  1. Our good friend Craig Styles A-36900 lost his battle with cancer on Sat. 12-17-11. I will always remember his smile and his love for life. Blue Skies forever my friend. Jason D-26672
  2. After weiging the pros and cons, he has decided to go with a T2i or T3i. Thanks everyone for your feedback. Perhaps this thread might help someone else who was looking at the T3 as an option. Thanks again and Blue Skies, Jason
  3. You don't have to take the SD card out, depending on your camera setup. The USB port is on the left side of the camera. Just plug in your USB cable, download the footage, and off you go. While this is true, the USB port isn't designed to take the kind of hammering that an "every jump" download will bring. All of the small camera manufacturers have had problems with the USB ports at some level. Also not an option if you are turning back to backs....just barely have time to swap cards and rigs. Blue Skies, Jason
  4. I was asking for a friend who is looking to update his camera helmet in order to help out the "regular guys" on an as needed basis (prolly 10-15 jumps per month, max). So we were wondering if the T3 would work since it's $200 less than the T2i. It could work for him even with the bottom feed card location (it would be a pain in the rear but it could work) but we are in discussions now about going with the T2i. Thanks and Blue Skies, Jason
  5. With my XTi, The quick release plate partially covers the battey door. I am not sure about the T3 but I suspect that would be the case as well. So you would have to disconnect the remote shutter release (to keep from stressing that connection/cable) remove the camera from the helmet, loosen the quick release plate (with a screwdriver or coin), spin the plate to get to the battery door, open the door and remove the card. Now ya gotta install the new card, close the batt door, spin the QR plate back into the proper position, tighten it down (here comes the screwdriver or coin again), snap the camera back on the helmet and reconnect the shutter release. Oh Yeah, you have to swap rigs and meet your next student. Now imagine its cold outside and you have gloves on! All while the plane is sitting in the loading area with the prop(s) spinning waiting on YOU! I just don't see this camera as a good choice for a full time photog. Maybe for the guy who jumps at a small dz or only helps out in the rotation with plenty of time on his hands. Blue Skies, Jason
  6. Thank you for the reply! I did not realize they had moved the memory card location. This camera would certainly NOT be an option for a full time camera person turning back to backs. Thanks again and Blue Skies, Jason
  7. Is anyone jumping the Canon T3? Looks like it might be a low cost solution for tandem pics. It doesn't have the auto sensor clean feature but I don't think that is a show stopper. http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/753766-REG/Canon_5757B002_EOS_Rebel_T3_Digital.html Thanks and Blue Skies, Jason
  8. Saw this on my Yahoo log in just now. I was wondering who it is and who took the pic.... Where its at, if they paid to use it, etc.. Nice pic BTW. Blue Skies, Jason
  9. It's a good episode (as usual) . Mickey was very interesting to listen to. He was on the 300 and 400 way belly records and the 69 and 108 way head down records. Prolly not too many folks that can say that! Oh yeah....SDR ROCKS!! Blue Skies, Jason
  10. Calls made. Thanks for letting us know about this. Blue Skies, Jason
  11. I am using a 120gb SSD for the operating system/programs and a 1tb 7200 rpm HHD for storage. The SSD makes my machine start-up SUPER FAST! 37 seconds from the time I push the power button till the Windows log-in screen!! Blue Skies, Jason
  12. It's good that you are asking questions. The only dumb question is the one that you didn't ask....that being said... You should print this thread and put it in your log book...when you stumble across it ten years and 1000 jumps later you will chuckle at yourself. Blue Skies, Jason
  13. You should listen to Chis, He knows what he's talking about. I built a machine a couple of months ago based on his recommendations and it is working FLAWLESSLY!! I highly recommend the "Tandem Videos Made Easy" DVD that he and DSE produced a few years back. It has helped me TREMENDOUSLY!! Thanks again for all your help Chris! Blue Skies, Jason
  14. Very good info Mike (as always!) Thank You! I used your o-ring trick on my Optic/Hypeye and it works perfectly but a buddy of mine has a different helmet and the button doesn't protrude far enough to get an o-ring on it so I will pass along the wire tie trick!! Thanks again and Blue Skies, Jason
  15. Thanks for the reply. I think your right. I haven't heard of anyone else hauling jumpers in one. Blue Skies, Jason
  16. Is yours the one they are flying at Skydive Tecumseh in Michigan or are there now two Kodiak's flying jumpers in the USA? Thanks and Blue Skies, Jason P.S. Congratulations on owning a beautiful aircraft!!
  17. I just talked to Paul (DZO) on the phone and they will be jumping this weekend. There is a generator providing power to the FBO and he has a small genny to run manifest. I will be bringing two 4000 watt gennys with me so there should be plenty of power to go around. The phone lines are down so bring cash just in case they are still down this weekend and they are unable to run credit cards. Blue Skies, Jason
  18. I can't get in touch with the DZO (left him a message) or the airport but the news reports said there are widespread power and phone outages. I am scheduled to work there on Sat. My family and I are planning to drive down tomorrow evening and stay in one of the cabins at the dz. I hope everyone is OK. I'll post an update when I can. Blue Skies, Jason
  19. Very cool, we would love to here how it performs. I have been watching this plane for a while. Must say I have a lot of respect for the company. Thanks and Blue Skies, Jason
  20. A beautiful tribute to a beautiful woman. I never met her but I did speak to her on the phone a few times when I sold her my Fusion 210 canopy. I hope and pray that time has begun to heal your pain... Blue Skies, Jason
  21. A fellow jumper sent me a GoPro vid shot by a guy with 15 Jumps!! Thats right folks, 15 jumps and he's wearing a GoPro!! I explained to the sender how dangerous that was and included a link to DSE's incident list here on DZ.com. He said he talked to the jumper and forwarded him the link. Maybe I should follow-up and see if the guy is still jumping it... Blue Skies, Jason
  22. Bummer.. I don't know what they did to mine but it seems to have fixed it. I do have Camera Armor on mine but I think I had it on from the beginning. Might be worth a shot to try it. Blue Skies, Jason
  23. Don't throw away your Canon yet. My XTi was doing the same thing. I never could determine the cause but I sent it back to the factory under warranty and havent had a problem with it since!! If yours is still in warranty you should try that first. Hope this helps. Blue Skies, Jason
