    Gambling

They actually moved "in conjunction" with the legislation because the government was trying to leverage a tax, but when they went offshire it took away their control so they banned the transactions to these institutions.

    Gambling

I believe that a number of laws are made to protect the masses from an individuals actions; smoking in public is one such law. Some laws are made to protect the individual from themselves; most drug laws among others. And then their are laws to benefit the government. The online gambling laws are just that. Of the BILLIONS of dollars being spent and earned via online gambling the government gets nothing, and just like the mafia they want a cut of any action in there neighborhood. But since there is no way for them to collect from the company's since they are mostly offshore or would be if some collection was attempted and there is also no way for them to go after the individuals spending the money they make it illegal for the middle man, who are large credit card companies who have large revenues (only a small part of which comes from online gambling), the target. Online gambling is not illegal. Credit card transactions with online gambling facilities is what is deemed illegal by the US government. This also gives them access to a possible arrangement with the credit card companies or the gambling houses to instill a tax on US customer transactions if these companies feel they are losing enough revenue from the imposed law. There is talk of how to do the same thing involving any online transactions where no taxes are being paid.
  3. Oh yeah, then there was the time I was at Coolidge and decided to drive home. As I pulled onto the highway I decided I was too drunk to drive so I went back to the DZ. Problem was I was so drunk I couldn't find the DZ. I drove around until I finally gave up and parked near a building. I woke up in my car about 150yds from Mullins hanger. Let me know if you want more...
  4. I've got lots of stories like that... After dropping my friend off late one night I got a flat on my 4Runner. I pulled off the highway into a parking lot to change the flat and the spare wouldn't come down. I crawled under the truck to fix the mechanism and woke up there at 5:00 in the morning. At Rantoul one year and I woke up to someone banging on my window. As I cleared my head enough to see there's a guy yelling "You're in my car!" I waved, he shrugged his shoulders and walked off, so I went back to sleep. And then there was the time at Rantoul when I woke up in the hospital in Champaigne. I proceeded to pull out all my IV's and attempted to pull out the catheter but I found those things don't come out that easy. There's more to this story, but I'll leave that for another time.
  5. Jump #67(C182 - 4 jumpers): At about 1200' the pilot points off in the distance and there is a wall of dirt blowing straight for the DZ. The four of us look at each other and tell him to get us over the DZ and let us out. We exited at around 1500'. All four of us deployed our mains; I was on a Sabre170, two on a Stiletto120's, one on a Heatwave135. I was first out and jumped and threw. It opened fairly quick probably less than 300 feet. One of the Stiletto's went by in a snivel, the other two canopy's opened in about the same distance as I did. We all landed safely and got inside before the storm hit. I asked the guy who had the snivel what he was thinking and he said his hand was on his reserve handle watching his altimeter. His canopy opened before he felt the need to deploy his reserve. The guy under the Heatwave was an instructor and the other two guys were fun jumpers with a few hundred jumps each. So it will work, but are you willing to bet your life on it? I would probably still go to my main at around 1000 feet. Much lower and I would be looking for my reserve handle, but I am very comfortable with the opening characteristics of my main.
  6. Me Too!!! My 1st car was a 1970 Challenger with a 383 and a slap stick Automatic...I was 16 and in love. So have you put your deposit down?
  7. He looks very happy, as always, in most of the pictures. There were a couple where you could tell he was quite hammered. I thought he only got fucked up when I came to visit...
  8. That is most definitely a sound recognized by the vast majority of people on earth. The reaction is invariably "Oh shit I just fkd up!" followed by running or a thump as the perp faints.

    Online Poker

I agree with bigway and from what I've noticed he's doing fairly well with his method of play. However, his suggestions are only the starting point, as he very surely knows. The books as he mentioned will get you further into the psychology and strategy of poker. The first thing is reading your own hand. Next, reading your opponent(s) hand(s). Next, is reading what your opponent thinks you have. etc... And then comes the thought of what do I want my opponent to think I have... The small money games will be similar to the no money games in the way they play. People will go all-in with nothing hoping to hit something on or before the river. Hell it only cost $1 or $2 and they can get right back in another tourney immediately. That is one of the issues with online gambling. No matter what amount the buy-in is you're never truly out because there will be another just like it starting in a minute or two. Live tourney's are completely different. Even if the casino has two a day, which they have around here, when you're out you're out... You can't just jump into another tourney because you made a bad play. The WSOP even more so. You wait all year or life for the opportunity are you going to go all-in on the first semi-descent pair of cards your dealt...I think not.

