  4. I've watched every episode since it started this year and it reminds me a lot of the Quantum Leaps early episodes. I agree with bigway that last nights show was very interesting and should lead to some great stories. Blue skies, Jim
  5. compiled from Victoria Advocate wire reports November 11, 2007 - Posted at 12:00 a.m. Amputees skydive to prove life isn't over ROSHARON – On Saturday, World War II veteran Fred Winter, 89, went skydiving with five other amputees to show the world that losing a limb hasn’t limited their lives. The jump was organized by the Amputee and Prosthetic Center of Houston, which makes and sells prosthetic limbs and offers support groups and educational programs. The company made special Velcro straps to keep the jumpers’ limbs secure. The event was the brainchild of Jody Wallace, of Pearland, who lost her right leg below the knee in a 2002 car crash. She’d gone skydiving the year before and wondered whether she’d ever be able to do it again. “I feel so empowered because I feel like I’ve overcome this tragic thing,” said Wallace, 27, who works for the center counseling people who’ve recently lost limbs. “I feel like I can do anything.” Blue skies, Jim
  6. I was working for Hughes Tool Company and we had a manufacturing plant in Argentina during the years that bill was printed. One day the VP-Manager called me and asked if he could move the payroll from weekly to daily. When I asked him why, he stated that at a 1000% inflation, the decrease in one week was hurting all the employees. I agreed. Several weeks later he called and said it was working better, but could we pay at noon and end of day. Apparently what was happening was that you would get your paycheck and run to the first store you could find that had something to buy and you would spend 100% of your pay on whatever they had. Say shoes. Then later someone would come to you and say "Do you have any shoes to sell?" You could then sell him shoes at that day's price as a hedge against further inflation. What a way to live! 7. Although the weather could be an issue in March, the first boogie had a certain appeal to it. I can't believe you really said it this way! LOL Blue skies, Jim
  8. Scott: Thanks for the huge smiles and laughs. I'll always think of you when getting on a plane. You asked me to load a plane for you so you could make a jump. I said "ok", but you were so busy that day you never did make the jump. I'm sorry I was not there for you Wednesday. Fly free Scott. Jim Blue skies, Jim

  10. LOL that is really funny! He wouldn't tell me where the dz was until I gave him my CC number so he damn sure wouldn't tell me his real name! LOL Blue skies, Jim
  11. Sorry bud, but you are wrong and don't know what you are talking about. I heard the guy on the phone say it after I asked if the amount he quoted was the total price. It was very clear that he wanted to charge me an extra amount for a "pilot chute". I quote him "you do want one of those don't you?" Blue skies, Jim

  16. Bill was exactly correct. Both were very new jumpers and felt the first riser release, dropped the cutaway handle, and pulled the reserve. In both cases, the other riser was still connected and the cutaway handle was hanging from the hard housings when we examined the equipment. Although in one instance, it appeared that the jumper actually pulled the cables (between the handle and the hard housing) with her thumb instead of the handle since it was still in the pouch. I don't recall if either had an RSL, but with the one riser still connected it wouldn't have changed anything. Blue skies, Jim
  17. The two jumpers in Texas swore that they felt the risers release and then dumped their reserves into the wad of crap. It is a very, very good idea to sweep the cutaway cables if they don't come out of the housings. Blue skies, Jim

    1-800-SkyRide

I called Skyride once to hear for myself their sales pitch. It actually wasn't to bad. They hinted that the dz that was relatively close (although not the closest). They would not actually tell me the dz's name until I charged the jump, but there was enough information that I could tell who it was. The cost was not materially different from what the dz actually charges. However, then the fun started. When I asked if that was the total cost, I started getting "Well it doesn't include the pilot chute fee. Don't you want one of those?" I guess that could be intimidating for a whuffo! Then I got the infamous "you need a packing fee", a "weather fee", ect. By the time I got the actual Skyride "total" cost it had no relation to what the dz charged. If they had the balls to charge what the dz charged and then tacked on a reasonable "service fee" like Ticketmaster does, no one would bitch at all. I guess it all gets back to "If it walks like a duck, quacks like a duck, and looks like a duck" it damn well might be a duck. Blue skies, Jim

  22. Well, yes because the defendent was not liable. BUT what about the defendent's attorney's fees and defendents lost job time to get the issue resolved. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Our DZO at the time told me it cost him around 25k to defend this suit. Utimately it cost him the DZ because he said he wasnt going to go thru that again and sold out for pennies on the dollar. That's exactly my point! He got sued and was found not liable, lost everything and the plantiff walks away with "loss". Some justice. And if he couldn't come up with the $25k to defend himself and his company he may have even been found liable. If you sue someone you should be liable for their damages if they are found not liable. Currently I guess you could then sue them for the damages, but now you're out even more. Blue skies, Jim
  23. Well, yes because the defendent was not liable. BUT what about the defendent's attorney's fees and defendents lost job time to get the issue resolved. I really think the courts ought to automatically award at least attorney's fees to a defendent when he is dismissed from the case or found not liable during the trial, I'm still peeved about getting sued in the 80's because of my employer's actions and then being told by the plantiff attorney 3 years later when I was dismissed and out $13K that I was only included so I would keep the financial records for the plantiff.
