  1. Fox news would never try and slant a story for political gain, they are fair and balanced and have a reputation for their high degree of professional journalism. Of course with the departure of Glen beck, their accuracy may be down just a bit. True. They aren't nearly as good as say the NYT, or MSNBC You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  2. Feds announced interest rates would stay the same for 2 more years which is what triggered it. Whether or not those gains will stay, we'll see "soon". I wouldn't be surprised at all if this afternoon's jump is quickly sold off tomorrow morning. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  3. Asia down >5% at the open. The sell off will continue.... as I said months ago... the market could not hold its gains. This is a 'correction' that had to happen for awhile, and this too shall pass. Stocks are going on sale and I plan to participate in the panic fully by being a buyer. I agree 100%! I'm a buyer too! The correction did need to happen... Let's see what the FED says today. Edited to add ... futures look good today. Nice bounce today. Might be time to move a portion back into mutuals at the close and see if its a dead cat tomorrow. -83 right now. Was -100. Bounce was short lived. It'll probably level out today, and I'd wager a drop tomorrow as well. There's no real reason it to go up and stay up atm. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

There were steals to be had all through '09. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  5. How exactly did the Tea Party cause massive govt expansion and debt? You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  6. Market has been anticipating this for a bit now. Read a few good commentaries that the impact might not be as bad as others are forecasting due to this. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  7. A) Its very arguable that the current administration did not help stave off a depression, and if anything, worsened the chance of one -- not even counting that the economy could correct itself faster than the govt could. B) Ford has done far, far better both in terms as a company and as an investment, and never took the bailout. C) Those couple millions of jobs "saved or created" are added up by very dubious math and not at all accurate. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

  10. Those males in their 30s were the ones that started it when they were teens. And they look even more stupid now than they did then... Agree, but I was just saying that the guys in their 30s aren't copying. They started it. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

  12. I assume you're talking about Rwanda there -- no other genocide of such wretched efficiency happened in modern times. That genocide had nothing to do with Israel, and if anyone is to blame for that, it is 1. the very useless and impotent UN and 2. America, whose State department stood by and played semantics with the word "genocide" as hundreds of thousands died. The fact that humans do nothing as others go to the slaughter, so long as it's not "their" group of people being killed (WWI Anatolia; WWII Europe; 1990s Rwanda, as brought up in this thread), is why Israel's existence shouldn't even be a subject of discussion. Israel has every reason to act zealously in its own self-defense when attacked time and time again as the world continues to watch. Once again -- a bit of empathy. The premise of this whole thread "right to exist" (in quotes, mind you) is a farce. If you crunch the numbers, Mao actually killed more people per day (and total as well) You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  13. No one knows. We do have a pretty good estimate of how many were exterminated. Good estimates for an invasion were over a million casualties (Allied side). You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  14. with how many fatalities? Can I shoot at your house then as long as I don't kill you? Or maybe just one here or there? You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  15. No it isn't. Just about every religion has had its martyrs, yet according to you all religions but yours involve made-up stories. When you learn the difference in the thread, we can continue. You're still stuck on a strawman. Translation - you were wrong but can't admit it. Your free to believe what you want. I won't lose sleep over it. 16. Why is it absurd? Because, again, people don't die for something they know is a lie when they have nothing to gain. And they certainly don't do it in countless numbers. The original assertion was that the original Christians knowingly made up a lie. Why would they do this? To gain power? No. Money? No. Prestige? No. They lost all of that as well as their lives. Did they make it up because they thought they'd go to heaven and be rewarded by Jesus? No, of course not. Because that is completely inconsistent with, "They knowingly made up a lie." Why would they expect to be rewarded in heaven, or be on the right side of Armageddon, if they KNOW they just made it up. It would be like expecting Tolkein to get all excited that Frodo destroyed the ring, and really believe it, when he KNOWS he's the author of the books and he stemmed the entire story from his imagination (or even better, knows he's actively lying to others about it's reality). You can argue first gen Christians may be mistaken in what they believe, but to say they knowingly made up Christ (among other things), goes against everything we know about human behavior as they had nothing to gain and everything to lose (and did). 18. that's why your inefficient private system needs upgrading. at the moment you spend more than any other country yet get only mediocre healthcare results for the vast sums you spend... So you would say then that people across the world flock to the US for various treatments and procedures because we have high prices and mediocre service? Really? You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  19. it's cheaper than the private (and inefficient) system you have at the moment - so money saved for the deficit
  20. Actually, it's not. The finer details you could argue over, but there's no doubt whatsoever that they truly believed a guy named Christ was crucified and rose from the dead. If you are going bring such an insurmountable burden of proof for that, you might as well throw out everything we know about history. The fact remains, it's absurd to think that first generation Christians knowingly made up such a story and stuck with it to their death. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

  22. Here's the difference, and it's a big one. Muslisms today do not fully know, assuming they are wrong, that they are indeed lying / mistaken. They are removed from the events they are preaching by over a thousand years. In fact, it wouldn't matter even if they were removed just by a day. First generation Christians in question, would knowingly be lying and dying about something they claimed to see with their very own eyes (the miracles and Resurrection of Christ). They would be going around preaching, writing, and saying, "I saw this man die and rise from the dead," all the while KNOWING they did not ever, ever, EVER see such a thing. Moreover, to the original aim at this, they would be being tortured and put to death knowing they made it up (because, according to some, they added miracles & magic to compete with the OT). So, in short, religious people today could easily be mistaken but strong in their convictions to the point of death because they don't actually know they're wrong. First generation Christians were a totally different sort. You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.

  24. How many Christians do I think were killed in the first century? You stop breathing for a few minutes and everyone jumps to conclusions.
  25. Once a suppressed population has had enough and they have nothing left to lose, yes, they are willing to die. Just as the protestors in Egypt, Tienanmen Square et al. have been willing to die in order to change the status quo. Change never comes without resistance. They had nothing to lose? They had EVERYTHING to lose. Not only would these early Christians (who were Jews) have everything to lose from the Romans, but from their own people as well. Sorry, but saying these first generation Christians knowingly made up lies so they could be ostracized and killed by their own friends and family (who were likewise super oppressed, but somehow werent as desperate), goes against everything we know about human behavior. And to get back to the original point you made, saying they were desperate and looking to get away from persecution is moving the goal posts. Your claim was that they were making a power grab, which clearly, they were not. They gave up all hopes of power, riches, and life to follow a criminal that was disgraced and sentenced to death.
