Skydiving in the UK - BPA membership mandatory?
cpoxon replied to Uriel2728's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
If the DfV membership includes third-party insurance of at least €1.3M (and I believe it does since many German nationals have skydived using it at RAPA near Paderborn) then you do not need to purchase BPA membership. BPA membership includes £5M third party insurance. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live -

Yes. They discussed it with Rook in Show 207 of Skydive Radio. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Seems like a no-brainer with lots of military work nearby. So this isn't an iFly tunnel: http://www.aerolab.com/ Judging by the brief in the logo competition, Buzz has plans to branch out. Sounds like it is being built in a rough neighbourhood though? From another article (that didn't mention the double tunnels?) Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Wow, Chicago has a population of, what, < 3 million?! I know were lucky having 3 tunnels within 60 miles of London (population > 8 million) but I wish we had a tunnel actually in Central London. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

New Royal Caribbean Ships promise an onboard Windtunnel
cpoxon replied to Maxx's topic in Wind Tunnels
The cheapest cabin one can get for that trip is £1,437. The standard rate for an hour in Milton Keynes (12ft) tunnel is £620. So one would need to fly for 2.32 hours (2 hours 19 minutes, on 7 days of cruising equates to just under 20 minutes of flying a day ) to 'break even'. You'd have to get yourself out to England in the first place and/or return from New Jersey which would bump the price up but you'd get 'free' board and lodgings on the trip. It's a future plan Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live -
Whilst Peregrines/Petras/Leias go a different route with their plan form, JoJo Wings are going quad braced in their XFPro. There is nothing on their website. Does anyone have any experience? They say it is their competition canopy and "Being Quad braced gives it a lot sleeker and more ridged profile, and it is the fastest piece of nylon being made in Europe!" Is Sherry Butcher in the same boat as Rich Winstock??
cpoxon replied to stayhigh's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
Playing Devil's advocate, I try to be as digital (paperless) as possible, which means taking notes on my phone/tablet. I remember a 4-way coach once picking me up on not paying attention during a debrief, whereas I was actually updating my block notes! So the phone usage may have been related. Does your jump pilot put down/extend flaps on jumprun?
cpoxon replied to dorkitup's topic in General Skydiving Discussions
DiverDriver makes no mention of flaps on jump run on his website for Twin Otters, but does for (at least some) of the others. I jump at the only Otter dz in the UK and both pilots add flaps on jump run. I think it's in the SOPs. I shall ask at the weekend. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live -

He seems to be doing it quite early on. I suspect he just tired/weakened, especially given the attached pictures. Agreed. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Why? - he's made it to age 90. What's the worst that could possibly happen? Seriously. Yay George. Former president of the US dies while skydiving. Bet that would make the news. 80 Lb break cord perhaps? He wasn't unstable ergo... Less than 10 seconds of drogue-fall. Exit height ~ 6000 feet? Doesn't look like the helicopter is running in that fast either. Skydiving Fatalities - Cease not to learn 'til thou cease to live

Firstly a couple of caveats: - I am an Aerodyne Sponsored Instructor - I've never jumped a Velocity I did about 500 jumps on a Sensei 91 loaded at 2.4 I had one spinning line twists after a 4-way jump which I attribute to bad packing by a packer, but I was able to kick out of it by 1200 ft (silly, but I was very altitude aware, felt confident I could get out of it, and I had a Skyhook and a hard deck that I hadn't yet quite reached). I had another spinning line twists after a high hop and pop which I packed and I think was due to being very sub-terminal and poor body position which I knew I wasn't going to be able to resolve and chopped it pretty high. I'm now jumping a Sensei 81 loaded at 2.7-2.8 depending on whether I'm jumping my full camera setup or not. I've only done about 75 jumps on it, but it opens fantastically. Love my Senseis.
