  1. What was the last service it's had (4 or 8 year) I would like a cypres 2 and the calculator puts it in my price range.
  2. Where are you? Who are you licensed through (assuming you are licensed) If it's USPA and you are licensed then yes, jumping once a month will keep you current. If your not comfortable with that then either beg or buy a coach for your first jump of the day to help shake out any cobwebs. I've taken 6 months off once due to some stupid stuff and came back just fine. I wasn't so relaxed on my first jump after 6 months, but then again it was early march in Minnesota and below zero F at altitude.
  3. The way I do it and the way I was taught was after you do all your safety and location checks I stow my slider before releasing brakes because once I have released my brakes I never let them go until i'm safely on the ground and stowing them back on my risers
  4. I usually wear gloves but didn't this last weekend because my roommates dog chewed them up. I had a really hard opening and my left hand whipped down and must have caught a seam just right and almost tore off my pinky finger nail but was mostly just skin. it's gloves for me from here on out
  5. Do you know what is causing your spin? Is it consistantly the same thing? If your with an instructor they may let you do a relaxation jump, i'd at least ask. Relax relax relax. When I was on AFF i had a case of the spins because my legs were uneven. We have a small table and a big morrir in the training room so I laid onthe table facing the mirror closed my eyes, arched, looked at the mirror fixed my legs as needed and repeated until the muscle memory built to where I consistantly had an even and symetrical arch every time I opened my eyes. Also tap your toes together in free fall. If it is your legs that will help evel them out. A good instructor should be able to identify what is causing your instability. Talk to all the instructors you've jumped with and get their .02

  7. My first two jumps were tandem, i was very motion sick after the first one it was from not being in control. flew the canopy around on the second and it was better. once I was flying myself I never experienced motion sickness again. Also in addition to staying hydrated it's important to eat a good meal too, don't stuff yourself but your body needs fuel for the adrenalin to burn.
  8. there was a video posted a month or two ago about a guy that gave up and waited for his cypress. If I were him I woulda sat down by myself later with a lot of booze and rethink ever jumping again. You never know how you might react until something eventually forces you too. On my 32nd jump i cutaway a break fire because i was spinning, building up speed, and had no idea i could just release the toggles and be ok. They say that if you practice your EP's enought to drill them into your head and do all of that you'll be just fine. But you are right there are people who will focus in so hard on something they think they can clear and there they go.
  9. Does it show actual altitude or is it elevation of the ground at that particular GPS coordinate?
  10. Would it be possible to have an X-shut camera plate for this? Or would this mount work with the contour plate? http://www.chutingstar.com/newgear_en/drift-hd170-mounting-bracket.html
  11. I was one of those! I am very happy with my Skimmer RW suit and am going to purchase a FF suit from her after Christmas. To the OP if your looking for and RW suit look at skimmer's stuff. Her suits have some seriously powerful booties.
  12. I'm low jump #'s too. You cannot be too shy to ask for a break off alt that fits your comfort level. If the people your jumping with don't like it then jump with someone else. Sometimes people forget that they are jumping with such a new skydiver and when you ask for an extra 500-1000 feet 99% of the time they will agree with the request. Have fun be safe
  13. Oh the student Olympics. Yup that's something Karl and Merriah have been doing at skydive twin cities for a few years now. I think it is an evolution of another similar event somewhere else but not sure. Events (off the top of my head so maybe not accurate) 1) Radio controlled people, what you described AFF instructors have student radios on them and are guided in by a student. 2) There is an event where instructors hop on some creepers and the students race to get the most points in a time limit. 3) Tracking dive contests 4) Keep it up canopy contest, keep your canopy kiting and pickup a prize ball before it touches down after landing. 5) Two headed packing, an instructor and a student work together with one arm each to pack rig I think there are more events now and it keeps growing every year. Here's a link to the PD blog with a story from the 2007 student Olympics. There is also a link to email team Flew-id which is Karl and Merriah http://www.thepdblog.com/pdblog/2007/11/student-olympic.html
  14. The pilot could very easily loose his/her license if the FAA figured out it was him, which wouldn't be too hard if a park ranger was in the right place at the right time, or if someone got hurt on the jump

  16. I bet they do 10 - 12 hours per day easy. Skyventure tunnels are built to run.
  17. that number could or could not be steep. It all depends on how much the military training contracts that come with the purchase. and how long they last. a little bit of research and a good sales pitch to a group of wealthy investors could make for a great deal.
  18. WOW! Yeah, I gotta cool it, and wait for the right gear Don't get me wrong, deals like this don't happen everyday. I was VERY lucky. Just make sure to keep in contact with the people who know people so when they hear of something they think of you right away. Good luck!
  19. I would wait for something that you want rather than something that will do the job. i was able to pickup a mirage g3 with sabre2 190 with an aad fresh from it's first 4 year service with two altimiters (digitude, and altimaster) AND a protrack. also included was a gear bag, and a Z1 helmet that was only jumped once all for $2800 and the guy also paid for the repack and i picked it up from my rigger. (the guy left the sport) keep in touch with your rigger or any known brokers on the DZ and you'll get hooked up
  20. Relax, breathe, relax, altitude awareness, relax, pull
  21. True, once people see beer in the fridge it brightens everyone's day!
  22. I believe that skydiving COULD be a great therapy TOOL. However, it is no replacement for professional help should you need it. I know the US Army recently started a program using activities such as skydiving to help reintegrate returning veterans into life back home. As their lives just went from 100 to 5 over the course of a plane ride home. I know from experience that in that application skydiving is a useful tool. No matter how much you enjoy skydiving or anything else for that matter, it should always take a backseat to your own physical and mental health. I hope this helps.
  23. oh ya know i was only thinking of the D bag when posting you are right it might be a little tight going into and closing the container
  24. I have a g3 m5 with a sabre 2 190. It'll take some practice and patience but you'd be able to get a 210 in there.
