  1. I believe Fergs psycho packs his pilot. He only does wingsuit jumps so I imagine the openings should be good. He may see this thread and post.
  2. I've done a jump with a sprained knee before. landed fine. But think about what might happen if you do have a bad landing... will that considerably extend your time out?
  3. Digital. According to the Summary page on the files I got on the CD it was a Sony DCR-PC9E.
  4. I had hand stills done on my first jump. Turned out well.
  5. Wow fergs. I've often though about bird strikes whilst watching eagles fly around our DZ. But I thought it would more likely happen under canopy, never thought of a birdman hitting one.
  6. I have put about 120 jumps onto my Sabre 170 (original sabre). Everyone of those I have psycho packed, and so far I haven't been slammed once. I don't find psycho packing any slower than pro packing.
  7. Personally I didn't think about it. Just OUT IN GO! Next thing I knew I was falling. I found the more you think about the harder it gets.
  8. Whats the rush? I have about 150 jumps, I am 180lb out the door and I am flying a Sabre 170. I have heard of people of my experience level getting on to 150's and 135's. I have done some canopy courses with a Scott Miller course coming up. I have stood up every landing, and can land cross wind. I was considering test flying a 150 late last year but was busy with competitions, and I don't want to try a new canopy during a comp. After having to take a couple of months off over summer I feel I am now not current enough to downsize just yet, plus I have been doing the Autumn league. I also want to learn as much canopy flight as I can with a larger canopy, as they are more forgiving. Some see downsizing as a right of passage.
  9. I have psycho packed a friend's 190 Spectre a few times. I didn't roll the nose or any other special treatement. He has said the openings have been great.
  10. I earned "Spike" after hitting a barbed wire fence on a night jump.
  11. Its a cyclic argument to say that a shorter cycle means that there are more chances for a mistake or problem to be detected. A shorter cycle also means there are more chances for a mistake or problem to be created too.
  12. I don't know where you are located, but in Australia it would actually be illegal to wear one of these helmets whilst riding a bike. I haven't personally looked at the factory diver, but most skydiving helmets have a hard shell and a soft liner. Might feel comfy but any energy from a blow is still going to be transferred to the head. Bike helmets have a layer of expanded polystyrene to absorb the energy of an impact. They are built to standards, such as absorbing all the energy from a 12mph impact. Skydiving helmets have NO standards.

  14. Australia is currently 6 months, and they have been talks about extending it to 12 months.
  15. I remember my first few jumps. The TA is guiding me down whilst I am thinking wow I am getting low. Why hasn't he told me to flare yet??? The ground is big!!! Where is the flare???? And then the batons would go down and I would flare and most of the time had nice soft landings. Michael Vaughn recently held a seminar at Picton after jumping on Billvon's downsizing chart. During that he talked about "sight pictures". As you build experience you will store more "sight pictures" about how high you are, how fast you are going and when you need to flare. Have a chat to Vaughny sometime at Picton. He is always enthusiastic about talking to people about canopy flight and an excellent teacher. I went through AFF on the same gear you are on, I was on 240's the whole time though. Then I went from the 240 to my Sabre 170. What a nervous jump. My first pack job (would it open) and my first jump on a sport canopy. The opening was great and the landing was even better, on target and a nice soft touch down.
  16. I was similar in the Otter. Once I started to move to the door and climb out I was fine. The skyvan on the other hand... standing on the edge of that big back door always gave me a big fat shot of adrenalin.
  17. A young paratrooper was recounting his first jump to a friend. "There I was at the door of the plane, already to go.. then I just froze, I couldn't move. My Sergeant was screaming at me to jump. He yelled 'If you don't jump I'll f**k you up the arse'." His friend then asked "Did you jump?" He replied "A little at first"
  18. Didn't anyone provide a reason why it was a hard pull or test the pull strength required on the ground?
  19. Why is it tall people seem to be afraid of heights? I'm only 5'9 and I love heights.
  20. http://today.reuters.co.uk/news/newsArticle.aspx?type=golfNews&storyID=URI:urn:newsml:reuters.com:20060330:MTFH44292_2006-03-30_17-10-36_5875002:1 Ok so who was it?
  21. I watched the entire landing, I was one of the people that came to assist you. The downwinder was a bad idea, and according to my observations you flared too high. That was just my observation, I am no where near an instructor, but as soon as I watched you flare at that height I cringed and then watched you pull your legs up instead of getting ready to PLR made me cringe further. There are some excellent instructors at that DZ that can help with your canopy skills.
  22. Here I am after my first night jump. http://users.on.net/~traviswood/IMG_3902%20(Medium).JPG Hit a barbed wired fence landing off DZ.
