Reserve PC design: fabric to mesh ratio?
highspeeddirt replied to skydiverek's topic in Gear and Rigging
i used to work in quality control at para flite. one of the things we did during final inspection on reserves was to install the buna "n" o rings on the bag. one day i was doing just that and with little force(maybe 5-10 lbs max) the o rings BROKE.after R&D looked at it it was decided that the skinny o rings that we were using at the time were to be junked and we would use the thicker ones.if i recall this was right around the time of the GK accident. -

as twardo said DO NOT PACK unjumpable gear. back in the 60's an instructor at lakewood nj (PI) grabbed a reserve that had been field packed and closed as normal. had a 'function and deployed the reserve(or at least tried) but the lines had been daisy chainned ,and wouldnt open. he died of his injuries after landing in a swamp

you might try parachute equipment corp(paraequip.com). Warren usually will sell by the yard.

Bottom line is Para Gear has been in business for almost 50 years. If customer service as a whole is as bad as yor experience, they would not still be in business. obviously you are an isolated case. I have used para gear for over 35 years and my experience has always been 100 % positive.

used to see several that blew out the coated front panels.

englishtown 's shutdown area is fairly long actually. this accident appeared that the car was under power until impact. but given todays topend speeds, it would be in nhra's best interest to legnthen the shutdown areas(soemthing i called for 17 years ago when we were designing dragchutes ) rest in peace Scott
