  1. I'm over in Afghanistan right now. Mark was one of my best buddies. Someone please email me and tell me what F happened! [email protected] Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  2. Hey...ASS CHIN, If you're going to allow a BASE related discussion on a skydiving forum, why not let us talk about gear. I admit, it doesn't fall into the category of "incidents", but then again the ENTIRE topic belongs on a different web site all together! ALPHA MALE OUT! Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  3. Your talking about heading performance on opening. Stuff that BASE canopy into a Dbag and take it on a skydive. Anyway, this seems to be a discussion about RAMair canopy performance and should be continued in the canopy thread. You're missing the point! Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  4. Incorrect. There are many factors that influence any RAM-air canopy's deployment and in-flight performance. Plenty of BASE jumpers have experienced an off-heading deployment. Plenty of skydivers have deployed a main parachute unsuitable to land. A fun test is to lay your skydiving canopy next to your BASE canopy on the living room floor. Watch TV but keep one eye on the skydiving canopy because it's less predictable than the BASE canopy. It’s true that a BASE canopy is more predictable and reliable. A good buddy of mine could predict the opening on his BASE canopy nearly 99% of the time…at times, nearly 45% of those predictions were proved accurate +/- 90 degrees on heading. Try that with a skydiving canopy. The same guy also got a flat tire on the way home from the DZ; his skydiving rig went for help and never came back. Left his ass stranded all night. 5. Yep, that was me...I didn't get far at all. Sorry about the delay but I'm in Afghanistan right now and have been out of touch. He was a great guy and will be missed very much. Jay Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.

  7. I’m just about sick of hearing his theories. For a man who knows so much about global warming and is so insistent that we all change our lives he sure is a bit of a hypocrite. This dude flies around on a private jet that dumps 1000x more emissions into the atmosphere than my little car does! Who’s melting the ice caps now? The only good thing Al ever did was to create the Internet. Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  8. i'm moving to little rock arkansas in jan. any freefliers in the area? where does everyone from little rock (or arkansas in general) jump? do you stick to the 182s or travel to a turbine dz? any info would be great. jay Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  9. My ex-gf would give me compliments all the time(before we broke up). She would use one again and again. She would say "it might be short...but at least it's skinny!". Come to find out it's not a compliment. Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  10. I'm not sure your question can get a clean response. What you're asking is the "comparing apples to oranges" argument. You need a control in any experiment to get any valuable info. If a jump is posted on youtube and it is a good jump it may drive folks to push the envelope. If that same jump is NOT successful it will drive home the reality of the sport; folks will think twice about a jump based on that. After all the data is in some folks will follow my gramma; like she used to say "FUCK IT"! Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  11. By the way he was talking it doesn't sound as if his knowledge of gear is all that high. I wonder if he was referring to the shrivel flap the entire time. Unless he was doing a SL; and we know this was not the case, nothing should have ripped. It sounds like you all know the history of the rig in question. Is it an actual BASE container or a pseudo hunk of crap? Anyway, it sounds to me the entire problem is that he's not familiar with his/whoever's gear. Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  12. reply]are you rotating the bag when you put it in the container, with the limited room in the car you need to be extra carefull about that Yeah, you're the second person who has mentioned that. I guess that's the problem; should be an easy fix. I'll call you from the car tomorrow; you can walk me through it. Damn, what am I thinking? I can't talk on the phone while I'm driving. Guess I'll have to pack on my own. Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  13. I've been packing my main in the car on my way home each night. This works great but I seem to be getting a couple line twists. Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  14. What about the folks that can multi-task? Never been in a wreck due to mobile phone usage. Having a few "road sodas" and then getting on I-95 is different all together but that's a whole other story. Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  15. My buddy Ronnie jump there. PM me your phone number and I'll pass it on to him; I'm sure he'll hook you up. Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  16. Most people have never opened up the FAR/AIM; and would be very surprised to see what is and more importantly what IS NOT in there. If you have never read the regulations governing skydiving in the FAR/AIM you should do so. This is an excerpt from the Advisory Circular 105-2C (be sure to notice words like RECOMMENDS and SHOULD) Sport parachute jumping (also called skydiving) activity continues to increase and is an FAA-recognized aeronautical activity. Even though parachutists (also called skydivers) are not certificated airmen the FAA recommends that all beginning parachutists obtain formal training. Training should be conducted in accordance with the United States Parachute Association (USPA) training recommendations or by training programs from other similar organizations. This is taken directly from the FAR part 105 §105.19 Parachute operations between sunset and sunrise. No person may conduct a parachute operation, and no pilot in command of an aircraft may allow a person to conduct a parachute operation from an aircraft between sunset and sunrise, unless the person or object descending from the aircraft displays a light that is visible for at least 3 statute miles. My point is this. So long as he wears a light visible from 3 statute miles; the pilot has a published NOTAM for the area they aren’t breaking any laws. Is it a good idea? That question can only be answered by the people involved. Skydivers and BASE jumpers after all are not the type of people who adhere to words like “should” or “recommend” are we? Rock on dude; have a good jump! Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  17. i'm heading to texas for 30 days; i'm looking for some folks in the local area. pm me if there's anything going on. Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  18. Dude...I'f you're going to Wichita KS stop by a bar named "Joes". You should have your fists full in about 25 min. It took me only 30 to get thrown out. Quote-unquote...good folks there! Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  19. Dude...who cares where he is now. He flew the state-of-the-art helo "Air Wolf"! Aside from that he was the best surfer in "Big Wednesday"; the only thing that goes through Jan-Micheal Vinchents head is this. "If I were them and they were me I'd want to be me too!" Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.

WOW!!!! As a member of the Air Force I have to give it up to any person that put up with the fed gov for that long! Balls of steel. Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  21. Glad I'm about getting the point. If my post wasn't clear, you can mark me down for a "NO" along with you and the rest of the sane folks out there. Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
  22. Boogies don't kill people...people kill people! Get the stats right before we start throwing ideas around. I say if you do that you might as well ban freeflying, VRW, BASE jumping and choking your wife! Truth is the distilled meaning of facts, for any truth refuted by a fact becomes a fallacy.
