  1. The spelling Nazi's are alive and well. You must have a hell of a time surfing the internet if you are this concerned about a misspelled word. If someone wrote "I flaired my canopy", I would know what they are talking about and wouldn't be such a cheese dick to point out a simple mistake. Lighten up Francis. my name isn't francis, Timmeeeyyyy (south park voice) ;) Why don''t you look up the word "sarcasm" in the dictionary. next time ill put a gazillion after my post. No fun if one has to explain the sarcasm of a post bah ;)
  2. okay smartass, so it is possible to flair a canopy ;) bah, you know what i mean!
  3. so, to all you illiterates out there: A person can have flair But there is NO SUCH THING as flairing your canopy, or my canopy doesn't flair well. IT'S FLARE! >>Def. (English) final nose-up pitch of landing aircraft in order to reduce the rate of descent to approximately zero at touchdown
  4. that's a myth! You dont have to breathe, because of the airspeed the oxygen will just penetrate your skin, no need to breathe in freefall.
  5. We don't want you to come, stay away
  6. That something that we used to do to old worn out large sized Sabre1s. Really, though, I wouldn't do that to a Katana, that's a quick way to end up on your back spinning towards earth. Every Katana I've jumped I packed neatly and with a normal pro-pack. Every Katana I've jumped has opened very nicely that way. If the OP wants another canopy, that's fine, but it makes me wonder if there is something wrong with the canopy he has that isn't specific to the model? hmm, must be my kat is getting old then. sn 78 ;)
  7. yeah, that's exactly what I had before i stuffed the nose. Very "snappy" off headings at the end of the opening. I kind of roll the noses of the 4 outer cells so they are easier to get into the center cell. When done it kinda looks like a part of a womans anatomy ;) A while ago i thought the stuffing wasnt helping and i left the nose hanging out...again snappy off heading opening....
  8. I can only comment on the katana openings part of your post. I noticed that the more neatly i pack the shittier the opening gets. Also, I stuff the outer 4 cells on both sides into the center cell. That way it opens up nicely from the middle instead of one side of the canopy trying to fly before the other side. I also never look up at the openings anymore and just push the risers out a little on opening. I get good openings. I dont really mind if the opening is "off heading" I just go with it if it wants to go to one side. I used to fight it and had to cut away once as a result. Once its flying its a dream. For what it's worth, having never flown either the neos or the xfire2: I noticed from looking at others flying the xfire it has a shorter recovery than the katana, it opens better than the katana Neos: you don't see many of those, must have a reason. I asked for a demo 8 months ago, still no neos....
  9. Choosing the smallest rig based on your current canopy is not always smart. Suppose you get to the xbraced canopies with this rig, then it might be way too small
  10. thats what i do on my katana. (also known for exiting openings) Before i tried steering the opening on rears...gave me some wild rides. PS your casual grips on the toggles gives me the creeps ;)
  11. Exactly. You all babble, you should have done this, you shouldn't have done this, I would have done this bla bla bla.. Yeh yeh, you people would have done a perfect save from a mal behind your PC in your warm room, you (nor me, nor anyone else) knows exactly how they're going to react to stressfull situations and even the almighty skygod with 10k jumps can fuck up on some kind of emergency.. So quit all the bullcrap and chill out with your "you're going to die, oh noes, look at your bad cutaway, look at you flying a cam at these jump numbers", I'm so fucking sick of this DZ.com bullshit! Rant out. You gotta love them 100 jump wonders No offense intended buddy, but bookmark this thread and read it again when you have much more jumps. You will wonder who this overconfident Sangi guy is
  12. the basics can be learned on any canopy. Canopy piloting, as in hp landings etc, comes much much later. By then you will be able to decide by yourself what canopy comes next. I am really into CP and enjoy the canopy flight more than the falling part, but i am still sometimes amazed at how little i know. I started making real progress after about 600 jumps, and after i slammed into the ground once first. Just keep jumping, take the time to learn the basics. For future reference and if you are a PD guy you could consider the sabre2-katana-velo path. probably more info than you needed but hth

