Welocme Newbie, I jump Perris all of the time. Since the weather is getting warmer plan a long weekend at Perris. Decide if your going to stay in the bunk house 8 dollars a night, or pitch a ten or sleep in you car. Arrive early Saturday Morning and get all of your paper work out of the way. (one time deal) Pre pay for your jumps. Ask in the Manifest office who is doing Load Organizing for the day and introduce yourself. If your doing RW you will meet approximately 10 other skydivers who will jump with you right off the bat. same with Free Flying! At the end of the day you can take a hot shower and hit the Bomb Shelter for dinner (some awesome food) and beer. (don't forget first round is on you) stay up late (more beer) and introduce your self to others (your making more friends) Sunday rolls around and you meet another L.O.(maybe the same one as the day before) and some of the 10 skydivers you jumped with the day before and some new ones too! Come back next week or the week after, you'll see the same faces (all whom will say "good morning are you on the next load" ) Plus you'll meet more skydivers. It really is that simple.......... no objection from me, however here is something to think about too. Flowers are nice, however not knowing the financial situation of the family maybe a check to help cover the funeral expenses, since it costs roughly 5 grand or more. Or maybe purchase a tree they could plant that will last longer and can be nurtured. The guy is so guilty, the cop are just waiting for him to trip himself up. He doesn't seem like a "family" man to me. I mean who goes fishing on Christmas eve? The 24th was a Tuesday, why not go fishing the weekend before? or the weekend after? How come he hasn't gone (fishing) since then? I mean if it was So important to go on Christmas eve how come he hasn't since? Most people I know (who fish) are addicted to fishing, the same way we area addicted to skydiving. they go every chance they get? How ever someone who's wife is pregnant and being a holiday, I for one would have been home. Where is his Family? Haven't seen anyone come forward to support him? First off Congratulations on your wedding!!! Hopefully you make it to Cabo! However I want to let you in on the scam down there. I have lived in southern California all my life. Ever since I was 4, we took all our family vacations south of the border (Baja and Mexico) ) and I have never experienced what I’m about to tell you. My second and final trip to Cabo was last summer. Never before have I felt taken advantage of. Let me explain. On Monday from the hotel to the main strip in town (same drop off spot ever time) the taxi ride was 5 dollars, Tuesday and Wednesday it was 7 dollars Thursday and Friday it was 10 dollars. If you purchase something / anything, say for 4.00 and you hand them a 5 dollar bill don’t expect change. They consider it a tip and then act rude or dumb if you question them about it. Lunch one day was 12 dollars, all I had was a Fifty I got back 30 dollars in change. When I counted the money and looked for the waiter, he was no where to be found. I took a cruise in October with a stop in Ensenada (80 miles south of the border) I did not experience any of this, it seems to only be a problem in Cabo When taking a taxi ride ask before you get in, how much it’s going to cost to get where you want to go, and also ask how much to get back. The price can differ. In addition stay off the beach at night. The hotel your staying at will more than likely have a rope fence up, to keep the panhandlers back, however if you venture out, you are on your own Last but not least “Time Shares” is a big deal down there, every day you will be asked (even at the airport) to go on a tour to see the newest hotel offering a time share. (even the place you are staying at) It can time up to half a day to do a tour, with promises of free food, lunch, dinners, drinks etc. If you’re not interested, you may need to be rude and let them know you’re Not interested. It can become a daily hassle. I’m not trying to scare you; it is fun and a safe place to go, I just don’t want you to fall into any tourist traps. Try Squid Roe for dancing and drinks it’s a fun place at night , so is the Giggling Marlin. Good Luck and don’t drink the water, only the margaritas! If you want to skip on the repacking, than why bother wearing a helmet. Why not skip that too. In fact why bother wearing a rig with a reserve, get yourself a base rig. Better yet find yourself another sport, where if you feel breaking the rules is okay it won’t do any damage to the sport. Or affect those who’s jobs and lives depend on it. A good rigger should inspect the entire rig including the main. Plus check all service bulletins issued by the manufacturers, the FAA and the USPA that pertain to your rig, reserve, and main. What if your reserve was re-called and you were too stupid to know about it, because you penciled in the repack! Sure I would like to see a longer cycle between repacks, and we may get it. I've read all of the replies and haven't seen anybody address hook knifes. Obviously we can't carry them on. So what does one do if you are only traveling with carry on luggage? Assuming your rig is in a gear bag. do you leave it at home and buy one at the drop zone your visiting? ND
