    Kitty Cats

#8 and #6 rock!! How do they get these pictures. Soon as I move to get the camera they go away from their cute pose. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
  2. You are absolutely right. I would be willing to bet my son could see it and not be aware of the religious aspect if he weren't tipped off. But I support Jaye and others that have said they don't want it in their house. It's SO hard to raise kids today with values and your own values at that. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
  3. I said I was going to be done. This will be it! Not all kids can critical think. With some kids it takes a lot to teach them critical thinking and some can't be taught that. Not everyone can be taught everything and some are better at it than others. I would say I should not have made that blanket statement. Again, my only point was to show why some parents might have issues and withhold this movie and other things that go against their beliefs. I can honestly see it both ways. My son is more religious than I am and he's had a bit of a rude awakening learning that I don't believe everything he believes. I would not tell him these things when he was younger. It was a decision I made because I didn’t feel he would be ready and would understand. Now he’s old enough to talk with me about it and debate with me about it. I don't think teaching your child your religious beliefs and withholding something that you feel goes directly against that is narrow minded. There are plenty of movies we won't let our son see; that doesn't make us narrow minded. It means we don't feel it is appropriate for him at this time in his life. It’s our decision to make. I don’t claim that we never make mistakes; it’s part of parenting. I do think it is narrow minded to not be willing to accept why some parents make the decision that their children won’t see this movie. We are all individuals and we all do things in our own way. Not everyone agrees. That is what makes the world go ‘round. But, if I had a young child and I felt he wasn't ready to deal with something like this movie, then he would not see it. If my child wanted to see this movie, we would rent it when it comes out so we can talk about it. If you read my other posts, we have taught him to be open minded in the case of Harry Potter and as more if this comes up we will continue to promote that. I don’t know enough about the Golden Compass to debate with him. But it is HIS CHOICE not to see it. He is basing it on what he has heard in his religious school. I may not agree with that quick decision and will talk to him again about being open minded, but, I’m not going to force him; that would be equally wrong. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
  4. I am going to leave it at this. I was merely trying to point out why some parents may have issues with it. I have had a similar talk with my son about Harry Potter after he stated it was a bad movie because of the witchcraft in it. It's for entertainment and as long as he did not have an urge to go join a Wicca group, he was safe to enjoy the movie. I would not withhold my child from seeing it. I would encourage him te explore all avenues. I was merely pointing out some other sides. It might be close-minded to not see it for the entertainment value just as it might be close-minded not to see it for the dark message it migt relay. Or might not. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
  5. I don't recall doing such. I thought I was very open that I read about the book when doing research about it. I thought I was explicit. My apologies if I was not. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
  6. I am comfortable with my beliefs enough to read the book and enev enjoy the book. The issue lies in those that have young children who ther are trying to teach their faith nd having a CHILDREN'S book come along and directly speak aganst that. There lies the issue. Talk about confusing a kid. Kids aren't equipped to handle all that. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
  7. I have stated already that I have not ever actually read the books nor have I seen the movie. I stated that I only read reviews and did some reading on what all the controversy was about. I never bashed it nor said anything along the lines that anyone who wants to read it should. Just mere curiosity. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
  8. No worries. I will probably read it. Just don't have the time between work and selling/buying houses. I was just curious... ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
  9. Well, they did say the took out direct references. But the books are very anti-Christ. Let me know what you think of the religious aspect of the book. No, I have not read nor seen the movie. Just did some reading up on it since my son came home talking about it one day. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
  10. I'm interested that so many people enjoyed it. I'm curious how the religious aspect of it was. I hear the books are thicker into the religious side of it but that the movie softened it some or made it less obvious. Anyone out there religious and liked it? Any religious folks letting/encouraging your kids to see it? ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
  11. I feel your pain. I was at 5 1/2 years until July when I made a long awaited jump. Now I'm at 5 1/2 months. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
  12. I have to say that my 11 year old would not be happy with the shuffle. He loves to flip through the songs and will listen to only one artsist days at a time. You can't do that with the shuffle. Sure you can change songs but to get to the one you want could take a while. He has the Classic 80 gig video. It's all he got for Christmas from us last year. He really likes it. If I were to get him one this year, I would get the nano though since it's so much smaller. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
  13. Just how often do the blankets and pillows get cleaned anyway? I always bring my own because I don't trust that they are clean and you just never know what people do under those blankets. Ewwwww! ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

  16. yes, how sloppy of me..."at" is a preposition, and a sentence must not end with one. thank you kind sir. I've been told this is a midwestern thing; or at least not a SW thing where I am now. I struggle to not finish my sentences with prepositions. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?

  22. Even though you asked about Monday, well it's TODAY now, right? I'm dandy. The house we wanted was sold to someone else because we can't seem to sell ours. But we may have found a nicer one. When one door closes, another opens you know. ~ Lisa ~ Do you Rigminder?
  23. I used to use QuickBooks for my business and print out all the fancy reports for my accountant. He told me to chill out and keep it simple (stupid). So now I just use Quicken for my check register and categorize it income and outcom..
