  1. We are both on the same page; there's nothing wrong with wearing the costume.
  2. I've never been to Nationals or any skydiving comp. for that matter. Would you say the social scene that revolved around the vendors from previous nationals was a good thing that was missed from this year? Thanks
  3. Bama vs SC game was great! SC played awesome, but I'm still glad Bama won
  4. A few posts back it was stated that wearing an illegal alien halloween costume was NOT protected under freedom of speech. A similar issue has been in court before with a win in favor of the costume wearers. Don't take my word for it, google up Iota Xi Chapter of Sigma Chi Fraternity v. George Mason University, 993 F.2d 386. While wearing KKK, illegal alien, gang banger and hitler constumes may be in bad taste and even take a poke at other people; wearing the offensive constumes are still protected under freedom of speech. As said earlier, freedom of speech is not limited to verbal words. It applies to dress, music, expression, cinema films, theatrical plays, and many more. The Supreme Court would disagree with you. Flag burning, as said by the Supreme Court, is symbolic speech that is protected under the 1st Amendment. Hardly a weak arguement. What's to be "upset" about? Relax, bro. This is thread about a silly halloween costume on a Skydiving website.
  5. No, it is speech. Speech as in the 1st Amendment is not limited to verbal words. To name a few, dess and flag burning fall under freedom of speech.
  6. So far its NO-45 and YES-1. I'm pretty impressed with the results, I thought there would be more nays. Looks like there might be hope afterall....maybe
  7. It really does not matter who the costume is portraying, in this case, it just happens to be Mexicans who are illegally in the states.
  8. Immigrant activists call out 'Illegal Alien' costumes The entire article here: http://www.cnn.com/2009/US/10/17/illegal.immigrant.costume/index.html?iref=mpstoryview Straight forward pole. Yes or no? I say no it should not be banned. I've seen/worn more offensive costumes before at adult Halloween parties. Edit: Thoughts?
  9. Did you get any compensation in return for your stolen canopy?
  10. SDSD is NOT Skyride. Along with Perris and Elsinore, SDSD is one of the three major SoCal DZs that cater to licensed jumpers.
  11. Thanks. I was a bit confused because some posters were answering as if cutting away would eliminate the "PC - reserve" entanglement. So wether cutting away or not, in most cases, the PCIT is still there; cutting away just allows the main to freely jetison/seperate (hopefully) from the jumper during the opening shock of the reserve. Is this the logic behind cutting away a PCIT? Thanks, I needed the Barney style answer, lol.
  12. My question/concern was not one of time, altitude, or which EP is better. It was more of a how, than a why, would cutting away be effective if there is no drag to "away" the "cut". Seems like the only thing that would happen would be the release of the 3-ring from the harness without any seperation of the main from the jumper. Hope that explained it better.
  13. Hopefully some of you saltier jumpers will chime in on this and help me out. With a PCIT the container is still closed; if you cutaway, in my mind, it seems the only thing you would accomplish would be seperating the 3-ring and having 2 flailing risers to worry about vice *only* a PCIT. Would the flailing risers be enough "drag" (for lack of a better term) to clear the main (d-bag and all) from the jumper? The container is already closed, so what would cutting away accomplish if there is no "drag" to pull the main (et all) away from the jumper? I understand the risk of having two out, jarring the container open, etc... I'm just trying to understand how cutting away would achieve anything at all other than seperating the risers from the harness if the container is already closed and the PC is not effective. Maybe I'm over analyzing this
  14. I'm pretty sure most did. Its not the friggin' DaVinci Code...
  15. While I don't agree with him potraying all blacks as undeducated gang bangers and incinuating that all blacks had a part in the L.A. Riots (you know what I mean), I do understand the idea the article is trying to convey. Anyways, if anyone, the Spanish are to blame for Slavery in America
  16. There are many rivalries, but few can be compared to Bama vs Aurburn. There's an actual reason for the rivalry, and not just some made up prestige like many LSU or Texas games. The Iron Bowl is 24/7, 365; not just one day a year. Many rivalries remind me of Red vs Blue.
  17. I'm an achiever! Welcome to the world, dude

  19. I've read both of Grossman's books, On Killing and On Combat. He does not say the reason for the .45 to .9 change was to wound the enemy. He insinuated that it was an added benefit (can be argued). I may be wrong, but that's what I got from his books.
  20. Any word of dude logos? We should get 'em all in one place to check 'em out.
  21. No DZs in Shanghai. Go to Thailand, maybe.
