  1. Thank god my old Reflex doesn't have a name on it... 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.
  2. Not necessarily. For someone who wishes to move into the instructional side of skydiving I think a time requirement should be required. In NZ that time requirement is 2 years. However if someone wishes to jump a wingsuit for example,I think jump experience alone is enough. 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.
  3. Aren't 500 jumps required before you can jump with a tandem? 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.
  4. Found a 30 year old Free Fall Kiwi (NZ skydiving magazine) and it has some interesting comments in the incident reports; "Failed to try pullout on the ground and could not fully extract pin because her arms were too short" "Streamer on Delta ll Parawing (not an uncommon occurence). Remarks: Carry 2 reserves until you find a packing method that is reliable - or burn the canopy" "Had a hard pull on first freefall but the ripcord was easily extracted on the ground. Remarks: Be vigilant when training women, as they have a tendancy to be either weak, or to react less positively when under stress". Interesting how much the gear and attitudes have changed in 30 years... 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.

  11. Thanks for the advice Bill. Did as you suggested and the openings are way better. 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.
  12. Thanks for the info. Will have a look today. 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.
  13. I'm jumping 2 sets of Vector style tandem gear, both with the same kinds of main. However both have completely different characteristics. One has a great trapdoor and a slow snivelly opening. The other has a snatch off the back that often feels like a kick in the base of the spine. What are the differences in the drogues that would cause this? Thanks in advance. 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.
  14. I don't know the full details, only what I read. I replied voicing my concerns and managed to upset a few people - hence the new thread as it wasn't a thread hijack attempt. I have taken older people and one of the most memorable was an 87 gentleman called Charlie. At that time I had about a 1000 tandems and waited for 2 months for the most favorable conditions. It went well. I've taken amputees and a guy that was essentially paralysed down one side. I've also refused to take to take numerous people for various reasons. Tandems are - in my opinion - are about risk assessment and judgement. Some people and organisations need to take this on board. 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.
  15. In the 'most memorable tandem student' thread there is a story about a guy who took an 81 year old man up as his first passenger/student/punter (for those of you who wish to argue semantics) Quite frankly I think this is madness - and said so - for the following reasons: - Older folks tend to have weaker bones. If a young person breaks a bone it is generally an 'inconveinence' but for an older person this can lead to them being bedridden and ultimately fatal. - Older folk tend to be less flexible and therefore more prone to injury. - In my experience, this lack of flexibilty can lead to more 'interesting' exits than normal. - The fact that he was allowed to do this jump indicates to me the organization that was supervising this TIs development needs to re-evalute their systems before a serious incident occurs I've got more than 2000 tandem jumps. I have a Masters degree in OSH and when I'm not 'chucking drogues and shoving cameras in punters faces' I work in hazard identification and accident investigation. If I've offended anyone, so beit. I make no apologies. If through this I can stop 1 bad decision being made or influence an organization to look at itself and change its ways for the better - cool. These of course are just my opinions - feel free to flame away... 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.
  16. Maybe I've been around to long and seen to many people get hurt. imbeave2 shared a story which in my opinion showed poor judgement. The fact that the organisation he jumps for allowed him to do it is beyond belief - assuming that in the US there is a probationary period where a new TI must be supervised. I fail to see where I have shown any hypocrisy. If by hurting someones feelings I have made someone out there think about the future consequences of their actions, I'll lose no sleep. 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.
  17. If that is the case I think your sense of judgement is competely flawed and you have no business taking tandems. Older people are more prone to injuries such as fractures that at that age can ultimately be fatal. Suggest you take a step back and look at yourself. Don't let your ego get in the way of your abilities!! 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.

  20. 6500 5000 3000 Thats because I mainly do tandems and 3000 is big decision time. When I'm on my sports gear the 3rd alarm certainly gets my attention. 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.
  21. There was a canopy called a 'Viking' that also had 2 square holes towards the tail on cells 2 and 6 from memory 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.
  22. Cound'nt see the vid but I'm f**ken happy that I don't have to deal with the same liability bullshit that you do in the US. For everyone who you 'force' out the door 99% will thank you for it later. 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.

  24. A mate of mine is in the same boat. He's using a converted Atom tandem rig with the drogue replaced with a pilot chute. He's ordering a custom made rig for use after he gets his A license 2 wrongs don't make a right - but 3 lefts do.
