  1. I would also add that with Trump, the narrative has to be about him. I've always believed that as soon as the media starts talking about something other than him, he throws a spanner in the works and say something to provoke front page news. After all, it is free advertising for his re-election campaign. The gains the Dems had made in the house meant, he wasn't front page news any more. Thus whilst I think him dropping Sessions most definitely was always in the pipeline, doing it so soon after the midterms meant that suddenly throws the focus of the media was back on Trump and so moves the spotlight away from the newly elected members of congress who had battled to achieve the successes of Tuesday night.
  2. Probably a simple question to ask but I have a feeling I might be opening up a can of worms here as everybody will probably have their own favourites. I would love to get into RW camera, but have absolutely no idea where to begin or what kind of camera (DSLR and video) would be right for this? Does anybody have any suggestions or hints/tips? What would you say to look for in both still and movie? - image stabilisation? - lens focal length? - full frame/crop frame? - frame rate per second? - resolution - shutter release - blow/bite/tongue? I currently have a low end canon DSLR at home which I mainly use for landscape photography, but was wondering whether this would be suitable with the addition of a few new lenses or whether it would be better to buy something with better specs specifically to be jumping with. As for video, I wouldn't know where to begin with looking! Thanks in advance O
  3. Trump is being entertained by Queen Elizabeth at Buckingham Palace. They're sat there, surrounded by corgi's and dining on afternoon tea - cakes, vol au vents and the such like. Donald suddenly turns to the Queen and says 'Liz, you know...I've been thinking. I think I'm going to make America a Kingdom'. The Queen looks over, rolls her eyes and replies in an exasperated tone 'Donald, for America to be a Kingdom, you would need to be a King....which you're not. You're the President, so how can it be designated a Kingdom?' He pauses, turns back to the food. Then a few seconds later turns back and goes 'Liz, you know....I've decided, if I can't make it a Kingdom, I shall call it a Principality'. The Queen looks on in disbelief, then goes 'Donald, what don't you understand? For America to become a principality, you would need to be a Prince....which you're not. You're the President, so America can't become a principality!' Trump turns back to the food and then jumps up with excitement. 'Liz, you know.....' The Queen puts up a hand for him to be silent and matter of factly states 'Donald, I think it's better if we just continue to call America a country!'
  4. [Woman sees cute barista] Woman: Fancy a quickie? Barista: Madam, it's called an espresso.
  5. A friend of mine here in the UK has produced an LED indicator for the GoPro and is currently on the market. Don't know prices or whether he is planning on going commercial properly but they're pretty funky things.
  6. I put my hands up and admit it was down to me rushing to make a load, had become a bit blasé over the previous few months about my packing. I learned the hard way when it came back to bite me. I've decided that it'st just not worth putting my health/life at risk just to make a load. So 2013 is about relearning how to pack but this time doing it properly and safely. I'd rather it took me half hour to pack and miss the next load, than take 10 minutes, make the load and spend another year out of the sport or worse. New DZ this season is going to be Netheravon. Nervous but very excited to go somewhere new!
  7. Let's start with some background. Last May, a severely hard opening managed to fracture three vertebrae in my lumbar spine (I believe that was caused by the weightbelt I was wearing at the time), give myself whiplash and some soft tissue damage to the upper region of my spine. Sadly, I was forced to stop jumping and spend the rest of the year focussing on letting my body heal itself, getting myself fit and well again in the hope that I would be able to get back into the air this coming season. The doctor has finally given me the all clear to start jumping again, so the previous few months have really been focussed on getting my core fitness up through swimming, cycling, gym and yoga. I think I would be lying to myself if I said I wasn't nervous about returning to jumping, but I know deep down it's definitely what I want to do (I can't begin to express how difficult the last eight months have been without being able to jump!) So really my question is, what would people suggest I do to get myself back into the sport I love without overdoing it and hurting myself again? Oh and as a side note, due to my job I have moved DZs, so will be a new face in the crowd down here. Any suggestions much appreciated.

    Peeves ...

This! Especially if there is no dishwasher. Why would I want to have to remove your dirty dishes from the sink just so I can wash mine. Also people who don't dry up stuff, just leaving it on the draining board playing Jenga with it as more and more stuff gets piled on top. Why can't you remove your stuff when it's dry/dry it up BEFORE you put freshly washed stuff on top.
  9. Hand on heart my experience last year of buying a new safire2 from chutingstar last year was the best I have had so far from dealers in this sport. I was kept abreast of where in the manufacturing my canopy was, suggestions of what line set would suit me and my needs and just generally the service was impeccable. Will definitely be using again and can't sing their praises highly enough to friends.

