Hey Steve, i don't know how it works in the US, but here in the UK everything you spend to carry out your job is tax deductible, training jumps, courses, equipment, consumables can all be offset against the tax on your earnings. Apart from the jumps you make before you decide to become a professional skydiver (which are for fun anyway), your expenditure should be covered. Of course it may be different in the US, and if you don't declare your earnings then you can't offset them against the tax you aren't paying. FWIW I am the CCI at a UK DZ, TI, Cameraman and I've definitely paid my dues ;-) It's nice to be important, but it's more important to be nice.

Hello again I originaly posted this with a different title but it got a grand total of 38 views and no repsonses, so I thought I would try a different tack. Help for Heroes is a British Charity set up to help wounded British Service personel. This is a fantastic charity and has helped a number of my friends. I will be competing in the London trathlon on 1st Aug 09 and will be raising money for H4H along the way. I appreciate that it is a British charity but would like to ask you to make a donation to help this great cause. http://www.justgiving.com/alexbusby I served in the Royal Artillery for 22 years, leaving the Army in July 06 having served in Northern Ireland, Bosnia, Kosovo, Iraq and finally as a parachute instructor in Germany (it wasn't all bad). I am a BPA Tandem Inst and Adv Inst and have taken more than my fair share of tandems students raising money for charity, and figured it was time I did something myself. It isn't going to be a walk in the park for me, as in Janurary I had larded out to 260lb and was pretty unfit. My goal is to complete the sprint even of 750m swim - 20km bike - 5km run in under 1:40. Started editing on a PC and tried a number of programmes, before settling on Sonic Vegas which I found very intuitive and discovered some great reference material and turorials by some guy from VASST (didn't know at the time he was a jumper) I continued to use Vegas and DVD Architect through it's various incarnations until I moved over to Mac last year. I now use FCP on a MacBook Pro and burn DVD's using IDVD. Depending on how many camera jumps I have in a day I will download the footage whilst I pack, and if I have time edit it to a standard template which reduces editing time. Generaly the DVD will be burnt at home and then posted out the following day with a CD of stills. All tandems filmed are uploaded to our website by the end of the day, and a link is sent by email to the student so that they can see their jump and forward the link to freinds and family. Gotta agree with you too guys. I had a student who started jumping a little over three years ago, who I took all the way through the SL system, through RW coaching to what we call FS1. She is now CSBI and will be completeing her BI's later in the year. She is the first student I have ever had progreass that far and I must admit I feel a little pride when I see her teaching. Seen it, jumped it G:RIPS was taken out of service in 2000 as far as I am aware. I jumped it at the Northampton Balloon festival dressed as Action Man for a spiot on local TV, very nice. I have been thinking about using a real time burner for while now, but I am not sure about the front end quality of the DVD. Most stand alone burners I have seen dont allow you to have a front page as you get on normal DVD's. FCE isnt overkill for tandems at all it allows better control of audio and titling IMHO, granted FCP is overkill, but I use it for other projects as well so tandems are realy just a 2ndry process.
