  1. and e.g. the Super Raven III is a 7-cell-canopy. i guess this also makes a difference. (but what do i know - i am only an ignorant beginner
  2. thanks for your post. i already found a canopy size chart here on dz.com http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2110654#2110654 if the information listed in that chart is correct my Super Raven III (with dacron lines) should need nearly the same volume as a spectre 190 with spectra-lines. maybe someone has got a similar "all-manufacturer-container-comparison-chart"? that would be great! edited to add: "...with spectra-lines"
  3. thank you for your answer and your recommendations. could you please tell me what mistake i made in my calculation? thank you.
  4. yes, tom convinced/encouraged me to buy a Super Raven III - so i did (after getting a lot of input from various sources). but now i wonder if that canopy should/"must" be checked by a rigger before i use it as a main. i am looking forward to your recommendations. thank you for your efforts.
  5. You can have just as much fun in the air with a BASE canopy in your skydiving rig. If you make sure you get a proper rig, you can still do all the funky headdown stuff those modern freefly kids are doing today... what could be a proper rig for that task? PS: i bought a Super Raven III (DOM 1990) - jumped as a reserve only. thank you all for your help!
  6. sorry - i forgot to mention the reason for that: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2109414
  7. i bought a Super Raven III (DOM 1990) to be may main-canopy. it was jumped as a reserve only until now - it was removed from the last owner's container last week. would you recommend an extensive examination by a rigger? is this necessary? in my country it is obligatory to make a reserve-repack every 6 months/year... ...so i guess it must be in quite good shape. what do you think?
  8. PS: do you think my exit-weight-calculation is correct? 138 lbs. (weight) + 32 lbs. (gear, clothing, helmet,...) = 170 lbs. (exit-weight)
  9. thanks all for your input. i made my AFF last year - until now 31 skydives - will get my first canopy next week... it is a Super Raven III (DOM 1990) - wingload will be around 0.7 - you may think that i am crazy - this is the reason for my decision: http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=2109414 and now i am searching for an adequate container to put that big, docile canopy in. any suggestions? note: i am 179 cm (5'10") and 63 kg (140 lbs).
  10. what are (if there is one) the differences between a student container and a "normal" big container?
  11. well i just got some other information on the kevlar-issue from "my" local (impartial) rigger: hmmm...? PS: i hope you can understand my translation from german language into english language...
  12. thanks tom. i read in the "gear and rigging" forum, that... are those statements true? well, i really don't want to have to replace the lines of an cheap, old canopy after 60 jumps... PS: threat can be found at http://www.dropzone.com/cgi-bin/forum/gforum.cgi?post=1210958;sb=post_latest_reply;so=ASC;forum_view=forum_view_collapsed;;page=unread#unread
  13. thanks for your answer. well, there is this guy who would sell his raven (as already mentioned: 15 years old former reserve with 0 rides on it) and told me that in his opinion/experience the KEVLAR-lines are without doubt not as robust as spectra lines, but should allow 400 skydives as a main... ...untrustworthy?
  14. what would you change if you had the opportunity to go back in time and start base once again?
  15. ...so i guess you wouldn't recommend to buy a (15 years old former reserve with 0 rides on it) canopy with kevlar lines to jump it as a main if you would like to put let's say 250 skydives on it?
  16. subject: kevlar-lines... any objections, if someone (guess who! ) would maybe buy a Raven (as his first sydiving-main to train for base - blablabla ) with kevlar-lines on it? DOM 1991 - used as a reserve - no jumps.
  17. would there be a "problem" to jump a RAVEN (DOM 1991) used as a reserve (no jumps on it) with KEVLAR-LINES on it as a main (the lines are said to be in good condition...)?
  18. does anybody know a canopy called "SP-6" and could give me some information on it?
  19. i don't think i have already posted this question...?
  20. i just read that it seems that in my country (austria/europe) there is something like a "maximum allowed usage time" for canopies: 20 years. could this be possible? (is that true?) it is also mentioned that the maximum usage time is 20 years, unless the manufacturer determines something else.
  21. I beg to differ. Toggles go with the risers, since most toggles are designed for a specific riser. and risers usually go with the container?
  22. do risers, toggles, main-bag and pilot chute come with the container or the canopy? i am going to buy a used canopy and a used container (my first gear) and i don`t know what i could/should demand from the canopy- and container-seller?
  23. so the only significant difference (beside the different type of lines) between the original Raven and the Super Raven are V-tapes? what is a V-tape and what is it for? what about the bikini-slider - what difference makes this in praxi?
