Do you wash your dishes before putting them in the dishwasher?

If you wash them first, why put them in the dishwasher?

Damn, you are as bad as my ex. If you only run your dishwasher once a week think about the stains that will be left and the smell everytime you open the dishwasher. It only takes a few minutes to rinse off the plates then put them in the dishwasher.

I used to not rinse the dishes off before putting them in the dishwasher. Then my ex go me into the habit, so now I do rinse them off. Makes little sense though- it seems as if I am washing them before I am going to wash them. Kinda like those people who clean before the maid comes to clean the house. :S

Then run it once every two days. You'll still use less water and soap.

Better yet ... don't use a dishwaher - what's the point of having one?

Less time wasted, less water, soap and energy used, cleaner dishes. You can sanitize pieces of homebrew equipment in dishwashers because 1) they get very clean and 2) they get very hot.

But if you're going to wash them anyway, I agree; no need to wash them twice.

I do a quick rinse of the dirtier ones under the faucet before putting them in, mainly just so that there's no residue left on them at the end of the cycle.

Otherwise, I don't get it. My MIL washes everything in a sinkful of hot, sudsy water, I guess because that's how her mom always did it, and then puts them into the dishwasher. WTF.

Believe it or not, a dishwasher uses less water than hand washing.

Yes, I rinse the dishes and wipe them with a rag before loading.

How does the water usage pan out when you Rinse every item before dishwasher washing?
So you either have a sink partly filled with water, or you run water over EVERY individual item?

i use a the special "boxer pre wash cycle." it works great, takes care of all the big chunks and such. but, gotta be careful, it is such a powerful cycle, it can end up damaging some items...see pics, last pic is damage pic. :P

Exactly what I do. Dishwashers will not clean dried stuck-on food off dishware. I scrub off any residue and consider the dishwasher a disinfecting tool.
