  1. I know that on skydiving harness's it must be 5 cord, Just not sure about the paraglider harness. I'm also thinking it would probably be alright and I agree that 5 cord should be used. I guess I'm just wondering if it would be OK as a last resort without any problems or is it a definite NO-NO???
  2. I have a customer that had to take apart his leg straps on his paragliding harness for some reason and he has asked me to sew them back up. Can you do this sort of thing with regular E-thread or do you need to use a harness machine???? Thanks for your help.
  3. Nope. I have already decided that I'm not going pack it. Just trying to see if other people have come across zig-zags instead of bartacks and what they did with the parachute. IOW.......You are a rigger and you came across and parachute that required a SB and the work was done prior to you receiving saiid reserve. Upon inspection you notice that the work that was done, was not only done poorly, but is not in compliance with the service bulletin. What would you do????
  4. When i called Precision, George said that if the SB was done wrong there is no fixing it. Once you have punched holes in the material it weakens it. If you punch more holes it weakens the material even more. He said that he was sorry but he canopy was no good. I'll post some pics later today and maybe some other riggers could give me an opinion as to whether they would keep it in service or not
  5. I recently came across a precision reserve that needed and had received servcice bulletin blah blah blah. upon inspection I noticed that where there are supposed to be additional 42 stitich, center-start-stop, bartacks installed there were zig-zags. Some were in the right place and some ran up above the whole entire seem up into the "cell" part. Some of the stitches look like they had bad tension on the bottom and just melted all the threads together into a pile. Just wondering if anyone else has encountered zig-zags instead of bartacks in regards to this service bulletin and what would you do about the not so good work????/ thanks
  6. Hi there. I'm gonna get back into riding after a 15 year layoff and I need some advice on gear. I can get a really heavy discount on Burton stuff so I'm gonna get burton. What are the best bindings and boots for an intermediate rider? Thanks for any and all your help
  7. I was just looking around my loft and noticed a whole bunch of old stuff that is no longer usable. I was thinking that I could recycle some of those old d-bags and sliders and stuff. What kinds of things have people made from old gear?
  8. Cool, thanks. Anyone else??? the more the merrier
  9. I did a search and came up with some stuff from 5 years ago and it wasn't very helpful. Do any of the riggers out there have a "price list" of loft services that they can post or PM me. I have recently been placed in charge of the loft on my DZ and wanted to get an idea of what to charge people for different services, i.e. replace BOC, new line set, opening and closing already packed reserves to swap cypresses or something, inspections, assemblies, pack jobs, sewing, etc, etc. How do you figure out what to charge people for all the other things that they ask to do that aren't on the list? What other "special services" do people offer to customers? Does anyone send out re-pack reminders? I'm just trying to get a feel for whats going on out there so I can be fair to all my customers. Thanks for everyone's help.
  10. Waiting for things to break before fixing/replacing things is just bad. Why not take care of your gear like a responsible skydiver. Then you don't have to worry about horseshoes, premature deployments, and other ugly things that can almost totally be prevented.
  11. Anyone know where to get a manual for one of these machines? An online one would be ideal.? Or..... does anyone know how to adjust the timing??? Any and all help would be appreciated. thanks.
  12. TI get 32.50 AFF gets 35 video gets 50
  13. I can't seem to find the recommended closing loop length in the manual. Does anyone know what it is? it's a w-25 with a 218 in it. thanks
  14. Sorry about the clarity. Thanks, this is the information that I am trying to extract form this conversation. anyone else???
  15. This i what you tell visiting jumpers when you give them a DZ briefing at your DZ???
  16. How is the ground speed relayed to the jumpers? Do you have to ask for it, or does the pilot tell the jumpers what the ground speed is before you get on jumprun?
  17. please elaborate. What's not being taught right and what's the right way to teach it?
  18. who determines the time and how do they come up with the number?
  19. I don't give a damn about which method is better or not. That isn't even what the post is about. I'm wondering how people do it at different DZ's. What is the procedure for determining exit separation at YOUR dz. I'm really not intersted in what people think is the more superior method. I'm aware that time is the most accurate way to ensure correct separation. For instance.......At some DZ's, the pilot will announce the jump run speed and time between groups before the green light comes on. At others, the jumpers talk about it before they get out. If I was coming to your DZ for the first time how do you explain to me what the particular policy is for exit separation at YOUR DROPZONE.
  20. How do you do it at your DZ???? Do you go by time determined by ground speed? Do you go by angles? What is the procedure for determining Exit Seperation where you jump? Just trying to get some ideas and what-not. thanks for all your input
  21. Anyone know if these guys are still doing a podcast? Just wondering
  22. we can have WFFC any where we want to have them, but they won't ever live up to Quincy. There was something special about Quincy that wasn't there at Rantoul. I miss Quincy too.
  23. Skydive New England.. we are far from you but it's a really nice place private airport, free tent camping for skydivers, super dog friendly, fulltime otter and we jump everyday the sunshines.
  24. ........for editing a tandem video as quickly as possible?????? So far for I haven't found anything that is faster than good ol' linear editing. I can put out a 7-ish minute video in 10-ish minutes, complete, finished and in the students hands. I haven't been convinced that there is a machine out there that can equal the speed of me and my "shoot-to-edit, linear system". I shoot about 4.5 minutes of tape for an average tandem video. 3 times I talk to the student, I show the freefall once in real time and then show it again with some slow motion and then the landing and the end with titles at the beginning and the end and I use 3 songs. Now, can someone please tell me if this is at all possible to do, in less than 12 minutes, with a computer??? If the answer is yes, then what camera/machine/software are you doing this with? I would like to hear from all the people that can produce a video, on the computer, and still make every 15 minute calls all day long.
