  1. When the canopy might have come out or inflated. You don't know when the loop was cut. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  2. The less time he spends at the office the better. Yeah, but all his rediculous tweets come from FL. on Sat. when Ivanka and Jarod aren't availble because of Shabat. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  3. To say what Doug said a little clearer, those ARE NOT normal reserve openings from 100'. They are reserve canopies packed with the SLIDER DOWN. IF you don't know what that means ask a base jumper. DO NOT BASE ANY OF YOUR EMERGENCY PROCEDURES ON THOSE VIDEOS. DO NOT CUTAWAY FROM ANYTHING AT 100' UNLESS YOU PLAN TO LAND WITHOUT A PARACHUTE. Pick a reasonable cutaway minimum altitude for you and your equipment. Quite likely that will be at LEAST 300' and probably should be higher. If lower the alternative is to pull your reserve WITH OUT CUTTING AWAY to get more nylon over your head. If packed like a reserve is supposed to be packed they likely would NOT have opened. Also remember that this is a promotional video trying to sell SkyHooks and Vectors. Seek other opinions. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  4. A lot better than the markers and coloring pages I used last time I bought a custom rig. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  5. I got a shirt for my wife from them at the Symposium.
  6. The statement in the decision about the second amendment not applying to "weapons of war" and therefore the ban is legal just shows how poorly those involved understand firearms. NO readily available semi-automatic rifle is a 'weapon of war' or meets the definition of an assault rifle. While there may be folks in uniform around the world using semi-automatic rifles, and others HAVE been military battle rifles and 'weapons of war' (M1 Garand, 8 round clip loaded internal magazine), these aren't. Not to mention the law is absurd. A mini 14 is banned but not a mini 30. A Ruger AR 556 is banned but a SR 556 is exempted. Another AR-15 type rifle is banned but the heavier barrel version isn't. If the antigun folks writing these laws had a clue we'd be in trouble. If someone believes in the intent of the law they should at least be educated enough on firearms to write a meaningful statute. 8. I'm not a wingsuiter but given the recent video of the opened main being sucked back down into the burble of a wing suit (slider already down and I'm sure if collapsible PC already collapsed that a standard PC might be advisable. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  9. I didn't take time to compare to the new flyer but M2 cutter will be going to axe head type and shorter cylindrical portion with the new changeable this summer. If this is the current/old one then the measurements are longer than the new one. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  10. Don't sell your gear unless desparate for.money Skydiving is part of you life and can stay a part forever. It took me 47 years to find my wife, another skydiver. Nkw we have two great firls when I had given up ever having kids if my own. Along the way several broken hearts and sadness that a woman couldn't be what I needed. Don't give up. I'm old for my age. 11. MARS changeable mode also includes user adjustable activation altitude. They wouldn't let me take a photo of specs side of data sheet. Not public and unit not out until June. $1099. Oh, and change to ax type blade from circular cutter. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  12. Nothing obsolete about large rings and type 8 risers. Type 17 had issues for a long time and some still do. Type 17 fixed but still trickier to be right. Any Javelin can be retrofitted for an aad if not anyway. Might let folks jumping in 1990's answer questions about the 1990's. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

  14. Just for grins attached are two photos of Lee modeling a 1941 Switlik Safe-T-Chute Quick Attach Seat. DOM 1941 last packed and certified as airworthy in 1978. All cotton and I assume silk canopy. Still sealed. BTW I'm old and can't for the life of me remember who on this forum gave this to me last year. My deepest apologies and please remind me who you are. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE

  16. A little more direct answer. Yes you need to be concerned about fit if the harness to your body. Finding a harness that fits you and your dedired canopies may be a challenge. But your weight MAY mean that a harness that fits 5'7" 145 might fit you. But a rig that fits 5'10" will likely be unsafe for you. You may be best looking for an used adjustable harness student rig. You need to try on ANY rig you consider with an experienced rigger/ear dealer. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  17. If I come, planning on it right now, I'll have it with me but not scheduled for a seminar. I figured milking it for three in a row was enough. I did find that I HAD a photo with a gunner wearing one NEXT to the dual cockpit biplane it was used in. Didn't realize I had it. It was the final thing I didn't have to put the original laps in context. They needed laps for these gunners because they sat in a sling and didn't have room behind their back or on their chest to operate and traverse the machine gun. The lap was on their thighs under the shelf below the rim of the cockpit that held the magazines. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  18. Thanks for the lead ( no pun intended ). I just ordered some from : https://www.amazon.com/Listo-162-Refill-Box-WHITE/dp/B007QEL3XG Jerry Baumchen Yeah, but did you buy the pens to put the refill leads in? https://www.amazon.com/Listo-1620-Marking-Pencil-WHITE/dp/B007QEEF5Y/ref=pd_sim_229_7?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1&refRID=0R2GGG0XDSMAZCZ81F3A I'm old for my age. 19. The gold standard Dixon pencil listed in poynter's is no longer available. I don't know of any other product that has been tested and data has been published. Lots of folks use Sharpies by default. Stadtler lumicolor was also rested but there are lots of versions now under that name. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  20. Considering it went out at 400ft or so, yep. Divots were there years later. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  21. The real answer to a newbie is that we all, when we were baby skydivers and twentysomething or younger, thought we had a better way to do things. Every once in a while its true. Mostly folks like you need to listen and learn from the experienced folks. At least until you have a clue what you don't know and have learned what kind of things can kill you. Yes, get a purpose built altimeter. Deciding what you want there is confusing enough without trying to make something do what it wasn't meant to do. Example, I don’t have to see/read the numbers on my analog chest altimeter because it has color codes and I know 3000' is pointing away from me in the way I mounted it. I'm old for my age. 22. What do you do when a regular pumpkin doesn't make a big enough crater? Get out the big'uns. For some reason some of the photo looks photoshopped but it isn't, that's me. 2x4 taped between door sill and step is to keep pumpkin from bouncing on step. Bret would brought out two or three of these a couple of Halloweens for our pumpkin bombing contest. He would throw them but then didn't get to see the splash. I volunteered to throw one for him. I'm guessing 160lbs. No comments on the harness. Bombing altitude was about 400' so I'm wearing an old student harness tied off to plane. No canopies. By the way that we are ready for take off. It and I didn't get in any farther. We did this for a lot of years. I usually was judge and would dodge pumpkins as they landed. A little like javelin catcher. I'd usually step about 4 or 5 feet away from impact. When they were close. Some were a 100 yds out into the woods. Pilot/plane owner/dz owner is deceased so no fall out. I have had this print bouncing around my shop 20 years. And then when I went to put it up last fall couldn't find it. Just did again. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
  23. This is to a large extent influenced by personal choices. Gear you choose to jump, how you maintain it, how you pack it. There are jumpers with 3000+ jumps with no malfunctions, another stopped counting at 39 with 1000 or less jumps. Not every malfunction requires a cutaway. I had 4 in 600 jumps and none in 2000 jumps. You may have first on jump 1 or jump 3000. Revise your thinking. You should be ready for a malfunction on each and every jump. I'm old for my age. Terry Urban D-8631 FAA DPRE
