happythoughts 0 #7 September 23, 2009 Locally, we have a restaurant called the "Capital Grille". If it was the place of business for a govt, it would be "capitol". "Capital" could mean an upper case letter, so "G". "Let's go eat at the big G." Or it could mean a capital offense, something punishable by death. So, the food must be pretty bad. Or, I'm over-thinking this.

According to my dictionary: Capitol (usu. the Capitol) 1 the seat of the U.S. Congress in Washington, DC. • (capitol) a building housing a legislative assembly: 50,000 people marched on New Jersey's state capitol. 2 The temple of Jupiter on the Captoline Hill in ancient Rome. capital noun 1 (also capital city or town) the most city or town of a nation, usually its seat of government and administrative center. • [with adj.] a place associated more than any other with a specified activity or product : Milan is the fashion capital of the world. muff528 3 #13 September 24, 2009 Quote I'm sure they never have typos in the UK. ....... Sure they do! All their keyboards have "overactive U syndrome" inserting that letter where it doesn't belong. They never bother fixing it either. Just think of all the ink wasted while printing that unnecessary "u" in their documents. The extra "i" in aluminum is also an ink waster. They also commonly misspell "defense". What really drives me up a wall is the term "went missing". When did THAT begin being used in the US? Don't they know that the proper term is "turned up missing" ?!?
