  1. Keep it moving people...there's nothing to see here folks...please step away. (any one have any duct tape?) arlo
  2. Not just no, but HELLLLLLLLLLLL no.
  3. because it's so late and I'm about to hit the sack, i just wanted to respond to this by saying that the "ball up/spin faster" thing works on ice, but what happened with the wingsuit (balling up) worked. to spare the details, it has to do with a change in directional energy...translation from horizontal to vertical blah blah....we're dealing with 3 planes now. I can totally see why you would think this, but in the sky, this person did exactly what was needed to get himself out of that flat spin. Typical: you do what you've gotta do to save your ass and that's what he did....and kudos to him for figuring that shit out. I think it's awesome that Kim posted that because sharing knowledge of events such as this can do nothing BUT help people. You can't rehearse every single scenario that can occur, but the more "answers" you have to "questions", the more chance (in my opinion) you have to successfully and correctly deal with the problem at hand. I think that's why you see so many pics of malfunctions going thru your FJC...and we all know that those aren't the only mals you'll ever encounter. :) let's use this example to share information with our brothers and sisters (and birdbuddies). no one wants to be caught in a situation whose remedy could've been easily obtainable just by sharing experiences and stuff... blues, arlo
  4. I'd suggesting getting Dr John's book "Mental Training for Skydiving and Life." Outstanding book that helps you with things like visualization, goals, etc. It's stuff that you can do (worksheet involved) without being in a plane. If you have a computer with ya, get the Airspeed Mindmaps that was released this year. Interactive stuff on the computer that should help. Get home, get your ass in the tunnel for a bit....as you said. :) go well in overseas.... arlo edit: oh yeah, that would be Dr. John DeRosalia. You can check Skydiving Magazine to get a copy or even email him at [email protected]. He's an awesome dude that everyone can learn from...
  5. Okay, I'll bite. :) Sports bras are comfortable...much more so than, say, a t-shirt bunched under your jumpsuit. That's why i wear them. I would guess that's why alot of women wear them. Should we wear something less comfortable for fear of looking "sexy?" I certainly do not wake up to go to the dz thinking "yeahhhh, I think i'll skip the Donna Karan outfit and look sexy at the dz today....so I'll wear a sports-bra." I think it's more an issue of some of the dudes learning how NOT to stare for minutes at a time. Most of the guys I know are pretty cool about it. A typical exchange with any of my male friends: male friend: "Arlo, your _______ sure looks hot today." Arlo: "(name), is that a banana in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" With that said, most of the women I know in skydiving are strong, independent women and can dish out as much as they can take. There is little room for thin-skin or whining. I see no problem with being one of the guys and flirting like one too. ;) But there are indeed those that dress up, full make-up, never break a sweat, with full intent upon being noticed. Sorry , but I go to the dz to skydive and usually end up looking as far from sexy as most could imagine. The character Pigpen actually comes to mind. :) It's all good fun until someone pokes an eye out.... blues, arlo p.s. my Paul, is that a big spoon you have or are you just happy to see me? ;) (spoon....stir...you get it :)
  6. "somewhere in Seattle, freestylists dirt-dive." "is that a freefly tube in your pocket or are you just happy to see me?" I still think PLFKing has the best with the hood ornament, though. :) arlo
