  1. As the crow flies it is, but looking at train times they are about the same, although Basingstoke station is much closer to the tunnel than Bedford is. A few other points, Milton Keynes is a 12 ft and 1000 hp whereas Basingstoke is 14 ft and 1600 hp (and as such Milton Keynes is priced slightly lower), and as said Bedford is 16 ft. Milton Keynes has the SNO!Zone real indoor snow slope right next door if you want other stuff to do. Basingstoke has a Skiplex and Brushboarding in the same building which are artificial skiing and surfing (but not so much as the SNO!Zone and the Flowrider). All of the instructors at all of the tunnels are great and can offer coaching and fun. If you are around at the end of the month there is a monthly gathering of skydivers in a pub that you might like to join for some skydiving banter, drinking and to meet the locals (not really suitable for 10 year olds though) Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  12. I'm no expert having only done a couple of the basic launches, but the default is an F. Point and OC have their legs hooked inside the tunnel and everyone bunched up in the accordion. OC gives the count and everyone flies in. Obviously as you step in, you need to start flying, which requires pushing the legs back and staying up. Initially launches can be over done point and OC hit the wall, so don't put too much into it, and think about braking with the knee down if you do. Tail usually just flops in at the end and can often take their time (relative to the others at least). H is also another similar simple launch depending on what point you are going to next, with the same line up but tail gripping both OC/IC and has the advantage of anchoring them and stopping them from sliding too far in the tunnel. These launch techniques came about from tunnel comp rules where time would start as soon as head and shoulders appeared inside the tunnel. This year, the World Challenge rules have changed so that the clock doesn't start until flying starts which has lead to more skydiver type launches with floating off the door (inside the tunnel) and as long as the net isn't stepped on, it's all good. This is giving rise to some new and interesting launches as Fish mentioned. In a recent interview with Bodyflight's Paul Mayer for the (my) new British skydiving podcast, he says that this rule is also being used at the Paraclete competitions, so we are starting to see some standardisation. 17. There's already one in Incidents so it doesn't need another. I was hoping this would be more on the legal aspect after the fact. Th question is should this one be locked? (I think not at the moment, but try and keep from rehashing the incident itself guys). Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

  19. SkyVenture lists SF Bay as a 1000 hp tunnel, whereas NH, CO, and UT are 1200 hp (and Orlando/Perris/Milton Keynes are listed as 1000 hp also), which may also factor? Anyone know what the power of the new (Austin, Dallas, Downunder, Seattle) 14-footers are? It isn't quoted on the SkyVenture website but all these tunnels quote "upto 160 mp/h wind speeds", whereas Manchester (and although not stated, I believe Basingstoke also, both are 14 ft.) is 180 mp/h from 1600 hp (recirculating as opposed to the 1600 hp of Arizona and Alcantarilla which are also 14 ft). My point being if you are a bigger guy wanting to learn head-down or a 4-way VFS, is 1200 hp enough? Maybe in 12 ft, but 1000 hp would be a struggle, especially for a lazy/uncoordinated guy like me! Solution for that is topped out speed isn't it? :-P Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live