    Argus

neh, its still a tie. One party says the argus didnt cut the loop, argus says it did ... check out the photo's in the accident report. I have an argus too because i swoop a lot and have no issues with it. Ofcourse what can one say about its operation when one has never had to use it for the purpose intended. Imho it looks like a burble & subsequent entanglement reserve bridle freebag problem to me. It would have been better had they not moved the freebag after the accident, because there is no way the reserve came down like that neatly packed pile... ofc i may be looking through argus glasses because i use one myself. But then again, considering the way skydiverek is burning the unit I cant be too bothered by that
  14. I moved from a sabre2 135 to a katana 120 @700 jumps. Unlike the shit I had heard about the "satana" "widowmaker" "extreme bladibla", it turned out to actually fly like a dream. The CF has a bit shorter recovery arch than the katana (but much longer than the insta recovery stiletto) and it opens better. I'd say getting the cf 139 would pose no problem. This is all assuming common sense/ self reflection and focus on CP. Just get a friend or a paid coach to guide you on your CP quest. Don't lean too much on some extremists here thats would have you fly a manta 300 the rest of your life. I mean, you have a stiletto, so you are familiar with the HP openings and the elliptical steering. The only difference going to the cf would be that is goes down somewhat faster due to slightly higher WL. + you can actually do swooplandings safer than on the stiletto. Just start slow, with 90 degrees turns, get digital altis/beepers to get consistent, try up high first etc etc. I'm sure @ 450 jumps you know its a bad thing to whip a toggle to avoid someone or something on final at 200 feet..... Seriously ppl, whats wrong with a larger recovery arch for ppl that have the basic knowledge and want to get into swooping. I have a much higher aversity against the stiletto hooks @ LOW i see all the time. I was so glad i got the katana, I started to turn MUCH higher and you have more time to adjust your turn or to abort it. /rant

    To "riggers"

yikes, how did you manage that? only ~200 jumps / 1 reserve?
  16. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FJLfhB9akJI&feature=related Is that video yours? Have you ever thought that a canopy might open without kiting? It isnt my video, just thought it a nice one to relay here. I've stopped looking up during opening and only push all de risers outwards a bit and get way better openings than when i was trying to steer the opening. (this is on a katana btw) But aside from that sidestep, I posted it because i find statements such as but I think I would simply get irritated having to deal with a line twist or hard end-cell closure turns on every opening."" way too harsh for such a gentle opening canopy as the s2

  18. how many do you want on top of the issues mentioned above.....? No point in continuing the same line of questioning... Cutaways and reserves are there for emergency use.............Why would you @ your experience level want to create such an emergency? What do you seek to learn? You can demo reserves using them as mains. As for intentionally cutting away while in a self induced spiral... I would only advise that if you are tired of living and want to try something new.
  19. is it still a requirement for D? What a strange requirement to have to do 2 night jumps for your d licence. What would one benefit from that experience, safety wise? It's not like you ever going to jump out of something and suddenly discover that the sun has set long ago...
  20. dont fully agree, imo to get a "swoop" on a canopy with a super short recovery you'd almost have to aim the recovery a bit below ground level, otherwise you'd probably be high almost every time. If the auto recovery is just high enough you could be in trouble because there is no or little flare power left. I dont mean to promote my youtube vids here but i think i have a nice example of what i mean at 2:44 of this vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qtyuqFDDNbA The auto recovery put his body far forward and the canopy at a high aoa before he had to flare, i think in some cases even a stall could occur at this point. This is why i think a canopy with a longer recovery is safer to learn swooping on. You'd have to be ready for the other characteristics that usually come with these types of canopies, experience wise. ofc pattern and setup can be practised on almost any canopy.
  21. If it fits.. then yeah. Why do you ask?
  22. this is what you get if you combine: 1. starting to swoop @ too low jump number 2. low wingload 3. very fast recovering canopy (pilot in this case) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xgr1qdQHgx0 I was lucky..... The problem on lightly loaded and fast recovering canopies is that the difference between a somewhat nice swoop and a hole in the ground is so very very small. And this wat @ wl 1,3! So, no not a good canopy to learn to swoop on. sabre2 would be better.
  23. it also helps to look to where you want to go to. Kind of like riding a motorbike through a corner. Also, keep in "fly mode" as long as possible. From what i see at my own dz and others is that many many people go into "walk/run/land mode" way too soon. a pilot never really wants to land ;) The best you can do is put off that moment as long as possible
  24. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9Bv_NqiT7pM&feature=player_embedded he handled it very well though! cool move
