  1. Eh, sorry, but you did seem to screw up a bit on Claudia's video, regardless of the TM's exit, and the TM did you a favor by coming down to you so quick. @:031 you're in position for the first time (even if it is facing the sun), so you've got just a few seconds of good enough video (IMO) before you back away for opening. The earlier part was unstable (feet in frame), way too far away and then some 'carving' towards the sun (why?). Just saying. ciel bleu, Saskia
  2. You mean the legs down in the video? I put that down as 'video flyer needs some help as he is too low'. I have had a couple of TMs do that for me too, when I was filming little kids and had some trouble staying up with the tandem. Sticking their legs down speeds the tandem pair up. ciel bleu, Saskia
  3. Not that many changes in goggles, so post of up to say 10 years ago should still apply. Flex-Z/Flex-Z Mini still are the very best IMO at fitting just about any face contact-proof. ciel bleu, Saskia
  4. Don't any of your local(ish) DZs offer static line? SL is much cheaper than AFF but you get the same end-result (A-license) at a somewhat slower pace, way cheaper per jump. ciel bleu, Saskia
  5. You want with (possibility for) internal hdd or without (smaller, compact player)? Without, WD TV Live Media Player is fine. Or one of the smaller Mede8ers, MED400-series or the newer MED600-series. With internal hdd, a bigger mede8er: MED500-series or the newer MED800-series. ciel bleu, Saskia
  6. Page not found Sorry, there is no video here. Either it was deleted or it never existed in the first place. Such are the mysteries of the Internet. ciel bleu, Saskia
  7. Think about it. What happens if you return to full flight (ie hands all the way up), then let go of the toggles? Where do the toggles go/have room to go? Where does the slack in the steering line go? ciel bleu, Saskia

  9. That could lead to another dislocation, so don't do that. Just tell the TM. Most often with a recent dislocation or easily dislocating shoulder you'll get told to hang onto the harness for the exit like everyone else, but you'll be told to keep doing that for the entire freefall. ciel bleu, Saskia
  10. This is the video of the mass jump 2 yrs later into the then-new airport. Even though there were 1 1/2 as much skydivers, this jump and the landing area were better planned so it wasn't nearly as busy in the sky and on the ground. Especially after on of the hercs got spotted for the wrong runway... I myself managed to land out as well, due to an argument with some germans: you go out first! no you go out first! plus me managing to stick my right arm through the brake loop and triple riser and whatnot on my borrowed spectre, which made hanging in brakes painfull. Ahem (see 5:15). Oh, and there was one BIGass flag as well WorldTeam2006 mass freefall jump 920 Bangkok ciel bleu, Saskia
  11. Agreed. I've jumped all 3, but when a lineset for my safire took forever and I found a fusion I could buy for less than the lineset+work needed, I never regretted it, in fact I still have that fusion in my 2nd rig. ciel bleu, Saskia
  12. Agreed, no 'bad rep' dropzones here in The Netherlands. Cost-wise, are you a skydiver already or are you going to do the first jump course? Some DZs here only do AFF, some do both staticline and AFF, might be one or 2 that only do SL. Starting with SL is of course much cheaper. Do consider that not all DZs can accomodate SL-to-freefall jumps, Texel comes to mind, so in that case you are better off either doing AFF right up front or jump somewhere else (f.i. Teuge SL-to-freefall or AFF, whichever you prefer). All KNVvL dropzones located in the Netherlands here: http://www.parachute.nl/paracentra.html ciel bleu, Saskia
  13. But it got my heart rate up just seeing it again
  14. I ran into an issue like that a number of years ago, when another skydiver (just a spectator, who didn't bring his own DSLR) borrowed my expensive DSLR and lens and went onto the water to shoot pics of the swoopcomp I was filming. A couple of photographers were allowed close to the course and I was going to get those pictures for the website and promotion and stuff (all duly credited of course). He then gave the camera back to me with a gruff 'give me the memorycard and don't use these pictures for anything they're mine'. OK, that was the last time he borrowed anything from me At least he still pressed the button, I just didn't like his manners and we should have communicated better beforehand... But what if I set up a helmetcam of mine for someone else, with the camera auto-set to take a picture every 5 seconds? ciel bleu, Saskia
  15. I prefer the nikkor 16mm f/2.8 fisheye for tandem/FS/CRW/etc, or the nikkor 10.5mm f/2.8 fisheye for tandem vertical shots (camera mounted vertically). AF works fine for both these lenses. For non-fisheye-y I tried the sigma 10-20mm f4-5.6 but I didn't like it much, although some people at my DZ use it for tandems/FS4/students. The nikkor 20mm f/2.8 works as well on a apsc body if you fly a little less close. Some random vertical shots with D80/D200/D300+10.5mm: [inline 1231575_578375748886800_1451978047_n.jpg] [inline 229223_168641703193542_7742285_n.jpg ] [inline 295823_211100578947654_4393833_n.jpg ] ciel bleu, Saskia
  16. Have you tried a blowswitch? Sounds more up your alley than a hard piece of plastic in your mouth. ciel bleu, Saskia
  17. “If the woman who wrote this song, Katharine Lee Bates, saw this ad, she would be disgusted. And so would her life partner, Katharine Coman, with whom she lived for 25 years in what was then referred to as a ‘Boston marriage.’” Golden. ciel bleu, Saskia

  19. Well, you're going to need a new bridle after a couple hundred jumps anyway, and wingsuiting in a non-matress-sized suit can be done perfectly fine with a regular length bridle. I would've put the usd 60 towards something else, myself... OTOH a longer bridle will not hinder you in regular skydives, just makes cocking the pc a bit harder ciel bleu, Saskia
  20. I did Nationals a couple years ago with a sprained ankle. Hurt while climbing into the plane and running, so I sat in back of the plane with plenty of room and landed on my butt a few times (no wind). Proceeded to hurt my tail bone real bad while sliding in softly it seemed, on smooth grass too. So couldn't sit on my butt in the plane anymore either. Continued jumping, came in 3rd on Nationals, my ankle healed quickly enough and my tailbone hurt for over a year (!!). Moral of story: sure, you can jump if it is important enough for you ciel bleu, Saskia
  21. Opteka, waycool etc all sacrifice picture quality for bulk. the century .55 low profile lens is high quality though. Yes I mean the raynox hd 30-series. The second number is about which step-up rings are in the box, the lens is the same for hd3030, hd3032 etc. Very good lens for skydiving. ciel bleu, Saskia
  22. Yeah. Shows you watched the video real well. Some of the deceased/injured shown belonged to the top of base jumpers at the time... ciel bleu, Saskia
