  1. I have to say something about Billy at Windline Jumpsuits in Lake Wales, phenominal service. Also put Laura@alti2, Bonehead and Performance Designs right up there as well. I cannot name another group that gets the kind of service that we, as skydivers, enjoy !!! Ed
  2. One of my businesses involves repossessing. When we have a cloudy period I go and help. Yep, same rush. Ed
  3. According to the local law enforcement web site, I drive by over 40 just going to buy groceries !!! Ed
  4. When you meet J.R., you will be totally comfortable with your decision to jump at Chambersburg. J.R., his wife and son all jump together at their DZ !!! Ed
  5. I certainly agree with most of the methods given so far to determine wind direction. I have seen several people bruised up pretty bad because of the following scenario when landing off. Quite often you are off because your exit was downwind of the DZ. So, one faces into the wind to get back and can't make it. It is a force of habit for most of us to turn 180 ( or two 90 degree) and face the wind on normal landings. What I have seen happen too many times is that this habit pattern takes over and they do a 180 just prior to landing and now they are going downwind !!! It is even worse when it turns out to be an active cow pasture. Ask Air Trash. Ed
  6. Yep, I could be the oldest active jumper here, though I do jump with some (much) older. Started in December 1965, made 190 jumps last year and draw SS. Anybody been around longer and still active? Ed
  7. I have shot bullets underwater many times with my powerhead. I just paint the case to keep water out and never had a failure to fire. So, as has been said, if the hammer hits hard enough, it will fire. Ed
  8. I make much of my living from rental property. I am thinking about a "No Skydivers" clause. Ed
  9. Easier said than done. My policy clearly excludes anything related to aviation. With that said, I do know someone who used the policy on a small skydiving related injury at the emergency room and stated that when being admitted. At my age, getting any insurance is not easy. I'll be on medicare in a year. I really don't know whether they would pay or not and asking would be senseless. It likely would evoke a negative response and assure non payment should anything happen. I could pay my bills if I had to, but that would probably be more painful than the injury. Ed
  10. It is entirely possible, even likely, that no matter what you say, how you say it or how right you may be, that you will be looked upon as the problem. Many DZO's just don't want to be bothered. Ed
  11. About 5, all for speeding and all on the way to the DZ (never leaving). In North Carolina I had to hire an attorney (Raeford) and in Florida I had to take a skydiving day and go to traffic school ( Lake Wales) !!!! Ed
  12. Sorry dude. Your comment is noted, but you are clearly speculating. ______________________________________________________ Aren't we all ?? Ed
  13. How could it be a trick if he failed? See my edit. Ed
  14. I salute David for being able to be paid well for what he does. With that said, I have little respect for his magic. Anyone can turn off a camera and move something, then turn the camera back on, or have a bunch of people that are on the inside to verify authenticity. I say that because I KNOW how some of his "tricks" are done. It reduces the believability of the things he does that are good. I have seen Penn and Teller do a similar breath hold event and it was a trick. I expect the David Blane "stunt" was a trick as well. I don't know how it is done, but he is not the first to do it. EDIT: If he had made the 9 minutes and it was a trick, he would have had to be exposed because of the world record. That's why, I believe he didn't go the 9 minutes. Ed
  15. I just can't put them in the trash or otherwise destroy them !!! I call it "reverse shoplifting". When I go anywhere that has a waiting room, I take a couple of magazines and read them while I wait. When I am called, I just put them on the rack as if that is where I found them !!! Ed

    New Suit

Billy makes a great suit, but I would send it back if I were you. He forgot the grippers !!! Ed
  17. Low wing blocks visibility. Inside fuselage is low and hard to get out fast when more than 4 way. It's great for DZO. For jumpers, it's an "OK" jump plane. Ed
  18. FINALLY. Lake Wales DZ is beginning to rebuild. The first of the rebuilding has begun. I understand they will be in the new structures before Christmas. It appears to be bigger and better than ever. They are to have TWO large buildings. The attachment shows one of them and I believe it is 16,000 square feet. This is from the building plans. It could turn out to be the best skydiving facility in the world. If you want to see the floor plan, you may have to save it and then enlarge it to get the detail. Ed
  19. Do they post here?? If not, only a few days to get them "legal". Ed
  20. People who use mapquest get wrong directions and it makes them terminally grouchy. Ed
  21. That is correct. A major feature change is seeing the image live on the rear screen. That is important to astro-focusing and useless in skydiving, plus, it costs more. Ed
