    BASE Trips

I spent 5 weeks in europe in 1999. Cost was maybe $3000 each (2 of us), that included everything: plane tic, car, gas, camping, tolls, food, amsterdam, boat rides,ski-lifts,etc. We slept in the car a lot, camped when we wanted and got a hotel a few nights. Gas was one of the biggest expenses at $4 per gallon then... today who knows? We put around 5500 miles on the car, traveled through 11 countries, jumped in 6 I think. I was not going for tons of jumps, I enjoyed just travelling overseas. Favorite... all of them! Jason 570
  9. I called the Quality Inn after they forced my fiance' this morning to take the package. I left a nice message on the manager Richard's voice mail explaining the situation and he called me back within an hour and told me that it would be changed.... some sort of miscommunication this morning he said. Anyway, last year I didn't sign up for the 'taste of bs' and was sucked into it when I checked in. They explaind that it was part of the cost of the room and didn't say it was extra $$. So they handed me the t-shirts and coupons for the meal and that was that. Later when I checked out and questioned the charges they said the 'taste' was extra. I told them I was not informed of it and they said tough luck, you ate the dinner (which sucked). So you live and learn I guess. If they try to hand me a t-shirt this year I'll know something is up. By the way Richard's extension is 701, if you want to get a response. He was actually a nice guy and handled the problem quckly. Tried the Holiday Inn but was hung up on numerous times. You would think they could hire 2 more people for an hour to handle the calls. 570
  10. Stop trying to train people Leroy!! You are going to get someone hurt
  11. There is an instuctor at your DZ that BASE jumps. Why not try him?
  12. In 2003 we made a skydive into the Wright Brothers memorial to commemorate the 100th anniversary of their first flight. There were 100 jumpers Bill Booth and daughter included, and we all landed on NPS land...not sure how that happened. Here is a photo from the NPS website. http://www.nps.gov/pub_aff/firstflightcentennial/photo19.htm More photos here... You can see the memorial in the background. I'm in the U. http://www.flyingeyes.com/centennial_usa_skydive.htm Paul Fayard would know more about the permits. ABP dead?

So what's the scoop on the ABP?? Just got word that Robin H. has had it out with the other members (suprise!) and decided to shut down the web site and start over with new BOD members. Do the paying members not get a say in this?? Why does RH have the last say in this matter? Just because he owns the website address doesn't mean he can boot out all the other members does it? If this is the case I want my $100 back 570
  14. Thanks for the information as always chris, you are an assett to our comminty
  15. Gardner, just wondering if anyone who has sent the letters out from your site have received a response from anyone in the government yet. I sent mine and have not heard anything.... still waiting cya, Jason
  16. Yep, as you know 515, I did my 100th naked. My 99th jump was on the last day of 1999 and my 100th was on the first day of 2000... Brrrr Great freefall!!! What a feeling! I have not done any naked skydives (afraid of beating myself silly) but have done 5 naked BASE jumps, 1 every 100 or so! Keep the tradition alive!! Jason Naked BASE #15
  17. God help him Have you been to the Isle of Man lately??? Liz Hi Liz, went last year... had a blast. Might go back over xmas although there are not many jumpable objects on the Isle peace, Jason

    Other

I would not classify this as a BASE jump as it is not of a fixed object. I would classify this as a low altitude Skydive with a BASE Rig... I have a few tethered balloon jumps. I didn't log them as anything, not a skydive or a BASE jump. I guess I could start a new logbook for 'parachute rides' but why?? For people who really want to split straws, they could argue that someone falling off the end of a rope from a bridge and going into freefall is technically NOT a BASE JUMP because the parachutist didn't actually jump from the rope, he fell from it. And I guess it could be argued that Russel doesn't have any actual BASE JUMPS since he doesn't really jump with his legs(I still think they are BASE jumps!). Or how about handstands can they be considered a jump? I have a few of these but I still logged them as BASE jumps. I agree with LukeH about the classification of objects... anything that doesn't easily fit into the 'normal' catagories, I put it in the "O" slot. Cable cars, dams, indoor jumps, pillars, silos, smokestacks, cranes etc. Just my thoughts It's just semantics anyway! Jason
  22. anything?? I'll have to remember that! It could come in handy!! Did you use the GAP method on that line over you had on memorial day? Have fun in Europe and beware of the narcosis Manship... I don't think I will trust that crazy ass GAP method especially if YOU came up with it!! It damn near killed Yuri last weekend! Maybe you should head back to the drawing board and come up with something with a catchier name like the T.O.M. or something. You also might need to get some Canopy Landing Instruction Tom Missed you at the Lagoon!! Jason
