  1. That. I've had I believe 3 cases where I went to the DZO with my video before showing/handing it over to the passenger. Two were because of weather -> crappy video, and one where 'my' tandem opened right in the door. I got paid for all those videos as I did my job, but the customers got rejumps + video and the originals were kept at the DZ. No idea if the TM on that one jump got paid though That video however was used in tandem seminars later on. Sidenote, I still can't believe that video of grandma almost falling out of the harness ever left the DZ, would've claimed equipment malfunction for sure on that one! ciel bleu, Saskia
  2. Oh my gosh. One of the worst tandemvideos I've ever seen... Forget the camera already and get the main out, or cameraflyer could've gone lower to catch the passenger's eye. That might not have worked in this case granted as I'm not sure the passenger was still 'there' even a little bit, but I've done it a couple times and when you pop back on level they tend to follow you with their head hey presto good bodyposition This just went on for too long, I've never seen a flatspin with drogue out before (and never hope to see one again) ciel bleu, Saskia
  3. I will laugh for five days, I'm sure Is it there? Is it sq..!?!?!? ****! ciel bleu, Saskia
  4. I only know of a couple of pranks, mostly of the the 'ready-set-go don't-go' variety. Our local rigger got dumped out on I think his last/retirement jump, that was pretty funny. I know of another prank where they lured the jumper who was going up for his 1000th jump away for a while and packed a round into his rig instead of his big square. Now this guy was trained on rounds, so that prank did go over well
  5. Quite often I see family/friends of the person I show a video for film or photograph the screen when their DVD is running. Sometimes with 'good' cameras too, not just cellphones... I'm always like, , you already *bought* the DVD + photo package, when you get home you can make all the copies you want for your friends! ciel bleu, Saskia
  6. For a Performance Design - Velocity (Expert level) - At what altitude would an average 150lb person deploy his parachute? (Mean sea level) An average 150lb jumper wouldn't be jumping a velocity But generally, anyone jumping a high-performance canopy like that opens a little bit higher than 'mandatory', because generally these type of canopies open relatively slow, you need more altitude to deal with opening issues, and oftentimes these jumpers have specialized gear that takes a bit of time to stow away (RDS). I don't think many of these jumpers open below 3000ft (above the ground, not MSL unless you're in The Netherlands... ) - What would the inflation time be? Skydivers don't usually use 'time' as a reference, but altitude. A velocity could take up to ~1000ft to open I believe, but presumably someone who jumps them can provide a more accurate answer. - At what airspeed would he be travelling (MSL)? Before or after opening? Before opening if you did a 10sec freefall or more, generally you're travelling at 120mph-ish. After opening, it depends on the wingloading (jumper + equipment weight in lbs/sqft of the canopy) and how you're flying. if you're hanging in breaks you do down relatively slow, if you're doing a high-performance turn on a canopy like a velo, you can beat 13m/s... If possible could I have the above values for a PD-Navigator (Student level) and a PD-Stiletto as well? A student would open higher, starting at 5000ft and moving down slowly, and a navigator, like most student canopies, opens fairly quick. A stiletto is for a jumper with 300-500 jumps or more, presumably this jumper is free to open at 2000-2500ft. A stiletto generally opens fairly slow, so in between the nav and the velo. ciel bleu, Saskia
  7. En ik snap dat ook nog... ciel bleu, Saskia
  8. Another thing is, while an outside cameraflyer often has a not particularly snag-free setup (ie, like mine), at least an outside cameraflyer generally gets to open high and pretty much alone. This gives you more time and room when you have problems on opening. Inside cameraflyers (generally those jumpers with action cameras and very often lower-time jumpers) open at the same height as everybody else and have more jumpers around them on opening. Giving you less time and room to deal. ciel bleu, Saskia
  9. See item 2): Because you can't cutaway your standard fullface. Which is quite big IMO, *especially* since a GoPro (all the mounts I've ever seen) falls into item 3) category. Plus the fact that *jumping* a fullface usually means you're in a FS4 team or similar, and that brings us to item 5). ciel bleu, Saskia
