  1. Actually, Chuck just turned POPS material a couple of years ago. I had to compete against him in his first POPS meet at Lake Wales. He started jumping when he was a baby !!! Ed
  2. I must bow to your much lower D # and say "You are right." Are you saying that a lower "D" number gives one some sort of priviledge ? I like that !!! Ed
  3. LeRoy (and others), Tony Thacker is still the Mid-Atlantic Regional Director until February second. That is when I take office. I am however kept appraised as to what USPA is doing. Ed Scott is on the case and he is as good as they get at what he does. Right now he is in contact with the leaders of the program. I am hopeful that something can be done, but not realistically encouraged. This is not an airport access or airspace issue, it is purely militarily political. One thing that I have not heard mentioned in this thread is that soldiers can learn to deal with their fears and learn to think under stressful conditions when learning to skydive. This seems to me to be a paramount issue when this objective can be achieved under controlled conditions and then the skill transferred to combat conditions. This training alone should be worth the pittance of expense when compared with other programs. Ed
  4. Different subject. The November issue of Parachutist is out. It is the election issue and contains the ballot. Please vote (for me). Thanks, Ed
  5. Thanks for the good wishes, Katie. I am still trying to get a copy of the ballot. Leaving shortly for the West Point boogie for the week-end. Ed
  6. The November Parachutist was delivered to some yesterday. Mine still did not arrive in today's mail. The Election Ballot is in that issue. Can somebody attach here or email an attachment of the ballot for me? Thanks, Ed [email protected]

    Solar POWER

LeRoy, 2500 watts (2.5kw) is less than a quarter at the rate I pay. By the time you replace storage batteries, you have produced more polution than a power plant producing the same amount of power and you have paid more for it. In some areas wind/solar can pay off, but where you live it would be difficult to justify. Ed
  8. Yep, there it is 105.23, pasted below. If you could finish this out winning big damages, lots of problems that might follow this at other airports would go away. It's great that you have a skydiving lawyer. Give 'em hell !!! Sec. 105.23 Parachute operations over or onto airports. No person may conduct a parachute operation, and no pilot in command of an aircraft may allow a parachute operation to be conducted from that aircraft, over or onto any airport unless-- snip ......snip.......snip...... (b) For airports without an operating control tower, prior approval has been obtained from the management of the airport to conduct parachute operations over or on that airport.
  9. Well clearly your DZ does not meet the definition of Demo jumps. Clearly they are in violation of their grant assurances to ask you to leave without a better explanation. They may be on firm ground if the naked drunk skydiver issue can be proven, that would constitute a nuisance activity. For the purpose of this post I will assume the naked, drunk part is in the same category as demo jumps. They are saying you must cease operations. Do you really have to do that ?? Consider getting advice at USPA and perhaps force them to evict you. What is their legal basis for eviction? Is the dumped dirt harrassment? How much financial loss will you sustain if they illegally evict you? Consider making them pay your losses while closed, if evicted. It is possible you may not have to close and they may not have the stomach for the fight if you present cases for them to see that they will lose in the end. Of course if the naked, drunk skydiver part is real, you have an uphill battle. Ed
  10. Hi Liz, Sorry I missed you on my last visit. Looks like Eric got a good shot !!! I did get to speak with him. If you don't already know, my name will be on the ballot for RD thanks to many of you. Please pass the word there. Take care, Ed
  11. I can coach the SOS jumpers to a new World Record. Thanks. . PMs are blocked, so perhaps I will be forgiven for going off topic. Does that mean there is a new SOS Record? How many? Will you be doing coaching for the East Coast group in March? Ed
  12. . Hi Jan Me bad wrong rules. So based on your numbers which i don't doubt It only takes approx 3% of USPA membership to elect a ND. BTW didn't you get elected ND as a write in canidate the same year as Mr Mullins. R.I.P. Low percentages look bad, but that may not be the whole story. It would be even worse if we had a high percentage of members voting, who had not done their research and then placed people back in office who may have done a poor job. Perhaps a thread is in order on which National Candidates should be re-elected and why. With the membership decline, it is more important than ever that we "get it right". Ed
  13. I've been a member of USPA for a couple of years now, and I've never figured out how to vote in the elections. I'd definitely do it if I knew how. Jennifer, I will put a ballot in your hand and give you all the instruction you want. Ed
  14. Everyone should note that the material on the Elections Page is from the last election, not this one. Ed
  15. I saw Debbie 3 or 4 weeks ago at CSS, Louisburg. She was traveling north by car and just stopped by. She expected to be up north about 3 months. She did not rule out a return. Ed
  16. The best I can tell, we are scattered between Walterboro, Chester, Raeford and Coastal Carolina. Some aren't jumping at all. Ed
  17. Tomorrow is Coastal Carolina and a beach jump for me. Ed
  18. LeRoy. I am getting worried about you. Ed
  19. Bill, how do you assure you have 60 cps and sync with the power company ? Ed
