  1. deleted, because it was written to be a PM to sangiro...
  2. Both features are active on the new forums, as they are being tested. There are, at this point, no plans to change them, so they'll pretty much appear in the same form they exist on Rockclimbing.com. does that mean that my "subscriptions" and "watched threads" on the_base_zone at dz.com will still be accessible in the new forum? otherwise i may want to print them as long as the_base_zone still exists...
  3. what about "watched threads" and "subscriptions"?
  4. does anyone know if there is a specific story behind this ad? (see attachment) PS: this isn't base-specific gear, is it?
  5. i found this in the troll manual which i found somewhere on the internet some time ago: does that mean that you should mark the stallpoint on the brake lines while you are flying the canopy? how is that done? you need both hands to pull both breakes, don't you?
  6. i would like to watch more (nonfatal) incident videos (on skydivingmovies.com) AND then read some discussions about the circumstances leading to those incidents (on dz.com) and how those incidents could have been prevented.
  7. hmm, could anybody answer that question? thanks.

    Zak Harness

any new experiences with the ZAK anyone could post about?
  9. hi LukeH, thank you for your reply. good to hear. i am looking forward to your description. well, i do not own any base-gear and have bought my first skydiving rig only a few weeks ago. you are 100% right. i have not even started. my profile says 42 skydives... only interested. but maybe you are just tired, hungover and bored in work.
  10. i admit: i do not know anything about rigging (as yet) - so this may be crap. sorry if so. if you want to adjust your breakes for base e.g. after some skydives with your base-canopy don't you also have to setup new eyelets on the break lines? how is that done? do you need a rigger to do this?
  11. i just read the article about deep brake settings on the basewiki. there is a passage i do not understand. i marked it as bold.
  12. what do you think about the backsurge-phenomenon that can occur with vented canopies? some say they wouldn't recommend a vented canopy to a beginner because of the risk of a backsurge.
  13. ok, i then think it maybe was another pendulator i saw in that video. is there any video where the pendulator is shown? maybe on skydivingmovies.com? have you got some pictures of the pendulator in kjerag you could post here?
  14. unfortunatelly i am not in the position to even think about joining you but could you tell us how much money and time someone should/had to invest and how cold it is on baffin island.
  15. would most probably be best for preparational purpose, wouldn't it? but i guess i will also want to make some (or some more) skydives with the track gear just for fun and therefore without all that uncomfortable stuff underneath...if possible/safe/advisable. maybe i should also contact one of the manufacturers - i guess this wouldn't be a bad idea anyway.
  16. thanks for your post. if this was all i would have to take care of then maybe i already knew more about all that stuff than i have thought.
  17. i contacted the jumper a few minutes ago and will wait until i get the reply. i am sorry that i posted the threat before i found the contact information...
  18. i found a video on youtube today which shows an incident which happend 2 years ago. i would love to hear some opinions about what most likely went wrong on that jump, but i am not sure if it is appropriate to post the link... what do you think?
  19. i almost don't know anything about tracking gear and body armour. here is my little question: maybe i will start base jumping in 2009. maybe i will buy a buy tracking pants and a tracking jacket in 2008 to make some skydives with it. i guess i would wear pretty much of body armour if i start base jumping. i do not wear body armour on my skydives. (how) will tracking gear work properly with and without the full body armour beneath it? compared with summer you will also wear much more clothes unterneath in winter, wouldn't you? is that an issue?
  20. aesthetics or function?
  21. thanks tom/Treejumps - that helped.
  22. what would you think of if some base newbie wears the trackin pants/jacket on 100 skydives before using them on base jumps? yes, a video-camera does not impove performance on a specific base jump. i did not think about a 1st base jump. i thought about the maybe fist terminal jump. do not get me wrong: i do not want to have "those cool" tracking pants/jacket - i only want to do it the right/safe way! i am the very last that would not listen to more experienced! please do not get me wrong if i do not stop asking questions: i am only curious about all that stuff and want to UNDERSTAND it. ok? thank you for your effords to help.
  23. track stuff can put you in deep sh*t. Fast. Hard. what exactly? (do you mean that track pants/jacket can put you in serious trouble or objects where you need track pants/jacket can put you in trouble?) If you can't track without tracking gear and think you can compensate your lack of skill by wearing tracking stuff you are in trouble. It will give you a wrong feeling of security. Next step could be to buy a wingsuit if you still can't track with tracking gear. i see your point, but where is the big problem? of course i agree with you that one should be (very) good at tracking before getting into base... ...but why should a base-newbie use normal pants instead of tracking gear?
