  1. What would be impressive is if they took them all the up instead of 10,000. It would also be impressive if they weren't all super cheap groupons!!!!
  2. I am aware of the proper sequence and I know that it's 'supposed' to make it look better. Beside making it look better why do it? There are a few manufacturers that place the grommets in the center of the flaps and they all seem to come out looking fine. It's not just one but most that i have put together recently. I guess I just dont' see how having the top and bottom grommets off set to one side can promote any sort of symmetry? Not to mention the extra strain on one side of the material. So I guess the better question would be....Besides trying to make the container look good does it actually serve any purpose??
  3. Can someone please tell me the purpose of offsetting the grommets on the main packing container?? the whole thing always looks cockeyed to one side. Is there an actual purpose or is it an overcomplicated solution to some problem???
  4. Just wondering how other DZ's conduct their safety day activities. Is it lecture style or 'circuit' style? What topics are covered? are refreshers covered? barbecues? parties? Just looking for some new and exciting ideas so as to avoid a whole bunch of people barely engaged in a large all day lecture. thanks.
  5. It's probably been done but I was just wondering, from a riggers point of view, what do you like and don't like about any of the rigs on the market today. IOWs, If you were to design your own harness/container system, what things from other rigs would you put in? What would you leave out/do away with? What would you add that isn't already out there? Reserve systems, closing sequences, harness styles, looks, construction, cutter location, etc. Would love yo hear what people have to say.

    Tipping

...But I bet you make more than a Barista, before and after they get tipped, without your tips.

    Tipping

Don't bother unless they really deserve it. Tips should be EARNED.
  8. We just put 2 brand new sigma drogues into service and they keep twisting up in drogue fall to the point that it won't collapse at opening. Has anyone experienced this?? Anyone have any idea what could be causing it (besides possibly being unsymmetrical). Anyone know of any easy fixes?? I'm calling the UPT tomorrow but I figured I would ask 'the people' first. Thanks
  9. To set the lines or not. That is the question. We were having a discussion as to whether or not you must "set the lines" after replacing a line set on a parachute. By setting the lines I mean doing a sub-terminal opening before taking the brand new line set to terminal. Thoughts or ideas?????? Thanks
  10. I was just given a javelin to repack and the entire outside of the reserve tray and A-E flap and a few other ares have been colored in with a sharpie. It was white and now it is black. Has anyone encountered such a thing? Other than looking ridiculous, is it bad and how bad is it? Thanks
  11. Does anyone have info on this. Supposed to move a brake attachment from outboard to inboard. I just don't remember where in board and the brake line configuration once it is done. I did the calling thing and the right people were not available soo i figured I would check in here. Thanks.
  12. Wrongly placed blame??? It sounds like you people are placing blame on Rob, who is sitting in a hospital in Thailand for being a thrill seeker and spending his meager earnings on a fun adventure in his off season. FYI Base Jumping doesn't have the same high costs as Skydiving. Yes it's Voluntary! So is making a donation to help out someone that needs help. It's VOLUNTARY. IF you don't want to give or don't agree with a bunch of people trying to help out another person, don't make a donation and shut the fuck up! To the best of my knowledge this is Rob's friends, NOT Rob, trying to raise some money to help get our friend out of a hospital in Thailand. Why do we have to try and justify why NOT to help a brotha out. Have skydivers really become that mean, nasty, and greedy? The guy is hurt. Damage done. No sense in being jerks about it at this point.
  13. I know Rob. I know he is hurt in Thailand. Are you convinced now? Super cool guy. Awesome skydiver and Base Jumper. Have you seen the AFF video where the big plane flies right underneath the AFF people? The one that looks at the camera after the plane flies by is him. Def Not a scam.
  14. It's called 'the barter system' $20, a jump ticket, six pack of beer, etc. or whatever. IMO the rest of the world should adopt this system again. Aint nothing in this world for free and if you get something for free you should show your appreciation by buying the dude a rack of beers or a jump ticket or a couple of pack jobs. I like to charge people beer for water training and packing classes. When we are all done we can sit around and drink the beer and talk about how much fun we just had.
  15. The alternative closing method was not just created to prevent this pin piercing thing. It has been around a very long time, probably at least as long as the racer has been around because this is how you close a Racer. At one time, believe it or not, lots and lots of people jumped Racers. 'Back in the old days' it was pretty normal for people to use the Racer Method to close their rigs for a variety of different reasons including: "I have been doing it this way for so long that I'm just used to it." just saying
  16. I figured I would get a comment like this. Just for the record, I'm not saying either of these guys are good or bad. The examples shown, in my humble opinion are not the best examples of what the OP was looking for and that is all. Someone mentioned that they are good examples and all I was trying to say is that I didn't think that they were good examples.....the flying on those particular videos - not the video guys. My point is that we should be looking at Tandem Videos and talking about them. It would give some anonymity to the camera flyer while allowing us to see how people are flying and what kind of video comes out in the end. I completely agree with you so you didn't have to repeat yourself for my sake. I'm on vacation. When I get home I'll see if I can find a couple of vids for everyone to pick apart and tell me what I can do better. What you said about the bubble and cone is tandem video 101. Everyone should know that if they want to fly video.
  17. Ummm. I really don't know what to say. I guess if you don't know any better the FLYING may look kind of cool. What does the video that the student took home look like??? Maybe we should be looking at the videos that the students took home and then try and look at what the video guy is doing. The dude went low and did the ol' "sideways suck-it-up" move. I only watched it once, but I didn't see the lens while he was doing it. If the POV camera cant see the lens I don't think the lens is seeing the tandem. Like someone else said, may not be the guys best work, so maybe someone should be posting some really cool actual tandem videos where the video guy incorporates some freeflying into the product. It won't be hard to figure out what they are doing and then we can start having a good discussion about freeflying tandem videos.
  18. That's what I thought as well but there were no other numbers or "next maint" included. I'm gonna cycle it up again and have another look in a bit.
  19. Yeah, but it's saturday and I can't get a hold of Airtec or SSK on the weekend so I thought I would try the next best thing...Dropzone.com. Definitely not one of the crappy "black market" units. Anyone else have an idea? it also has a little "in" underneath the "13". Thanks again.
  20. Switched on a Tandem Cypres 2 this morning and before it went to "0" a 13 flashed on the screen. It's not the date of the next service, just a plain old "13". Does anyone know what this means??? I can't find anything in the manual. Thanks for the help.
  21. You're right it's not 1:1 but that is the principal. Using downward speed to create forward speed.
