, and it was painted before, I believe I can skip the acid step.

btw, what color did -you- use on your porch?

In Zhills, we still have our Christmas lights on, but
we're rednecks. ;)

That picture is an old one, taken on December 17 of last year. :P Almost had a white Christmas!

Instead of wasting time painting it, spend an
afternoon making loops out of a bunch of short pieces of scotch tape.

Distribute the loops out on the porch and pour yourself a beer.

Have you ever seen a cat with tape on the bottom
of its paws?

Hours of entertainment and more satifisfying than
painting.

My friends did a kind of hunter green with black stipilings with a high gloss sealer which made the floor look like a marble.

I also have a front porch to paint,

You do? Where is it?

Muchas gracias, porch favor.

Grey house, blue trim, brown tile table....Hmmmmm
Save the $$$$ and get a table that matches the house.
Paint the porche to compliment the house trim....say a light blue/gray. (play on words intended)
My reality and yours are quite different.

Nice, I vote that too, or some other ceramic that will resist weather, get adhesive info from your local tile place for your climate.

I am partial....I just set a Marble floor last week in my new addy.hehehe