  7. The dyslexic version of "i'm a little teapot..."
  8. AARGGHH!!! Andrea! Run to the hills!!!! Linda is Trouble with a capital "T" (right next to Lisa, that is). Just kidding. :) You'll enjoy meeting Linda and Lisa. Look up Lori Thomas too while you're there. Keep them ALL away from the tequila. have fun in Cali and for God's sake....take a bunch of fleece and other warm clothes!! I froze my ASS off there! blues, arlo
  9. I'll kick in as well... :) I will most confidently be voting for Richard to represent me in the Southeast region. I'm not sure how many of you guys know this (the Deland folks surely do), but Richard is one of the folks that actually DOES go out and skydive...every weekend. Richard also is familiar with the competition aspect of skydiving and was the judge for all the FSL meets AND was one of the judges at Nationals. To me, this qualifies him on the competition aspect/realm as well as the people skills portion of it. He has to interact with people all the time. Richard also helped raise money for JFTC without anyone asking him to. This, in my eyes, shows his character. Richard is good people and he really wants to make a difference. I know I used to just vote for a name I was familiar with because I was not around the folks running for these positions. So if you're in that situation and don't really know who to vote for, hell, call him up and talk to him. As far as having Ray post for him, let me just say this: the majority of the folks that have been in this sport for a while don't have as much time to play on the computer as others. It's not that he won't "waste his time" or anything like that on the forums. I just think he spends more time doing skydiving related stuff than accessing the net. That's not a bad thing. I think I'd prefer to have someone that is actually out there getting his hands dirty than someone that sits on the computer and doesn't see what's going on. I sure hope this helps. And sorry for the length of the post.... blues, arlo
  10. yeah, we do alot of knee-flying in the tunnel. It's pretty cool-ass. First person I saw do it in freefall was Pete Allum after doing a 2-way with him. I can remember seeing him start knee flying and that was all she wrote. Too, it's easy to do in the tunnel after doing 4-way...no suit change needed. It's slower flying than sitting, and you can still do cool stuff like behind the back and whatnot. blues, arlo
  11. Okay, i just found out that the $234 price is for the custom pantz and the stock pantz sizes will be $196 and will be available end of November. :) I guess (regarding stock sizing) it's like going out and buying a pair of jeans. :) arlo
  12. Hi Keely... i know you asked for one near perris, but if you would like an "out-of-town" option, Dr Joel Shugar has performed most of the Lasik operations on the folks I know in Deland. He's a skydiver, but an outstanding eye doc. List of patients that I know of: Gary Beyer of Airspeed Kim Griffin of Birdman Lise Aune of the Norgies Lucie Samuel, massage therapist extraordinare David van Greuningen of PD Blue / Genesis ..and these are just the ones I can think of off the top of my head. I don't know his website right off hand, but check www.skyleague.com (the NSL website) and there is a link to Dr. Joel's website. He's a skydiver, too, and offers a skydiver discount. He's got thousands to his name and is world reknown for his work. ...no i have no vested interest in Dr. Joel or his eye center. I just know lots of people that swear by him. :) hope this helps, arlo oh yeah, his office is in Perry, FL, not Deland.
  13. okay Stacy...where was the check supposed to be mailed to again? you guys are too kind. Andi...you got it right. I'm the ass-end of our 4-way team. pretty cool view, too. :) blues, arlo
  14. Built in knee pads stink...literally. Anyway, I haven't really had a problem using the knee pads in there...especially with all the tunnel time we did this year. Ms and Gs tend to back you into the wall a bit. Maybe one of these days I'll grow up to be too cool to wear those things AND do some decent 4-way...but who knows. blues, arlo Tunnel Vision
  15. padding is for babies. ;) KIDDING!! Yes, the amount of pain is directly proportional to the intensity of the body to wall contact. ;) Seriously, USE THE KNEE PADS!! I've come out of there after 4-way and had my knees feel and look like hamburger meat because I was too stupid to remember to put the pads on...and I work there! There is no pride issue, use the pads. BUT, it's not gonna be as bad as you think. You're doing 2 hours?? How many people do you have in your group and are you getting coaching? If not, I would HIGHLY recommend it. Email me if you'd like regarding that stuff or call me there tomorrow (1-800-skyfun1). I'd hate for you to come all the way out from cali and not get full advantage of the tunnel. :) blues, arlo
  16. BAHHMMPPP!! An interview? I think not. Keep your ass in FL where it belongs...with the rest of the 4-way folks. blues, arlo
  17. I know that I'm not alone in these words, so I feel relatively confident in speaking for others... I would like to thank EVERYONE that supported Jump for the Cause. The JFTC MEN there throughout the week gave us nothing but their support and encouragement each and every day. You guys rocked the house. TOO, I loved the fact that you shamelessly AND selflessly showed your support by wearing those outstanding pink panties. I mean this. My skydiving brothers in Zhills did similar things this summer to help with JFTC, and you guys threw yourselves on that hand grenade and it was most appreciated....even in the cold. :) I absolutely commend all of you guys for making our lives easier last week. Any group that opts to hang out and support 130-something women all week long is either doing so selflessly or they need their heads examined. To everyone that donated time or money or both: thank you so much!!!! Because of all the efforts this year the City of Hope will have a new stereotactic biopsy room funded by (y)our efforts!!! This means that someone's life will be saved because of your efforts. Can I prove this? Nope...not yet. Do you know what a HUGE thing it is to save someone's life?? It's phenomenal. Just digest that thought. But the BIGGEST thanks go out to the people that have been affected by cancer...either directly or indirectly. Support is so vitally important during times like that. The inner strength it takes to deal with stuff like this is beyond what alot of people can even fathom. Thank you for showing the world what true strength is and continue to stay strong and hopefully we'll erradicate this fucking disease before we lose many more loved ones. thank you...