  11. I don't think he touched it either. I think even if he had the call was ridiculous. I'm for ASU and I still think it was a stupid call. At most the ball should have been ruled dead at the point of contact just as if it had gone out of bounds. It made no difference anyway, but that was a pretty unfair ruling.
  12. Then apparently you haven't been reading the conversation... There were three to four wraps of the lines from my reserve around my main risers. Luckily the reserve stayed in the freebag and I caught it and stuffed it down my shirt before I had enough forward speed to finish removing the freebag from the reserve... I landed with a reserve PC in tow.
  13. I'm not ignoring that fact. I had "good results". I am stating exactly what happened and what my EP's are if it ever happens again, period!
  14. As may be, but I guarantee if I ever have a PCIT again I will cutaway first... And pretty much everyone; instructors, S&TA's, fun jumpers, and TI, I have talked to about this said they would probably cutaway first also. Had my reserve opened as it should have we wouldn't be having this conversation because like Marc I would probably be dead.
  15. I only have my direct observations and formed opinion to go by but: If Marc would have cutaway before pulling his reserve he would probably be alive. If I had cutaway before pulling my reserve I would have probably had a fully inflated reserve over my head rather than the main. If you cutaway the main in a PCIT situation and then go to the reserve there is a higher probability that if the main falls out of the container it will not open. If it opens it will not be connected to the harness and will for the most part be out of play. If the main is not cutaway and the reserve opens the probability of needing to deal with a two-out situation is inevitable. The probability of a two-out entanglement is greater than that of an entanglement resulting from a PCIT cutaway. I don't have any empirical data to support my theories but I would be more than willing to debate any of them.
  16. I get in to ATL Friday at 6:00pm. I've got a car and will probably just head to the Farm unless there is something else going on that I don't know about. It's a sad occasion, but it will be great to see everyone again...some of you for the first time, eh Chris! Tony edited to add: -------------- If anyone is needing a ride let me know.
  17. It was strictly luck that had me land uneventfully. In reality the reserve should easily beat the main out. So the only thing that could have happened is as I was pulling the reserve handle the main was lifting from the tray. It's just a matter of timing that the main inflated enough before the reserve that the reserve didn't clear the freebag and that I didn't have enough forward speed under the main to clear the freebag since I now had a reserve PCIT. Had either of these things happened the reserve would have inflated with several wraps around the main and collapsed both canopies. If I had cutaway the main before going to the reserve, even if the main would have inflated it would be out of play and the reserve would have opened as intended. As for the other accident, you asked me this same question in that thread, Nov 2003 "Fatality Coolidge Arizona".
  18. I had a PCIT at around 100 jumps jumping a friends rig. I didn't try to clear it. I treated it like a HS mal and went directly to my reserve with no cutaway. BANG, canopy opens, but when I look up it is the main. I reached for my toggles trying to determine what just happened and there were some loose lines wrapped around my risers. As I was getting these clear of my toggles something hit me in the side with enough force for me to look down. It was the reserve still in the freebag. In the middle of thin king OH SHIT! I stuffed it down the front of my shirt. That handled I released my toggles and landed in the peas. Four or five folks came running out asking if I was OK. I thought I stood up the landing why wouldn't I be OK? They said all they saw was a reserve PC in tow and that was the reason they came running out... I didn't even think about that. Must have looked pretty scary from the ground. So my friend lands and everyone tells him he almost killed me and my friend said "Everything looked fine from above." It was at this point I started to realize how much trouble I had actually gotten myself out of. A friend of mine actually died from the same mal a few months later. Today I would definitely have cutaway the main prior to deploying the reserve.
