  1. Dude, I know the feelin'. Been 8 weeks for me now. Look at the bright side, plenty of time to watch the forums now. Rainbo Now I'm a loveable loser...feels much better Rainbo TheSpeedTriple - Speed is everything "Blessed are those who can give without remembering, and take without forgetting."
  2. you trying to say something BO. I really do have a canopy you can borrow...honest...it's in great shape...do not worry about the yellow and black suspension lines they're something new. 3. G'Kar...damn thing is accurate. Rainbo Rainbo TheSpeedTriple - Speed is everything "Blessed are those who can give without remembering, and take without forgetting."
  4. Well that is almost a loaded question on this forum. To be honest, 210 jumps in three years indicates to me there he is not real active or suffers from long seasonal layoffs. In my opinion, I have to say he is starting to push it. There is another thread that has generated a lot of discussion about canopy size and performance envelops for jumpers. In the end tell your buddy that taking a real canopy control class from experienced canopy pilots is his best bet. hopefully there is one scheduled in your area somewhere, if not maybe it's time for him to take a trip to get the right info and some training. Hopefully he will listen, if not hopefully he will use some common sense and expriment with the canopy in a step by step progression. If both of those scenarios are unlikely with this individual then perhaps as friends you should begin the process of accepting that he will buggar himself up to one extent or another. 5. So Bo, You need to borrow one of those Rainbo specials that I got laying around to keep yourself in the air. Good job bud. Oh yeah, I'm familiar with temporal distortion thing, but did you really think all that shit in that short of time. catch you later. 6. Just when I thought this thread was going the right way... You will never, I repeat never, keep the idiots from killing themselves. You will realize that after watching them do its for too many years. And you will realize that they alone are responsible (for the most part). I obviously am not talking about them taking someone else out. Even when trained as suggested above they may still take themselves out. And who, if not the instructor corps, would not know who or at what point to suggest moving on to a more high performance canopy. Take a look at who some of these people taking themselves out are, not necessarily newbies. But they still do it. Training is the key, not blacklisting, period. Again, that is just my opinion... 7. Someone agrees with me?!? Well even if you are new that's ok with me. The ggod thing in my mind is that this thread took the right turn...training is the real answer. And young jumpers listening to the information is critical to their survival. Sometimes those of us that have been around awhile really know what we are talking about...our opinions do not always reflect the actions we take when diseminating skydiving information..they are after all just opinions. Rainbo do as i say not as i just did Rainbo TheSpeedTriple - Speed is everything "Blessed are those who can give without remembering, and take without forgetting."
  8. Start with talking to your hubby's rigger. There are usually scheduled rigger courses set up in lots of areas. As for the question, my rigger no longer jumps so technically I let a non jumper rig for me. I have never had a reserve repack done that I was not present at. Usually afterwards we would have dinner and a drink. It never hurts to take care of your rigger. BY the way He has saved me 5 times in the past 23 years. 9. Thats what happens when all I have to do is sit around and play on the computer. oohhhh...look at the colors...ooohhhhh Rainbo I think therefore I thought Rainbo TheSpeedTriple - Speed is everything "Blessed are those who can give without remembering, and take without forgetting."
  10. Not arguing that point all. In fact I am quite supportive of that position, and practice it in good faith constantly. But I saying that enforcement is not the same as advice. I know there have been times where "I" did things that technically were beyond my experience, especially in the early and mid 80's. I know also that it still continues today with newer jumpers. "We" always find a way to push the envelop at some time or another. I'll bet that if most in this forum searched their souls they would have to admit they have done the same, maybe not to a dangerous extent, but none the less gone beyond their "licensed" limits. No. I will always push for everyone to perform in as safe as manner possible. Hopefully my advice in those instances will be followed, but, having said that... 11. Sorry, but I do not think you guys have got it yet. Look, how do you monitor all the used canopies that are out there? Do drop zones that have hundreds of people on a particular day have canopy police that check everyones gear? How about that buddy that gets his hands on something and lets you try it out? Do we implement a common sense BSR? I know I may be starting to sound repetitive now, but whose lap does the final decision lie in?!? 13. Coool girl. Look for me when you make off student status and I will set you up to have some fun, with me of course. Don't worry Wendy won't care. BSBD, Rainbo Rainbo TheSpeedTriple - Speed is everything "Blessed are those who can give without remembering, and take without forgetting."
