  1. Not an apple fanboi by far either. My first computer was an Apple IIe though, but since then, I've been on PC. Also, I never really understood people's undying praise for the iPhone till I got one (wife had one, played with it, liked it). It's really a great "more-than-a-phone". 2. Was looking for some input on a jump of mine that happened a few jumps ago (around 60). Went through a normal dive, everything good, and went to pull @ around 4k where I usually do. First pull my hand slipped off the hackey and I thought nothing of it. My second pull was more forceful, and that was when I realized the PC wasn't coming out. So, at this point I'm thinking, "Oh God, here comes a reserve ride" but I instead decided to try one more time and I reached back and really pulled for all I was worth. Got a little unstable doing so, but I got it out and had to kick a few line twists out. Landed fine. After replaying the jump over and over trying to come up with what happened and how long, I was sitting under a good canopy a little over 2k, as opposed to my usual 3k, so I lost 1k feet and what, 5-6 seconds in that? (Felt like forever). So my Q is, "Is the try 2 times to clear after your first attempt to pull, or including your first attempt?" And I suppose a follow up would be, did I screw the pooch by not going to the reserve after try #2 (not knowing that #3 would clear it, obviously) or given I started @ 4k, trying the 3rd was okay provided if it hadn't cleared, I'd go to the reserve? 3. Having both within arm's length right now, and having had both kinds of phones for quite a while (and a BB at the same time as earlier iPhones) I'd surely like to understand more about this statement. Have had multiple carriers, too. Now all phones are through Verizon. In other words, my opinion is based entirely on personal experience as someone who travels a lot, using two different phones in various regions, both same and different carriers. Sure. Here's the first google hit I had. Lists the specs side by side. http://www.macobserver.com/tmo/article/iphone_4s_vs._motorola_droid_bionic_spec_comparison_chart/ Few quick points to note: iPhone costs less iPhone has better screen resolution (960 x 640 vs 960 x 540) Droid has a bigger screen (3.5 vs 4.3 in) iPhone has 16-64G of storage, Droid has 16 Droid has a MicroSD slot and USB port iPhone has a gyroscope iPhone is smaller (4.5 x 2.31 x 0.37 vs 5.02 x 2.63 x 0.43) iPhone weighs less (4.9 vs 5.6) Droid can talk longer (480 (3G) vs 650) PC world did some extended tests too, like quality, speed, etc. which you can read about here: http://www.pcworld.com/article/199844/iphone_4_vs_droid_x_a_headtohead_comparison.html Summary: "The iPhone 4 won the majority of our battles--but barely. Both phones are incredibly fast, have superb displays, and come loaded with multimedia features. Some of our tests, such as OS and media playback, come down to personal preference. On the other hand, our display, still camera, and camcorder tests clearly prove that the iPhone 4 is stronger in those categories. And the iPhone 4 won our data-speed and voice-quality tests, though they were confined to San Francisco; the results could be different in other parts of the country." http://www.guardian.co.uk/technology/2011/nov/09/adobe-flash-mobile-dead And that is just one of many articles talking about Adobe killing flash mobile "Mobile Flash is being killed off. The plugin that launched a thousand online forum arguments and a technology standoff between Apple and the format's creator, Adobe, will no longer be developed for mobile browsers, the company said in a note that will accompany a financial briefing to analysts." --------------------- I don't want to sound like I think the Droid is bad, far from it. Our team MD has a droid and she loves it. Just saying, from a purely tech comparison, iPhone still edges out the Droid. But, then again, that margin probably only appeals to a small demographic. User preference certainly can tip the scale one way or the other, and I do think anyone would be happy with either. Hope that helps :) You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  4. iPhone. There are lots of articles comparing iPhones to Droids, and w/o getting into the tech specs, the iPhone beats the Droid in just about everything. Also, Flash is no longer going to be updated / supported for mobile devices, so Droid's one ace in the hole, "iPhones can't run flash" is going away. 7. Technically I've got an automatic right now. But I've always preferred stick, and whenever I get around to finding a new Z (240 or 260), it'll be a stick. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  8. No way. Dems fought tooth and nail against everything from slavery to letting women vote to civil rights for minorities. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  9. The media was AWOL on Jesse Jackson. The media has been silent on plenty of Obama stories as well. No reason to think they wouldn't be silent on a scandal like Cain is facing (but with Obama). Though I will agree, Fox would probably go after any Obama scandal they could substantiate. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

  12. That's really, really painful to watch. I think I'll bookmark it if I ever get the inkling to ever do anything passed normal progression. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  13. Packed a container lock after opening and quickly closing my flaps to look inside my container (wasn't thinking) and had to go to my reserve. Opened soft, on heading, and landing was smooth as silk. Can't give something that did all of that (not too mention kept me alive) anything but 5 stars.

