  1. Yeah. Maybe the cutter should also explode a little, helping push those flaps open in case the loop jams against the grommets... I wanna see Cypres vs Power Tool!
  2. Thank you. I guess I forgot that stall is a derivative of speed. I will need to think more about it.
  3. Someone wants to borrow my rig, and he'll load the 300 ft canopy at about .47. How bad an idea is it, any anticipated problems, is this an issue at all? Ideally he would need DBS even deeper than they are set for me at .7, right? Figure he has a 180, the canopy has got to react much slower to any input from him I guess?
  4. Damn, I was in a bad pain after my encounter with the hardness of concrete walls, and in all those days of pain they gave me a whole total of one little shot that did little to relieve it. Sounds like America is THE country to get broken in.
  5. For all you not-only-English speakers out here, can you state the spelling of the expression "pilot chute" in the other languages you speak, as well as the literal translation thereof back into English? I'll chime in with the Russian version: "meduza" or, "jellyfish." French: "l'extracteur" or, "extractor" More?

Trust me, you will be happy if you do!!! Plus, you can get a really good HDTV for less than $6,000. Hewlett-Packard makes a 50" plasma HDTV for $2,999.99. Not to mention, Best Buy has the same TV on sale if you buy it off their website. I'd rather buy another rig.
  7. I am a freelance translator with as much work available as I please, so even 16-hour work days are not unheard of if I am feeling greedy. Pays for all this shiny new gear, too.
  8. I am involved in translation of the sitcom, and as if Tim Allen's antics weren't bad enough, all I have to work with are a bunch of VHS tapes, no subtitles or anything. Is there any possibility you could send me the subtitles for Season 3 episodes (just yank them off the DVDs, they'll be SRT files, one per each episode)? (Not that I can't eventually understand what the characters are saying, but I certainly could do with less replaying.)
  9. Is there anybody on here who owns a Season 3 DVD set of the Home Improvement show? Or anyone who knows anybody who does? I'll owe you a jump if you do.
  10. Eh, YMMV I guess. I usually just give my rigger, who is affiliated with this company, a call and he brings everything I need right to the DZ, no hassle whatsoever. Atmogear / Paraavis have a lot of essentials in stock, and they are situated within Moscow. Stupino has a nice little gear shop, though admittedly with some of the most outrageous prices I've ever seen. Having never been to Kolomna, I'd still venture a guess it's not exactly short on gear stockage if you ask the right people. Hey, congratulations on finishing AFF, too!
  11. I once had to pack a Pilot 140 to open guaranteed-quickly on a jump from 2000 ft into dead air. The person was dead set on doing the jump. So after unsuccessfully trying to talk them out of it, I opened their rig to find a nice and slow psychopack inside, rolled my eyes, and pro-packed it with the slider half-collapsed (I pulled the strings halfway out, then tucked them back in the channel so they wouldn't catch on any lines), and I also intentionally pushed the tail open when I was bagging the canopy. Told them to make a 5-second delay, and off they went. I think I was more nervous than the person doing the jump. The canopy snivelled for a short while but inflated very quickly and nicely at what I'd guess was above 1000 ft. Oh, I also put a 38" ZP PC on that rig, and left more slack than usual when stowing the lines (omitted last two stows). Don't do that on normal jumps, though.
  12. Rare? Tell me what you want, I'll tell you who to call. (Then you'll meet in a dark alley in the wee hour of the night and exchange sealed packages, constantly looking back—that's part of any good deal) The only "rare" skydiving paraphernalia in Russia are specific-to-manufacturer skydiving parts like reserve pilot chutes and freebags.
  13. (speaking for iPods any other than Video) You can play video on any iPod, even the grayscale ones. The drawback is that it'll have to be raw video, meaning that each minute will take up about 40-50mb, so, admittedly, it's not very practical or convenient. Very cool, though.
  14. Er, I actually don't, but the fact I am able to if I wanted makes me feel all warm and fuzzy. Us nerds get off that way, y'know.
  15. Play video? Run Doom? Quake? Duke Nukem 3D? Back up as calculator / conversion tool? Run almost any Linux application within reason with only a minimal bit of tweaking?
  16. There are the unfortunate people reveling blissfully in their ignorance of the hardships they have to endure with iTunes and Apple firmware, and then there are Rockbox users who enjoy iPods the way they were meant to be enjoyed.
  17. stills video The student was making his first jump at this Ukranian dropzone. After an apparently uneventful freefall, the reserve pin was pulled by RSL on main canopy deployment due to gear defect or misrigging. Initially a biplane, the two canopies soon moved side-by-side, at which point the instructor repeatedly told the student on radio to cut away, which he never did. Worse yet, he popped a toggle off each canopy and tried to "flare" on landing. End result: one twisted ankle on one confused guy. He got up and wondered if it was normal that he had two parachutes.
  18. Thanks. My (only) concern is what happens if the grippy sole catches on the ground during the plane-out, and won't wearing them do more harm than good?
  19. What, there are several models available? This one: Super Fly GTX.
  20. Any reason not to wear them on skydiving jumps? Any experiences / stories to tell? Thanks.
  21. Makes me wonder... an umpteen hundred jumps F-111 canopy that a demo reserve probably is, won't it be rather different in flight and landing characteristics from a 0-20 jump canopy that a real reserve actually is?
  22. How much altitude is typically eaten on a go-and-throw slider-up jump before you have a fully pressurized canopy?
  23. I thought it would be funny to bring up the second oldest thread in the Bonfire forum.
