  1. can you scratch it with your fingernail?
  2. I don't think mica will smear. It is just extremely flaky
  3. Wednesday morning, July 25, at 8:12 Mountain time, Red Bull Stratos jumper Felix Baumgartner exited a stratospheric balloon from approximately 97,000 feet for a freefall of 3 minutes 55 seconds. He reached an unofficial speed of 536 mph before deploying his parachute at approximately 13,000 feet above sea level, 8,000 feet above the desert southwest of Roswell, New Mexico. USPA Director of Competition Jim Hayhurst and the National Aeronautic Association’s Brian Utley served as official observers. Pending analysis of GPS data, the Stratos team may potentially claim three new Fédération Aéronautique Internationale world records. Two are almost 50 years old, both held by Major Yevgeny N. Andreyev of the Soviet Union, who in 1962 jumped from a balloon gondola 83,529 feet above sea level, freefalling 80,380 feet before deploying his parachute. Baumgartner’s jump has potentially eclipsed both Andreyev’s records, as well as his own vertical speed record of 365 mph, which he achieved on the first Stratos jump in March. Unfortunately, the Stratos capsule sustained damage on landing, potentially delaying the third and final Stratos jump, planned for 120,000 feet to break Joe Kittinger’s historic mark of 102,800 feet, set in 1960. from USPA website
  4. Mine charged 115, but I'm sure it varies
  5. I have one that I bought off here for free flying. I did not custom order it so it was entirely too baggy for free fly but it makes a great slow belly suit for me. Great suit and it has held up pretty good especially only costing 150 bucks.
  6. they have it on there stock rigs on there website. There isn't in W11s on there now but this was mine when I bought it earlier this year W11 Canopies: main PD 150-170, reserve PR 160 or a W9 Canopies: main PD 150-170, reserve PR 143 if you wanted a smaller resverve
  7. I have a w11 right now with a pilot 168 and a pdr 160 in it. I think it would be very hard to get a 190 in there but I think I could safely go down to a 135 in it. (I'm assuming the 135 since I have not tried it) Also I know mirage only shows a 2 canopy size range in their rigs as well I have a m4- (mirage shows 170 optimal 150 soft) with a sabre 2 170 and a pdr 160 in it. I have put a 190 in my mirage and it was tight. So I guess the general rule of thumb is 2 sizes based on manufactures but 3 if you aren't a manufacture? I have always heard 3 sizes as well
  8. Just to edit- We will have a full time grand caravan starting July 7th at skydive Louisiana in gilliam !!
  9. 3 DZ's in Louisiana, Skydive Nawlins which is in slidell- really only do tandems there- East of Lake Charles- over 3 hours away The skydive experience- in vivian, la north of lake charles- around 3 hours- Saturdays only Skydive Louisiana- Gilliam, La north of lake charles- around 3 hours (Saturdays and Sundays) Or you could also go to Spaceland in Tx- West of lake charles- around 3 hours- I jump at skydive louisiana so I would recommend coming here to jump. I think you would have a good time- All the DZ's in louisiana have 182's - Skydive louisiana will have a turbine for the winter but you won't be here that long :) spaceland has turbines- feel free to pm me if you plan on coming to skydive louisiana!
  10. what about getting your riggers certification?
  11. nope I haven't jumped there since sometime around decemeber I think
  12. awesome man! I did my training there as well. Matt is an excellent instructor!!
  13. Yet some schools still do things that way and it works...mostly. But if they are a USPA DZ, the students have to wear an altimeter correct (and it can't be waived)? I remember on my 1st 10 second delay they told me to count to 10, and I could do it fine on the ground...when I let go of the plane, I could have sworn i counted to 10, but they said I probably didn't even make it to 5 seconds before I pulled. I guess I got scared!!!
  14. Why wouldn't you jump with altimeter?? Seems important to me at least. From my experiences as a student and watching other students go through the SL program most can't count. They have so much other stuff going through the head when you tell them to count to 5, they maybe count to 2 or you say 5 and they count to 10. You give them a hard deck and without an altimeter that would be extremely challenging to a student. Sure you go XX amount of feet per sec but do you think they would be calculating that? Just my opinion though
  15. well I mean he has stood up all his landings... :) Must count for something hehe
  16. where does it state supervision is limited to main parachutes only in 65.125? Am I missing something? Or does it go back to 65.111? ec. 65.125 Certificates: Privileges (a) A certificated senior parachute rigger may-- (1) Pack or maintain (except for major repair) any type of parachute for which he is rated; and (2) Supervise other persons in packing any type of parachute for which that person is rated in accordance with Sec. 105.43(a) or Sec. 105.45(b)(1) of this chapter. (b) A certificated master parachute rigger may-- (1) Pack, maintain, or alter any type of parachute for which he is rated; and (2) Supervise other persons in packing, maintaining, or altering any type of parachute for which the certificated parachute rigger is rated in accordance with Sec. 105.43(a) or Sec. 105.45(b)(1) of this chapter. (c) A certificated parachute rigger need not comply with Secs. 65.127 through 65.133 (relating to facilities, equipment, performance standards, records, recent experience, and seal) in packing, maintaining, or altering (if authorized) the main parachute of a dual parachute pack to be used for intentional jumping.
  17. that's what I thought too, but I guess you could say it breaks and it doesn't say for use? (Even though it doesn't say you can't either ) Sec. 65.111 Certificate required (a) No person may pack, maintain, or alter any personnel-carrying parachute intended for emergency use in connection with civil aircraft of the United States (including the reserve parachute of a dual parachute system to be used for intentional parachute jumping) unless that person holds an appropriate current certificate and type rating issued under this subpart and complies with Secs. 65.127 through 65.133.
  18. So if you plan on jumping, a FAA rigger must pack the reserve If you don't plan on jumping a rigger can supervise you packing it. If you packed under the supervision of a rigger and you jump it, it is illegal. Are these all correct?
  19. So according to that, you can pack your own reserve under supervision and it is legal?
  20. So let's say I pack my reserve under the supervision of a rigger...It is illegal to jump it since I packed it and not a FAA rigger?
  21. Can't you pack your own reserve under indirect supervision of a rigger? I.E rigger doesn't have to even be in the same room as you? Or is that false?
  22. I asked something similar to mirage, here is there response A 170 9 cell would be really tight in the M3. We generally do not recommend doing a 170/160 combo in anything lower than an M4. If it were a 170 7 cell or a hybrid, like a Pulse or something, I would say go for it. Ask your local rigger if they have any experience with this combination. Any older Sabre 170 might be ok in this but like I said we don’t recommend it. Hopefully this helps. Take care! hope that helps
  23. One of my buddies uses one and has no problems and it works great. I use the t3i and there is no real difference between them besides my screen rotates unlike the t2i.
  24. I believe you can ask chutingstar to mail USPS so its like 5.95...
