  1. Exim is more robust in the way it scales and how it handles upon thousands of users and mailer plugins. For what you want, sendmail is the way to go. PhreeZone has a point about the configuration; however, newer installs default to only accepting connections from localhost so you're somewhat safe after you start it for the first time. Before you do anything, I would familiarize yourself with compiling software on your box and understanding what modules you need and don't need. Putting a linux/unix/windows box on the net and not knowing what services it's running, why they're running, and how to properly secure them is somewhat dangerous. Forget spamming for a moment, if you're exploited, you could be use as a part of distributed denial of service attacks which will get you kicked off your network. Don't take the above as a reason not to do it, just think and plan before you actually plug in to the net with it up and running. ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2
  2. Just keep in mind.. any 'popular' methods (i.e. ones avail for download) are likely to be detected by spam crawlers. It's already proven that out of work programmers are 'for hire' to the spammers so keep that in mind. One of the tricks I do I store the ASCII char values of the email address in an array, then call a function to construct the email address out of the array. Sometimes I'll even store it in reverse and read the array right to left for another layer. Iota ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2
  3. Web Server - Apache + Mod SSL(SSL if you want encrypted Pages. Email Server - Exim is best, most difficult to setup, Sendmail is 'okay', easiest to setup. DNS Server - Bind, but you probably won't be running it--let your domain registrar do it for you. Although it makes it easier, a static IP is not required. Check out http://www.dyndns.org for information on dynamic DNS. You can setup your domain name to CNAME or redirct to your dynamic dns entry. As for the guides, there's plenty. Do a search on 'How-to' + for more details. ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2
  4. I had the option for my own office, but choose not to. Instead, I choose to create an open air concept for my IT team.(All in one room, no cubicles) The result is everyone knows what everyone is doing (work wise) and we don't have to spend time on the phone/getting up just to coordinate activities. ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2
  5. A few of us in math class had HP Calculators with built-in infared. You could load on app on there to use it as a remote control, which we did. Needless to say, we could control the TVs in the room from 30+ feet away and unless you knew that these calculators were capable of it--you were screwed trying to figure out why the tv is coming on, changing channels and increasing volume--'all on it's own' ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2

  8. There's a few songs in that flash.. Care to be more specific which song you want to know and what's being displayed in the flash? The first 'song' after the intro is Rob Zombie 's Superbeast if that's what you're referring to. ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2

  10. Yummy--unagi is pretty tastey, more so than anago.(Salt water) If you make it it to Vegas, there's a world famous sushi place at the hardrock called Nobu with awsome sushi. The original is in NY and it a pain to get in, but hard rock is completely doable. ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2
  11. That makes common sense; however, think of a person at a bar. The person knows his limit, exceeds his limit, gets in a car wreck--It's the bar's fault (legally)--They shouldn't have served him that many drinks. I'd argue the same could be said for the DZ by providing out of date and potentionally dangerous equipment. Don't get me wrong, I'm not taking a side, just playing devil's advocate with what case law has shown us thus far. I'd like to think the poll isn't as black and white as we're trying to make it. Example: Assuming you're doing a tandem with an instructor and something 'bad' happens and it's later determined that the instructor was on drugs and an employee of the DZ knew it, but did nothing to prevent that employee from working. The sport of skydiving aside, that's down right negligence and the injuries weren't as a result of the sport per se, but the DZ's decision to allow that employee to work so he/she could generate revenue. I'm not implying anyting, other than I personally wouldn't want to vote without knowing all the facts surrounding the case. Iota ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2
  12. It's okay.. you're not the first person to have that happen. Check this out: http://www.pets.ca/forum/archive/index.php/t-6576.html Looks like peanut butter is the trick. Cheers, Iota ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2

  14. Direct Connect Client/Networks are where more and more things are going these days. (do a google search for DC++ or Direct Connect). You'll be able to get a list of public hubs easily, but you need to ask around and get in on a private hub. The network isn't superior, the technology isn't superior (basic P2P xfers), just the concept. Direct Connect hubs are similar to the old BBS days in the sense they care about quality and if you don't share files, they will kick you out. Score a good private hub and you'll be set. ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2
  15. No I don't, but the businessman inside me just can't not think about it. If your average song was 5 mins, and she's able to do at least 10 dances an hour @ $20/dance.. That's $200/hr which is some serious coinage and all I'm trying to do is maximize my 'investment'. ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2
  16. I don't know if I have a favorite per se, but both Closer and Reptile sound pretty good to me--especially if you look at getting the most 'bang for the buck'. Both reptile and closer are over 6 mins, reptile is almost 7. Obviously your money goes further with one of those than say something by ludacris which is probably 4 mins. ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2
  17. In Texas, you get a ticket and a nice fine, and then pay more money for Defensive Driving to get it removed--if you're elgible. Texas has even gotten electronic where they swipe your DL in a PocketPC based portable terminal which radios back to whever to schedule your appearance. You're then asked to sign an electronic pad to promise to appear on the date provided to you (electronically) and then the officer prints out your ticket on thermal paper--all while being pulled over on the side of the road. I know this, because I got one Just after my last skydive this month *sigh*--Hadn't had one in 10.5 yrs. Anyhow, if you don't want to pay the fine, DD costs, etc, you give a Traffic lawyer $100 and he'll basically make it go away--which is what I did/am in the process of doing. ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2