  14. Lisa, I do jump at SDC. And lots of other places over the years. I know all to well the issues that we have had to live with over the years and am familiar with all those incidents. I guess that perhaps I have become cynical over the years, for the better or worse. I know very well the trauma that occurrs to others when something bad happens. I have had to say far to many final farewells and make far to many hospital visits to console those with broken bodies. I just point out what I have learned over time, especially when it comes to the make up of the personalities in our sport. I always tell people to start big (sic) and work down, but not everyone will take that advice. I point out that I have never broken a bone over many years and have had more than my share of stupid acts in that time. To say that we are not a breed that takes well to regulation by others is a general understatement. To say that in the end we must be responsible for our actions, not others, is not. 16. I read that article as well as the capital commentary that asked all of us to respond on the insurance issue. I did and the bottom line of that response applies here. As individuals we have to take responsibility for our own actions. Lower experience jumpers ask lots of questions, and get lots of answers, from lots of people. Sometimes they take the advice of the more conservative folks, usually instructors than understand the dynamics of inexperince better than others. Sometimes they listen to experienced jumpers whom they are somewhat in awe of??? In the end though they make their own decision and then they have to live with it. Sometimes things go wrong, sometimes they do not and a lot of fun is had. That is our life, you realize that after awhile. It is usually senseless to try and place blame on others shoulders unless it is an obvious case of blatant and gross misconduct. Should novices work their way down the performance envelop, I personally think so. Will I be able to convince every person who makes a bad decision not to make that decision, gear related or otherwise, unfortunately no. If I could Iwould have a lot more healthy living friends after lots of years in the sport. Bottom line then is still the same, "do not give up" whether trying to convey good advice or saving your own life. In the end this may sound cold but is simple business logic. If a vendor makes enough sales that hurt their reputation they will soon run out of customers. Kind of a law of the jungle thing, those of us who know about them will not use them, those that do not will not need them anymore after the incident. 17. If you've ever gotten out 40th from a DC-3 you know what a no lift dive is...if you want to make it to the formation that is. Chin tucked in, shoulders rolled in, and everything else in your shoulder burble. And you better know your timing for the flair because you really can not see what is in front of you until then. 18. I would dude...cept every time I spend to long on my head I spill my breakfast on myself?!? BSBD, Rainbo Rainbo TheSpeedTriple - Speed is everything "Blessed are those who can give without remembering, and take without forgetting."
  19. I jump a safire 135. My dytter bottom end is set at 2500 and I wave right after that. Pack openeing is 2000 normally and I am usually in the saddle by 1700. you guys can do the math. BSBD, Rainbo
  20. Most pilots I know give extra alti for that view. BSBD Rainbo
  21. Back in the mid 80's I did several "Mr.Bill" dives that were taken to terminal before we deployed. It can be done so why not give it a shot for your buddy. The key to holding on is in the grips. All you have to do is ask whether or not a couple of possibly busted legs is worth your pals life... BSBD Rainbo

Hey New guy, Sorry also...did not mean to get preachy, was just coming off a couple of bad days. If I do preach it is normally about staying safe and having fun skydiving. I think that is the track I will get back on. I look forward to sharing some time doing that with you and everyone else in the future...take care. BSBD Rainbo

Go ahead and make an example of my statements, thing is...I have been to many of the places in the world that are not as lucky as us. Thing is, I met the bodies of friends that came home trying to help some of the very people that are being used as an example here. And no, they were not military casualties, they were in something called the Peace Corps. Do not try to cite religion either...I do not want to get into that conversation...it is also far to dismal. My attitude is what it is because I have seen in person what so many only know from the safety of a book, magazine, or computer screen. From my perspective people throughout the world are basically the same, and over time have the ability to change thier corner of the world for the better. The fact that some are not allowed to is terrible, but you see, the thing is that in reality there is very little that any of us can do for them...fact! As I said, life ain't fair...nough said. geesh, I was just about to feel all guilty about my life...then I rememberedhow busy my day was going to be. 1. Clean leftover food off my breakfast plate. 2. Clean 3 spare bedrooms. 3. Waste precious food on dog, cats, fishes, and snake. 4. play here on my computer. 5. Take long drive to use up my idle time as I am not working and have not been for over a year. 6. get gear ready for weekend to waste more precious fossil fuel and polute the environment... You see life is not fair, never will be. I don't have time to waste feeling guilty about my position in life, I can just feel lucky. If I can do something to help, I do. this kind of crap pisses me off usually as it is doing nothing to help. Maybe the makers could better spend thier time helping the underprivileged as opposed to trying to make the rest of us feel bad about what we have. BSBD Rainbo
