  1. They forgot a couple of classics: http://www.dirtybutton.com/videos/780-happy-fun-ball/ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RTrAVpK9blw "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. I thought Don Kellner jumped in Pennsylvania? He does. Mark just doesn't think anyone skydives outside of Florida. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  3. My 500th was getting thrown off from front float on a stalling PAC. Also memorable. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  4. keep mouth shut and is make hi-res copy of license in case get a red mark on real one. They says was many Nazis go to Argentina, looks like more went to UK and starts DZs. Slater http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Godwin's_law Post 369, after considerable derailing. Just about the expected timing. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  5. Hah, I'm glad to see that Corn Hole will be coming back next year even with the (generally) better weather in Arizona. Sounds like it was a successful test event this year. :-D
  6. The first point of the skydive. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  7. What can brown do for you? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  8. Question for you. If he is testing you, is this the kind of person you want to have a relationship with? If he isn't testing you, is this noticeable behavioral switcheroo with no apparent explanation or willingness to acknowledge it something you want to put up with in a partner? If the answer to either or both questions is "no" it doesn't really matter what his intentions are, does it? "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  9. You can encourage her to keep coming out with you. You can point out that every jump she walks away from is an opportunity to go up and do it again, whether or not it was "perfect." There are many many stories (probably many at your own dropzone) of skydivers who had to push through a lot of early fear and performance anxiety and performance issues to keep going - hopefully someone more seasoned can share their experience with her. But ultimately, it's got to be her call as to whether this is something she wants to continue with. It's not for everyone, and it's an expensive, risky sport - you really do need to be pretty into it to be willing to accept both of those things. She may or may not be. 10. To be perfectly accurate, there's no "100 jump" requirement in the US. There is a 200 jump recommendation in the SIM, but it's not a BSR. Any camera rules or requirements around minimum jump numbers are only individual dropzone rules and based on my observations, seem to vary widely from DZ to DZ. 11. From the Skydive Chicago Facebook page (and yes, there is a photo of the team holding the award): https://www.facebook.com/SkydiveChicago https://www.facebook.com/SkydiveChicago/photos/pcb.10152720054624455/10152720045519455/?type=1&theater "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. 12. The guy who posted this, for one. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  13. To flip it on its head, do you have data (or even multiple anecdotes) about the outcomes of PD's required inspections? "Planned obsolescence" implies that all (or even most) PD reserves that come back for inspection at 40 packs/25 rides are automatically certified as un-airworthy. 14. Which we know you've done before (and not just for your AFF students). Definitely gives more opportunity for a possible good outcome rather than hoping for line stretch in enough time. 15. Good on you for stacking the odds in your favor, but don't kid yourself that you're doing anything more than that. I tell my family and friends who ask about AADs, and what they do for me, that "It takes me from a guarantee of death to a possibility of survival." "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  16. Depends on a lot of factors. Are brakes stowed? What is the terrain like? Soft dirt could be very different from hard asphalt. Is the jumper slumped or hanging straight? A jumper at Skydance had an AAD fire in June of last year and landed unconscious in a freshly plowed field under a 1:1 reserve. He broke his back, had to have surgery and a halo brace, but made a full recovery (also facial lacerations and lost some teeth). 17. I thought I was wrong once. Turns out I was mistaken. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  18. A recent blog post indicates that they're hoping for better speed in the cooler hours overnight. But they may also have weather to contend with so who knows... 19. My observation is that SF Bay tends to be pretty conservative on that. Some of it may be the close proximity of the walls in the 12-foot tunnels... students can bash into them pretty quickly. You guys are spoiled with your 14-footer up there. Even with my 4-way team, which is very tunnel-experienced, we sometimes have to beg for enough air to do verticals safely. 20. If you're any kind of book nerd, go to Powell's Books. Deschutes Brewery's Public House has some cool beers you won't get elsewhere, and above-average grub, too (the Brewery Pretzel is amazeballs). I haven't spent any non-work time there in a while, though, so I'm not as up on the fun stuff other than good restaurants on an expense account. 21. Yup. And 10-way also has the Godfrog Award, which is awesome. My BF and I joined a pickup 10-way team at 2012 Nationals, and the team's entire goal was to have as much fun as possible and win the Godfrog. We did and we won it that year (and got most of the team back together in 2013 so we could choose the next winners). Unfortunately, we had to leave before the awards ceremony in 2012, but we did end up on the plaque and got to take pics with it in 2013. It's a very cool piece of skydiving history. 22. Whats the technical difference? Because what Amanda does looks pretty artistic to me. Oh and 10 way sounds like a blast! Ive never heard of anyone building a ten way team before. Does anyone still do it? Yeah, it's not saying that freestyle isn't artistic, it's more to distinguish artistic freefly from VFS. They're different, both in the style of flying and that artistic freefly is teams of two with a third team member on video, where freestyle is one flyer, one camera person. I'm definitely not the one to explain that (remember, you're in the RW forum, so you're - at least in my case - talking to someone who only belly flies!). 23. As mentioned above, check out the SCM for all the details because there's soooo much more to learn. But the short answers are... "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  24. Go to the USPA site and download the Skydivers Competition Manual. More than you ever wanted to know is in there! "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
  25. Nope. Expires today. "There is only one basic human right, the right to do as you damn well please. And with it comes the only basic human duty, the duty to take the consequences." -P.J. O'Rourke
