  3. With all this talk about reserve WL and reserve line twist... I did a search but the posts I found were from 2002 and 2006. I think things have changed since then so I'm doing this again. What is your reserve wing loading? What reserve (and size) canopy is it? Mine: PD Optimum Reserve 143 loaded @ 1:1 For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  4. Well, I'm guessing that the first jump would be a nice landing after a big turn starting around 700', followed by the realization that he may not want to land it without a turn and may not have the time or altitude to plan and execute a turn after an actual cutaway. At least his first jump on the 99 wouldn't be after a low chop. I'd rather lose a sale than lose a customer. FWIW, 160lbs and a wing loading of about 1.5 on a reserve gave me a decent rate of 1500fpm with deployment brakes set, and ~2000 with with them released. 1500fpm is 17mph and 2000fpm is 22mph for everyone else. Was that on a zero wind day? What reserve and size was it? For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  5. Not an old timer, but only pack outside if no other option is available. 1) UV light diminishes the material over time. 2) You can pick up many unknown objects that could potentially damange/create holes within the canopy 3) Dirt and dust within the canopy and container.....nobody likes that For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  6. http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=4036344;page=unread#unread Currently awaiting DSE's opinion.....he will be able to comment once his information embargo/NDA is lifted For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  7. Also, ask around the packing mat if you can help out for a few weekends stretching out rigs, setting brakes, changing rubber bands, etc. You could probably make $50/day helping out, and if you explain that you're not looking to take anyones job, just looking for some temp work to get a few buck together for a canopy, you're more likely to be welcomed on the mat. Two weekends of that will double your budget, and teach you a lot about gear in general. You can get paid for stretching out rigs, setting brakes and changing rubber bands? I thought setting brakes and stretching out rigs was somewhat expected by the jumper if he/she is getting their rig packed? 8. Can be loaded @....but what would be ideal? Anyone have their input? Other canopies? For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp
  9. I only know of a couple canopy manufacturers that state the recommended wingloadings of specific canopies. Ex Icarus recommends the Crossfire 2 to be loaded from 1.4 - 2.1 If you know of a certain canopy that could be a "recommended" WL please state the canopy and WL range. Ex such as the Sabre2 perhaps 1.0 - 1.8? Some say the sweet spot is 1.4ish? All canopies are welcome and encouraged!

  12. Any idea if PD are going to change their TSO to their initial 300lb max weight(Prior to that FAA problem) for the Optimums 160 and larger? having never seen the PD label on the 160+ sized Optimums, I can only refer to their website : http://www.performancedesigns.com/products.asp?product=op Of course, my ASSumption is that if the TSO 23d was already granted, the manufacturer will most likely find it not financially viable to do the drop tests to re-certify. But these [email protected] folks are probably a much better place to get an answer :) Hmm, never thought about it from a financial standpoint, but their initial 300lb max weight was only on their website for a few months For info regarding lift ticket prices all around the world check out http://www.jumpticketprices.com/dropzones.asp

  14. I could of sworn of hearing/reading that there is a law somewhere stating that it is ILLEGAL to jump a reserve that you are above the max weight? Example: a male with an exit weight 230lb would not be able to legally jump an optimum reserve 106. Am I correct?
