  7. If you are going to be doing RW, plan on getting kicked in the face. If you are going to be coaching or instructing...plan on getting kicked everywhere.
  8. I was watching this thread last night in "shock and awe"...I am kinda bent that he deleted his entire posts, because I am sure that there are some real gems of knowledge and enlightenment in there. Can we nominate this for one of the best threads of the year???? Great stuff, very entertaining!!!
  9. I was on NESN (New England Sports Network) for a special on risktakers. They had skydiving, BASE jumping (look at me!), Solo Rock Climbing, Extreme Skiing, Bungee Jumping, etc. They interviewed all these people and asked them why they do it. I said "why not?", but they went onto the head of the dept of Neurology from Mclean Hospital in Belmont Mass (Rehab for rich people)...he said that there are some basic physiological differences in the frontal part of the lobe of the brain between risk takers and non risk takers. It was a pretty interesting thing that he was talking about. He went on to say that there is an evolutionary value to these differences. Back in the cave man days, risktakers were probably the best hunters, etc. Kinda funny...I cant even make toast in the morning, but I can get on the first load and jump out of planes all day long!!!!
  10. I have got 2 Merlin Pro Comp suits (one for work and one for play)...both with 500 jumps on them...no problem. Amazing power in the booties. So much that you can feel your legs swing out under your canopy...awesome suits. They both look fine...no rips, tears or blow outs.
  11. I would NOT dry clean your rig...they use chemicals to do so(causing premature wearing of the material in your rig). I have heard of people using a car wash to clean their rigs...another bad idea. Most car washes use recycled water...thus having oil, battery acid, etc. in their water. I have done a few rigs and I usually use woolite in a tub. Let it sit. Scrub it with a soft brush and watch the dirt come out. Lather, Rinse, and Repeat. Its amazing how much crap comes out of a rig. I havent done the washing machine deally but I am sure that it works, but if you want to delicatly wash something (your silk g-strings), you dont put them in the washing machine do you? Just a thought.
  12. Screw all that bad juju-good juju stuff. I jump a canopy *velocity* that someone hooked themselves in on. I feel amazing under that canopy. landing in the center of the peas every time. I actually feel some sort of weird connection with it. When I am done jumping it, I am going to cut it up and stuff it into a teddy bear and give it to his mom for a keepsake. I dont buy into all that stuff.
  13. I do it with all different types of canopies...it can be a bit trickier with newer ZP, but once you get some practice...it sorts it out quite nicely. I just make sure that the tail is really tight around the lines and that I havent wrapped any lines in the tail wrapping process. If it is a smaller canopy or you happen to be taller, I wrap the tail, then press the air out of it while I have it over my shoulder....then wrap the tail more. It keeps everything together nicely.
  14. Another tip to prevent a possible lineover:when you have the canopy all cocooned and laying on the floor. It should look like a mushroom or a V shape, right??? Well, get all the air out of it and get your d-bag layed out and ready to go. Instead of folding the material under to get the canopy sized for the bag...fold the excess material of the sides of the V shape on top of canopy itself. In essence you are now bringing the lines out from the front of the nose and around towards the back. Then, peak into the folds that you made and then you gently pull out the topskin of the canopy. Then wrap that around towards the nose or the part of the canopy that is lying on the ground. Make sense??? Its kinda difficult to describe. What I see a lot of people doing is that they are bringing the topskin around to the tailwraps and bringing the lines with it...potentially causing a lineover. Hope that helps.
  15. 433 USdollars out of Miami...I may be able to swing that. Yo, punky...where are the pictures from the Search????
  16. either way, i would still love to head down there!!! I have a pretty busy summer lined up but I may be able to sort out getting down there. I have to look at plane tickets, etc.
  17. If you want to set up a camp or something this summer...I am so in. Pete is heading to Japan at somepoint this summer, but maybe we could work something out. I would love to go. Good to jump at a new place with some new friends. Isnt it past your bedtime...or are you still up drinking that white lightning stuff???
  18. Bastard...hey, by the way...when am I going to be coming down to Panama?
  19. I would also be VERY carefully putting the nose deep into the back of the canopy, especially if it is a bigger size. You can get a lineover very easily. Think about it...if you push the nose in deep...where do the lines go? The lines wrap around the front of the nose...potentially causing a lineover. Yet again, another PD packing tip.
  20. PD WILL tell you that rolling the nose WILL give you off heading openings...ask them. I have seen John Leblanc and Scott Miller give multiple seminars on packing. If this were a question about a Safire, I wouldnt say anything about this, but this is for a PD canopy...so I go with what I know and what PD has told me.
  21. If you talk to PD they will tell you not to roll the nose. The only thing that rolling the nose will do is give you an offheading opening. Think of it logistically, what are the chances of the rolls unraveling equally...NONE. I have 100s of jumps on Sabres. Never rolled the nose once, never spanked either. Roll the tail up nice and tight and make sure that the slider is completely slid down to the attatchment points of the lines to the canopy and that it is quartered properly so it can catch as much air as it can when it opens. Should be no problems. Good luck.