  10. Totally missing the point... This question is more along the lines of the Nova, you could at least have done a search on these 2 canopies ciel bleu, Saskia
  11. I can sell you a BT Pro 120 with good lines for the price of that lineset! ciel bleu, Saskia
  12. Huh, I edited a funny CRW video once, with a SOS reserve in flight starting at 1:05 click I didn't even notice there were some lines "missing" ciel bleu, Saskia
  13. Awesome... Would love to dive myself but while skydiving isn't that big a deal with my fear of heights, diving definitely IS ciel bleu, Saskia
  14. Dan Brown's Inferno and Laurell K Hamilton's Affliction. Sorta at the same time... Still waiting on Terry Pratchett's Raising Steam. So sue me ciel bleu, Saskia
  15. LOL I remember your son at all of what, nine? helping us pack for my 2nd tandem ciel bleu, Saskia
  16. I let just about anyone pack for me and have had a number of reserve rides as a result but that's on me Have also jumped a borrowed stiletto which turned out to have been packed by the jumper's son - hey it opened, if a little iffy. HIS next jump on that same rig did not, as said son had packed it again and had flipped the bag through a riser, said son was fired as packer after that Nah, if I think you pay attention to detail and are a responsible person, you can pack for me anytime. Secret tip: don't flip the bag through the lines/risers ciel bleu, Saskia
  17. Too cool. Nice pic! ciel bleu, Saskia
  18. I remember world Team 2006 when the argus was in its testing phase. One of the camera jumpers had an argus stuffed in the lead-pocket on his javelin to log some jumps, as these were of course interesting being high altitude and such. When after spending too much time at altitude the C-130s were going back down, the call was made to turn off everyone's aad. So said camerajumper fished around in his rig and pulled out the entire argus, cables and all, and started pushing the button while holding the argus in front of him. Slightly oxygen-deprived jumper next to him: "but... but... that's not the way man!!!" ciel bleu, Saskia
  19. I've been on a number of observation (for photography) flights in porters. You bet I want my aad off when sitting next to an open door camera in hand while the pilot is hauling *** to get back down for the next cycle. Funny/annoying thing was, i was not allowed to walk to the boarding area without a gear check showing a switched-on aad, and the pilot didn't want me in the plane with a switched on aad Made for a lot of furtive gear-off-gear-ups while hiding behind the plane ciel bleu, Saskia
  20. I would start with either sl or aff, doesn't really matter which, and continue from there. No tandems unless they are working tandems. Throw in some tunnel minutes maybe if you hit a snag in freefall, but otherwise, just JUMP, rinse, repeat! ciel bleu, Saskia
  21. There are now 2 of us on the planet that think full face helmets and camera's don't mix. I don't think you'll have any luck convince anyone else it is stupid. 3. All those FS flyers these days with go-pro's, we've already seen issues with just the go-pro mount (yes that little flat sticky thingy). Often skydivers seem to feel that fullface + camera is safe... At least the FF crowd usually have open face helmets which makes for an easy cutaway installation. ciel bleu, Saskia
  22. You can make your own if you are so inclined, using an N3-type wired remote. Or buy a switch ready-made: http://ultimate-switch.com/store/index.php?main_page=index&cPath=2 Or buy an adapter: http://pc-mobile.net/nikongps.htm (scroll down to 2.5mm Remote Release Adapters - N90AD) Or ask Laszlo on here, I think he sells both. ciel bleu, Saskia
  23. You're going about this the wrong way. Step 1: choose a reserve size appropriate for you Step 2: choose a main canopy size appropriate for you Step 3: choose a container that fits both these canopies + your body. Aside from packing issues, overstuffing a container can lead to opening issues both of the main and of the reserve (!!) and can lead to damage to your containers. Been there, done that, bad idea all round (and expensive having to replace bags and flaps). ciel bleu, Saskia
  24. Now I feel left out, all I got was ciel bleu, Saskia
  25. We used to do SL jumps on the same day if possible, but starting last year we're not 'allowed' to let students make their first jump after a full day of groundschool. Sleeping on it seems to make for better students