  20. I never went prior to the new management, but a buddy of mine from highschool who lives in Orlando and I decided to meet up at LW and give it a go to see how it was run now. Loads were fast to get on, staff very friendly, and people were there organizing. Plenty of outs if needed, and the view in the sky was great. Other than maybe wanting to buy food on the premises, not sure what else one would really want.
  21. You asked, where does the bible say "god exists independently of time". The Hebrew in those passages is olam, which is exactly that. Here are the top to google results for "Olam Hebrew". http://www.biblepages.web.surftown.se/eg09b.htm "Again, most bible-versions fail to translate the Hebrew word olam in a correct way. Because of that, they make it seem that many instructions that were given to ancient Israel, would be "for ever" (or "everlasting" or "eternal", or whatever) and would thus apply even today. That is not true, of course. Below, it will be demonstrated from the text of the Old Testament, that the ancient Hebrew word in question, olam (owlam), did not mean "for ever" but simply "a long time", either past or future." I have a host of lexicons sitting on my shelf as well as on my computer and laptop. I've had to stare at more Hebrew than I'd have ever liked for a dozen lifetimes :). Olam is absolutely eternal when it is modifying the noun God. It can mean a host of things, just like in English words can have different meanings on context. Olam can, depending on context, range from an age, to an undetermined time, to completely perpetual / eternal / ageless (as it has always been applied to God. Again, this theological belief has been long standing, has been written on and considered "always true" for thousands of years. If you want to argue that rabbis and Church fathers viewed the "eternal God" as one that was not timeless, you are arguing against history. 22. The interesting aspect of the amputee's are that it is indisputable and not subject to error. Many times in history (even with modern technology) people have been mistakenly declared dead. What is the difference between the apparently dead person and revives with no prayer and the person who does? Prayers go out all the time that aren't known. Anywho, when talking about a specific dead person coming back, like Jesus, that's a whole other thread. Short of it is, on my end, given the accounts of his death, its silly to think a) he survived and b) the roman that skewered him with a spear (who would have been executed himself had he let down a live prisoner from execution) made a mistake. That guy had every incentive to make sure Jesus was dead as a door nail, and being a soldier, was pretty good and both knowing death and making people dead :) edit: but anyway, how many people really would convert if presented with a regenerated limb account? I bet none. The hardened would look for natural causes, maybe touting some unlocked gene theory, or simple case of mistaken identity, or plain fraud. 24. You asked, where does the bible say "god exists independently of time". The Hebrew in those passages is olam, which is exactly that. More over both Jewish and Christian theology has believed God to be that since the beginning. St. Augustine wrote about it as well (and others). God does not have a creation myth whatsoever, unlike other beliefs of the time(s). So on and so forth. If you really want to nail your point, you're going to need more than "nuh uh!" Citing some portion of text, teaching, Church father, Jewish rabbi, etc. that said, "God is in time / has a beginning" would be a start. Even the tops of the secular science world believes time had a beginning. The infinite time loop creates a huge problem just in and of itself, that being, how long did it take for us to get where we are? Infinite. If we're going to really get nit picky, we really don't "know" anything other than our experience exists. We can't really be 100% sure of anything past that. So yes, every honest theist out there will say, "I don't know with 100% certainty about God" but looking around, we find it much more likely than not. But back to the original, your claim of, "You don't know what else exists out of time, you don't know what kind of infinite cycle the universe may be involved in," just reinforces where the argument came from. The argument is, things with a beginning need a creator (something being created can't be created from truly nothing). Now, some believe that creator is God/gods. Others suggest, like you, that maybe its something else that exists outside of time. At the very best for the atheist, these two theories are on equal ground. So it seems a little silly to slam the theist for a belief (simply that some higher power is ultimately responsible for this universe) that the atheist can't readily trump.