  20. Not an insttructor either, but My friend and I went on our first tandem a few weeks back--his girl friend came to watch--but didn't jump. Instructor (turns out not ours) first comes up to my friend--finds out that the girl is his gf and says, "Damn man, you win the lottery ? How'd you end up with a girl this pretty?" Then he proceeds to ask the girl, "Hey, if he doesn't come back, you wanna go for barbeque?" I guess he could tell we were the joking type--we didn't take offense and actually busted out laughing. This was all while we were doing our paperwork mindyou. When we were suiting up, the videographer did a shot of my friend's back with the bright red DANGER label and said, "Hey man... there's no parachute back here. Did you use the discount coupon or something?" Cheers, Iota ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2
  21. Similar question, when you do travel (even domestically), you carry-on your rig I assume? If you check it, TSA can open/inspect your bags in their entirety without you being present.
  22. A few friends and I always wanted to skydive, so we decided to finally do it on 9/4/04 and after researching various places, we chose Spaceland. As we walked in we were greated by a staff member, Mykel, who was very friendly and helpfull to us with explaining everything and getting us going in the right direction. Matt took up upstairs and went over the satefy instructions; While doing so, he told us the 'minimums' for a successfull skydive, as well as the proper things we should try to be thinking about as if we weren't going tandem, as these skills would help us if we choose to continue on to their student program. My TI, Brian, was extermely helpfull. From helping me get into my suit, going through safety checks on the ground, talking about safety and 'the plan' again just before boarding the plane, and talking about 'the plan again' in the plane (reviewing) as well talking (telling me) every inspection point he's verifying and checking as he's hookoing my harness up to his. After we were under canopy, again, he told me how he was checking the canopy, why it was important, then proceeded to take me on a nice ride down to the ground. The overall experience was exciting and somewhat humerous at times but at no time were safety issues joked about nor did they take the 'sit back and let me do my job' approach. They explained everyting, which to me is _very_ important. I was so happy with my experience, my friends and I went back 2 days later for our 2nd tandem and now we plan on enrolling in their student training program.
  23. Thanks for all the help guys. I think between the SIM, the videos, and your input I have a decent baseline to go against. This email was geared towards more the safety aspect of the schooling--i.e. making sure they're sufficientlly covering all the safety techniquies required to deal with various situations you may encounter. I care less about the 'style' of teaching, as long as they're able to convey the information I need to know in order to be safe while going through this process. Learning safety procedures while doing it (freefalling) isn't exactly an option given the nature of the sport so I wanted to make sure the instructor covered 'everything' in class. And now, after reading the SIM, various emails, etc.. I think I have a pretty good idea what 'everything' is as far as what should be covered. (not necessarily how and why yet--but that's what school is for) Thanks again, Iota ----- 2+2=5 For Large Values Of 2
  24. Greetings all, Let me fist say, I'm extemely new to the sport, but so far I'm loving it. I've made two tandem's, with a 3rd upcoming (since it'll be over 30 days) followed by a Solo Training Program at my dropzone. I'm a big fan of research, which is why I ended up here--reading your posts on past experiences which have been helpful and interesting to say the least. Now that I'm looking into doing the solo program and working towards my A license, I'd like to know a method to judge the quality of my instruction. Other than what insturctors teach you during a tandem skydive (i.e. arch back, pelvis out, etc) what are other topics that are 100% essential to performing a safe skydive and being prepared for various situations that you may encounter. Is there an instructor syllabus online (maybe something mandated by uspa)that I can download/review and used for comparison to the instruction that I'm receiving. Lastly, I know you have to trust the people and drop zone you're training at, and so far, these guys have been top notch; however, it never hurts to be too prepared especially considering the consequences. Unfortunately, just because someone has 5,000+ jumps and may instinctly know how to overcome obstacles, doesn't mean they're an overwhelmingly good teacher. Hopefully you understand where I'm coming from and what I'm looking for. Thanks for your help in advance -Iota
