  1. Here's a picture of a sliding door (clear plastic reinforced with aluminium) in a 206. It runs in plastic rails. Hope this helps. Let me know if you need more pictures of this configuration.
  2. In Germany the situation is pretty much the same compared to Austria (see above). Part of getting your license are five coach jumps (FS or FF instruction). If those get you anywhere near to being safely able to fly with others is a completely different question though ;-) Once you get your license you're good to go. Apart from certain activities (jump with camera, demos etc.) you can jump legally with other people from jump 29 onwards.
  3. Might be a dumb question but what exactly is the difference between a line dump and a bag strip?
  4. My GF has a Nitro on which the upper side of the second to center cell is damaged. At first, a rigger said he would just put on a patch (approx. 40 EUR/ 60 USD). Later on he revised his first opinion and said the whole layer of the cell had to be replaced because the stitching would decrease fabric strength too much. This would have cost approx. 300 EUR / 450 USD. A second rigger saw the damage and had the same opinion. He said that it matters how far the damage is away from the next seam. The nearer the worse.
  5. It is noteworthy and as far as my experience goes it is not something usually happening at larger DZ. On the other hand, it (most probably) wasn't the last time you've met this kind of wanna-be-toggle-swooper. I once "met" a guy 100 feet in front of me coming in at a 90 degree angle in relation to me. All that happening in an altitude of roughly 150 feet. Not very nice either. We had a very entertaining conversation about landing directions, wind direction, pre-jump briefing etc.
  6. +1 but better do so via (private) email IMHO That's right. It takes two to tango
  7. Gary, actually you did exactly what you define as bad business manners. You had trouble with a customer (OK, he threatened you but apparently you're in business long enough) and then you brought it out to the public instead of dealing with him personally (as frustrating that may be). Hope this comes to a good end for both of you. Cheers Andree
  8. That's what I (and supposedly many others) like to know. I'm scanning German newspapers but the incident doesn't seem to be "big enough" for the media.
  9. I definitely wouldn't think so. All I know from our national lottery is that they explicitly advise you to not go public and think very hard about who to tell about your win. Although, all this his strictly second hand info.... of course
  10. Apparently the destroyed PAC was the jump ship of a German DZ (Gransee near Berlin). Best wishes to them and their insurance negotiators
  11. I did look up monster et al. Salaries pretty much vary between the amounts you stated, although you would have to be Albert Einstein to match all the requirements they are looking for Maybe I posed the question in a wrong way. What would be the estimated average cost of living (including a fair amount of skydiving). I know that it's not the best time looking for a job in the US. But, hey, it looks like economy is picking up again. Sorry if I'm too vague but I'm just looking for some input from fellow skydivers.
  12. Those are the states that I've been to. Of course weather and DZ's play a role too
  13. This is my girl friend's and my current situation: We are seriously thinking about immigrating to the US sometime in the next two years. At the moment we both have pretty good jobs and we are enjoying our lives (apart from the cold and wet weather, the "German life style" and the ridiculous ticket prices). I'm a PhD'ed engineer and she has a diploma in child care. As far as I know, Green Cards are hard to come by and working permits do no allow spouses to work. This would most likely put me into a position of me having to earn money for two people (who are both skydivers ). What would you guys say: How much money do you need to make a good living in the US (California, Nevada or Arizona)? What would be a realistic salary for an engineer? Are US companies interested in hiring foreigners? Input and advise will be highly appreciated! BlueS Andree
  14. Bummer. Washington is a bit too far north. We plan on going to Nevada and Arizona but it won't be the last trip to the US of A
  15. Man oh man! Where exactly are those cabins? Going to the US in May. Would easily swap a camper van for those cabins!
  16. This is a pretty old video http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hS9O8xK07do but the captions still make me laugh and the canopy pilot's guts to post the vid still fill me with awe. Is the guy (Tim) somewhere here on DZ.com? I would be really interested if he came out OK.
  17. I post this in the instructor’s forum because I think AFF instructors might have the data I am looking for. I am compiling a little program that simulates a skydive. It’s supposed to calculate acceleration, the resulting velocity and the course of altitude of a jumper. Users of the program can specify exit altitude and body position (belly, sit, stand, headdown, track) and they can deploy their chute in a given altitude from any of the mentioned body positions (it’s rather scary to even simulate a headdown jump with a Cypress fire at 225 m). Since the acceleration/velocity during a jump is highly dependent on the jumper’s body position and moreover on the change in the air’s density, I need some (Protrack)data of a jump with consistent body position. From this data I would like to extract some parameters such as air resistance etc. Can anyone of you supply me with a Protrack chart of an AFF jump (level one or two) that went comparably well (i.e. no big changes in body position during most of the jump)? Any other jump where body position was not changed from exit to deployment would qualify as well of course. Together with the jump data I would need some info on the instructor’s weight including equipment, exit altitude and ground elevation of the DZ. Another question is if anyone has an idea or real data of realistic (average) speeds in different body positions. My guess so far is: belly: 50 m/s, sit: 70 m/s, track: 42 m/s, headdown: 78 m/s, standup: 72 m/s. If anyone is interested in the program, I will try to make it publicly available. Thanks in advance. Andree
  18. Me and my mates got our Microns yesterday. Can't add too much news to this thread though. Gary really went out of his way to make it happening. He actually conquered a snow storm that was going on in the UK and Germany. Will take pictures soon and post them in the "Post your Micron" thread. Thanks again Gary!
  19. I love how he's trying to collapse his slider
  20. 80479 +470 = 80949 177 + 1 = 178 80949/178 = 454.77
  21. Have to agree on these thoughts. I ordered a V306 with an Optimum 126 from a shady guy over the internet . It holds a Nitro 120, a Crossfire 109 as a downsize and different sizes of various HP canopies like a Velocity as well. I think, as long as I keep liking the colours, I won't need another rig for a long long while.
  22. Hey Bigway! What colours would that be? There are so many in your corporate identity/ web site Looking forward to my professionally converted Micron Cheers Andree
