Need advice - snagged my piercing

Recommended Posts

Can't believe this has just happened.. I've had my piercings for *years* without any problems whatsoever.. Then this morning I caught my nipple barbell on the shower door. The ball came flying off and blood started dripping down :S I nearly fainted - it hurt more than getting it pierced in the first place.

It's quite torn on one side :( I've taken out my piercing & will go braless for today, but was wondering what I should do? Keep the jewelry in whilst it heals? Leave it be & hope it doesn't close?

Please don't just make up advice - I'm dead serious here.. B|

Heading off to work.. will check for answers this evening.

PS: OOOWWWWWWCH! :(:(:(

Leaving it in increases the risk for infection, allow your body to heal from the injury and then if necessary have it repierced. although it is just a small opening, reinserting anything in there :can: introduce bacteria into your bloodstream.... worse case situation, yes. but still possible...

Well, the good news is you'll go bras-less!

As a certified internet mamologist, I would recommend you slam your left index finger HARD with a hammer as quickly as possible. It will immediately alleviate the mammary pain you are currently experiencing.
If, however, the discomfort persists, I would then advise you to talk to a plumber.

I hope the above helped.:)

as stated before - let it heal w/out the piercing in and clean clean clean it :)

you can always get it repierced IF it closes up. i've been thinking about repiercing my navel - it's been out for almost 2 years - it's somewhat closed up but it's still there.

I would leave the jewelry in. Clean the area and sterilize the jewelry. As long as everything has been sterilized there is no increased risk of infection. It is no different from the origonal piercing.
While stretching my ears I have been torn and bloodied in all kinds of horrible ways. Just keep it clean and treat it like a fresh piercing.

Also, try to avoid getting tittie twistered for a while:D

you know I got my nipple caught in a closet door once and that hurt like a mother. I dont have nipple piercings but can imaging the discomfort you are in. Keep an eye on it and get it looked at to be on the safe side..

On this day I was worn out from work and thought I would get in my pj's. So I took off the bra and was drinking a beer do some odds and ends in the house. Went to put clothes up in the kids closet and the sliding closet door came off the track and hit me in the head. Being a hair taller than Gia (giggles) i tried to lift the door to put it back on the track and it pinched me.I let go of the door and almost feel to the floor cause i was well still stuck in its mean death pinch from hell. I now do not go bra-less well doing work at home... :D

I would hav to say leave it in. I have had my nipples periced twice and several other body pericings as well. Leave the jewelry in and do your daily cleaning ritual (nonscented anti-bacterial soap) at least twice a day.

Everyone is saying leaving it in will cause infection. This is not true. If it's clean jewelry then it's not going to get infected. What can cause infection is contamination of the open wound that is why you need to clean it. I think it is MORE important to keep it in to prevent infection. Think of it this way. Your nipples have pussed before. I know they have, you know they have, anyone with nipple peircings has experienced this at one point or another. Anyway, they are certainly going to do it now. Do you want that happening inside your nipple after it closes up so you cant get it out? Keeping the pericing in there assures that you aren't sealing up any possible infection or fluids inside your body.

Don't take my word for it, call a peircer.

You are NEVER supposed to use antibiotic ointment or cream on piercings....

I wish we were in a room so I could ask the following question:

"Of all the people offering advice how many people have their nipples pierced?"

As I said before, ask your piercer...

I'm going to go to the instructors forum and start telling everyone how to put out S/L students even though i have never done it before.

(Edit for poor spelling)

OMG - OUCH!!! :S

Thanks for the posts.. I just got home and took the band-aid off.. Still bleeding :(

See, I would have been of the opinion that I should leave the jewelry in and clean it just like a fresh piercing.. What I'm unsure about though is how it will heal.. It's torn on one side as it got pulled out B|[:/]

I've actually tried to take a picture so you would see what I mean, but my camera is crap & can't focus so well. D'oh.

It will heal a little funny looking that's for sure. There is an on again/off again otter pilot in Eloy who used to be called gimpple for exactly this reason.:D Only i think his got ripped completely out.:o

Don't think this would be the case with me!!! But I can imagine a bit of migrating.. Think I will opt for leaving it out for a couple of days and see from there.

Wish I hadn't been in such a hurry this morning >:(

That is not a piercing, that is a wound.

It may be a jagged cut which is superficial, or it may be worse requiring medical attention.

None of us can tell from here now can we?

But hey maybe you are a physician.

how deep is the laceration, do you know?

If it was very deep at all she would be at the hospital.

OMG!!!:ph34r::ph34r: I haven't torn off my nipple!!! It's a tear on one side that is about 3mm long.. Significant, but hardly life-threatening!!!

My main concern isn't whether is will heal or get infected.. I have 17 piercings, so am familiar with how to care for them..

What I'm not so sure about is migration (when a piercing moves from where it was originally put & heals "crooked"). It's unlikely to be rejected, as the "wound" isn't so deep, it's an old piercing, etc.. But I'm just not sure how it will heal if I put it straight in again (which I think would normally be a better idea if well looked after).

I know lots of piercers are probably unreliable drug-dealers who like playing with needles.. But on the same token, I doubt a doctor would know the first thing about piercing migration.. :S D'oh..

If anyone knows a reliable source or has had this happen, please let me know what was the outcome..

Thanks for all the responses.

Honestly... these questions and the half joking comments on the pictures are actually VERY VALID points.

When the piercing was ripped from the tissue, how much damage was done?

If this is a true laceration, depending on the type of scar you want, you should get it looked at by a professional. It might need to have the wound closed... maybe even surgically.

Without seeing it and without a full history, any advise you get over the internet is foolish at best, dangerous at worst.

Especially if it continues bleeding.... GO TO THE DOCTOR!!
