  1. You owe a HUGE appology to a lot of people. And you knowledge of the Military and it's workings is flawed. Matt lol at this topic. but for real, he doesn't owe an apology. others like me who are serving or have served understand why we fight. our job is to protect the freedom of those who can't protect themselves. we sacrifice our time and sometimes our lives so others can do what they want, when they want (within the extent of the law). if you want to be a conspiracy theorist... go for it. i don't care, and i doubt many military folk take to heart ramblings like this.
  2. Check out the Sword of Truth series by Terry Goodkind. I started reading them after I read the Drizzt series. Also fantasy, but much different type of setting and more involved story. Good read. http://www.amazon.com/Wizards-First-Rule-Sword-Truth/dp/0765362643/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1253981651&sr=8-1
  3. i've jumped there. pretty good people. never had any experience selling gear though. but, they're pretty by the book there, so i would trust them.
  4. Not when you're supposed to be a professional. This guy shouldn't have been flying for an airline. Completely incompetent.
  5. if he is missing a .dll that is critical, then he will have to get it some how. either burn a cd with the file on another computer or put it on a floppy disk. either way, if a missing .dll is the error, you have to get it before anything will work. usually, when things get really messed up on computer's i fix, i will save any important documents (not programs). save files, pictures, movies, etc. save those on a cd or external hard drive or something. then, just reinstall the whole operating system. always works much better than any fix. makes the computer feel like it's new. a bit of a pain... but, worth it. your call. otherwise, get the .dll that is missing installed again.
  6. only if the ruler is included with it.
  7. yeah, to piggy back on what icon said. a gps is fine to use if you want to, but always have a map with you. don't rely on your gps. assume it will fail at any moment, and you'll be fine.
  8. i do a lot of solo backpacking/hunting too. i usually just use a compass / map. just make sure you study the area you plan to be in first. learn the elevations on the map, how it works and all. you have to be able to translate what you see on the map to what you see when you look around the mountains. i do keep a simple gps with me though just in case. it just gives me coordinates, so i can reference on the map where i am. these things are so cheap and light, you might as well get one to be safe. you can get one for under $100 easy. also, make sure you have a decent survival pack you keep in your pocket (especially when away from camp and all). don't want to be caught out there without anything.
  9. boulder? well, that's the problem. bunch of yuppies who want to get paid for smoking and joking. worthless bunch of...
  10. if you all are interested in reading this story, as well as many others of a similar nature, check out operation homecoming. pretty good book.
  11. eh, if all the hours spent skydiving were used for productive shit, the world would be free of hunger and aids also. fun is fun, no justification is necessary. and MP as i know it is military police... but he may be talking about another type of MP.
  12. chances are if this is some spam mail or other malicious type of thing, it was spoofed. it it's from a single dumbass, you can get the sending email address... but that's about it. no physical location will be associated with it.
  13. i live in the springs, love the weather. sure, it's seasonal, but it's mild compared to many places i've been to up north. can get a bit windy next to the mountains, but no big deal. colorado has great weather imo, but you gotta like snow sometimes... and bears i suppose.
  14. you a grad? or rotc? if either, what year?
  15. hey, i want to get into that, but just haven't had the money for both. anywho, all i've found are some crappy yahoo board sites. not anywhere near the quality of dropzone, but oh well. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/pilotsppgclub/
  16. compared to firefox, faster starting up and faster browsing. no useful extensions like "IE tab" yet though. nice how there's no header bar on top, more browser space on your monitor.
  17. interesting. so slow flying with the wind, will that give you your best glide rate (assuming the winds are strong enough to push you enough to compete with full flight)?
  18. Hi. The other day i was flying in a pattern to the lz behind someone that just got off of AFF. the wind was fairly still at around 15 or so, and he was playing downwind and setting up for a straight in approach. because of the layout of the dz (highway nearby) and some of his previous maneuvers i saw him doing (spiral down) i didn't want to cut in front and get in a blind spot and risk a collision. i started higher and back, but i had a faster fall rate. in my position i felt it was safer to follow his approach which, as you probably assumed, landed us downwind of the lz. my question is, will applying breaks and getting into slow flight lower your fall rate? this would have kept me above the other jumper and prevented any risk of collision if i moved into a better landing position. i'm thinking it will, and i know it makes your approach steeper. just wanted to confirm this. thanks!
  19. i'll try what you guys said. i tried paragear, but they have a $25 min online purchase? whats that about, is it too inconvenient for them to send something out unless the order totals to at least $25? whatever, thanks for all your help everyone.
  20. Hey everyone. i'm trying to find a store online that sells replacement velcro straps for the Galaxy (for the basic hand mount). mine's starting to get worn, but im having trouble finding anywhere that will sell these individually, not just in bulk. can anyone direct me? thanks!
  21. hey. i just wanted to get a feel for what you all thought of this situation. my rig was in the trunk of my car for a few days while moving, and i assume temperatures got pretty warm in the trunk (outside was 80's). the main was pulled from the container, but the reserve was packed. any of you think a repack on the reserve might be warranted in this case? could the high temps cause a malfunction somehow? thanks!
  22. i just brought my girl along with me to learn how to jump. problem solved!
  23. well, there's also an option for booties, so its not that i dont think.