  18. Jon, check out the post for you guys. I absolutely didn't mean to take anything away from you guys. You were absolutely instrumental in everything that happened out there.... I'll post a new one.. :) arlo
  19. DOH!!!! Oh for the love of God, woman!! Don't be spreading shit such as that around! People will actually believe what you're saying and my reputation will be ruined!! ...but we DID all manage to have just a wee bit of fun, eh? WE SUCK LESS!! Glad you guys liked the book. If you only knew how I stressed over that thing hoping to do the stories justice... As far as the tunnel goes, damn skippy we'll cross paths when you're in town. And as usual, no trouble will be had because I disavow any knowledge of any trouble in any shape, fashion or form...yeah, that's it. You guys will see me sooner than you think. ;) BTW, e me some pics from Saturday night's debauchery. I have earned the right to see just what the hell you guys got into. eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee.....(one step beyond mouthing :) much love, arlo or or depending on one or two blowouts HAHAHA!!! God I slay me sometimes.
  20. quick and dirty: just got home a few hours ago and I am really stoked that my sisterhood has been extended. :) It has been an honor meeting and jumping with each and every one of you this past week. I feel very fortunate to have been part of such an incredible experience (minus the shi-at that you know about ;). BTW, for those that don't know...Lisa is Trouble with a capital "T" and don't let her convince you otherwise. :) You gals kick some serious ass...but you need some burping practice. ;) much love to all of you!!!!!!!!!!!! arlo
  21. Hey, I'm not Missy... you must have me mistaken for someone else. I have heard a fun way to get a party started is to chunk a bunch of fireworks into a brown paper bag:those spinny things that go "whizzzzzzzzz" about 20 feet in the air are very complimentary, lady fingers, bottle rockets, morters, etc...pretty much one or twenty of everything. Stuff the bag full. Then light the bag...usually next to someone intoxicated by the bonfire. You're actually doing everyone a service by encouraging people to dance...that's all. OH yeah, if you're gonna use starting fluid as a "bon-bomb", make sure to spray out approximately half the contents. A full can just whizzes out. To get an actual explosion that causes RVs to rock on their foundation (hearsay, of course), the can needs to have room for the evaporating liquid to expand, thereby increasing the pressure of the can until it makes a round one out a square one...it's called a BLEVE (boiling liquid expanding vapor explosion). acronym for the day: BLEVE An acronym for Boiling Liquid Expanding Vapor Explosion. Materials which BLEVE may cause storage containers and parts of containers to rocket great distances, in many directions. Any liquid may cause a BLEVE. - FEMA's definition. :) arlo
  22. thanks for all the pointers!! You guys should really come visit zhills in the winter. Boredom, a bonfire, starting fluid and av-gas are an interesting combination.... word for the day: concussion. arlo

    Freefly suits

you're gonna need alot of drag in the tunnel...more so than in the air. Just use the suits that they have at the tunnel and fit your suit to actual airtime. All of the staff folks at the tunnel wear the tunnel supplied suits. Some are ugly as all get out, but they work. arlo