    Pickup lines

Point down at a ladder in a lady's tights and say 'Is that a ladder in your tights or is it a stairway to heaven?' Pick a chunk of ice out of your drink, throw it on the floor in front of a girl and say 'now I've broken the ice, fancy coming back to mine?'
  11. Dropbox link for fastrax randoms, blocks and FAI FS 2012 rules. Please note block 1 and 13 are wrong. 1 should be - snowflake-inter-snowflake 13 should be - offset-inter-spinner Hopefully this work! https://www.dropbox.com/sh/vesraee057pzlqk/8PEWuAhUd8
  12. Heya, here is the fastrax randoms hope that helps http://db.tt/ZPhYULr9
  13. Unfortunately not, was competition jumping at the weekend and jump #3 did exactly what you seem to have done. Back to square 1 again which isn't good. should probably practise what I preach and book myself in for x-rays.
  14. I went to a chiropractor last year, 24 treatments was what they signed me up for....naively I accepted (private healthcare was paying)...now a year down the line my back is in a worse state than it was when I first went to them, along the way I kept telling them it was getting worse, their stock answer was 'keep coming back and we'll fix it'. I wish now I hadn't even started. I'd recommend x-ray, then see what the doc says. If he recommends physio take it. I wish that's what I had done.
  15. From your profile you're possibly a Peterlee jumper. If you are come and find me at the weekend and look at the Slocks I had put on to my Wings. They work like a dream.
  16. Despite some teething problems (which happen when creating new software from scratch), I can say that Ground Control is very logical to use. As a manifester using the system, it benefits from allowing registered regular jumpers to add themselves to the jump list via their smartphones/ipads etc rather than coming and hassling me, leaving me to concentrate on getting people on planes and dealing with questions from tandem students/families.
  17. I have recently downsized from a Spectre 170 (WL 0.90) to a Safire2 149 (WL 1.15). I was trying out some canopy exercises at the weekend and was surprised at how difficult it was for me to pull down on the front risers compared with the Spectre. Understandably changing canopy will result in a completely different handling beast. I guess naively I was expecting it to be easier because it was smaller. Is the reason it is more difficult something to do with the fact its now a 9 cell rather than a 7 cell? Or is it down to the different angle of attack each canopy has? Thanks Owen
  18. This without a doubt cheered up my day! :) Thank you for that, good luck with the jumping and keep these coming...they're hilarious!
  19. Best date: Second date with the girl I began seeing at the beginning of the year (though sucks its over now). Went out for pizza, shared a bottle of wine and conversation flowed. Then went for a wander along the beach hand in hand.
  20. I missed this, despite searching for business presentation! This is brilliant! Thanks everyone.
  21. I am meant to be giving a presentation at work this Wednesday to some colleagues of mine. The people I am talking to know that I skydive, but are pretty clueless about what it involves etc. Thus I thought what better than to do my talk on skydiving. The brief is as follows: Give a 5-7 minute presentation using appropriate visual aids. Visual aids - Rather than a 'death by powerpoint' talk, I thought why not actually bring in my rig, jumpsuit, helmet etc and use those as visual props. However this was where I hit a stumbling block. What to talk about? I obviously need to hold the audiences attention, but at the same time I cannot bore them with things they won't understand. The presentation needs to deliver a message and have a natural flow (aka introduction, body and conclusion). I'm just stuck as to what to actually talk about, so was wondering whether people had any ideas that I could use as a starting block and build on. Thanks in advance
  22. I like it when the door opens because the god awful smell that usually appeared a few minutes before magically vanishes....
  23. Weston On The Green needs your help! Weston (a club that's been around for more than 40 years) is currently shut and will remain so without help due to difficulties with the DZOs getting permission to renew their contract from the military. We need your help to give the RAF a show of hands (well signatures) to demonstrate just how many people are behind Ash and Steve! Once we've got loads of signatures I'll write to the appropriate organisations (RAF, local press etc...) demonstrating our support for Skydive Weston. It would be a real blow for British Skydiving if this club had to shut! So fellow skydivers, show your support to not just Ash and Steve but also British Skydiving in general by signing the online petition http://www.ipetitions.com/petition/skydiveweston/ Your support is much appreciated!
  24. First thing I'd do would be to go out and build a nice brand new wind tunnel in the south west! :D somebody worked out the interest (after tax) was about £2000 a day!
