  1. As long as they are leaving me be they are fun to watch. But the little devils can be darn scary! An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  2. It depends on how many are in the group. 2 tandems with video will fit on the C-206. So it is possible. I will be there the 9th and 10th, you know for your 2nd and 3rd jumps. You'll have fun Kip and Teresa run a nice place and the view at altitude is real beautiful! An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  3. Greenie=Moderator They all have their sign in name in Green, get it? An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  4. There is already a thread about this. It may be so old as to not be in the first 2 or 3 pages in this forum. A grennie can probably find it faster than I and link it after they lock this one. Not that this is a bad thread to discuss they just don't need multiple threads for the same subject. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  5. ? I am missing how this has any thing to do with the Officer Violating the Oath he took (to the President, County and Unit and its officers who are appointed over him) and abandoning the men and women he was leading as they headed to the plane to Iraq? Is this the source of his info that lead him to his decision or is it a supporting document for you? An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  6. As I am relativly new to tandems among my peers (900 tandems today) my experirnce may not be the best example. I have only had 1 side spin and got out of it by not giving up and as I was right side low not using the drogue. I only had around 120 tandems when it happened and have not had one since. What is the side spin to good tandem jump ratio? I do want to be ready. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  7. John, Your holding back again, that can't be good for your BP. I think that the legal authorization should stand, but I have nor the funds or resources to get a lawyer to challenge the FAA hand book. Back on subject. This is not a US jump but if it was in the special provisions (28 to 32 is usually how many I get for each request) there is a very detailed description of what the FAA thinks a "hook turn" is. If the British authorities have similar paper work this may all be a moot discussion. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  8. I started wearing Vans as a kid in the 80's. I wore them Skate Board'n and BMX'n. When I got on a Demo Team we found all black Vans for CHEAP and we all got a pair. We did look at other shoes but the Vans happened to be the Cheapest at the time. I buy my Shoes from a discount outlet as they wear out pretty quick, Running shoes only last 4 to 6 months max and the Jumping foot wear lasts about 6 to 8 months. I may buy other brands when the dicsount outlet starts caring them in my size (draw back of a high arch, wide foot) , but till then I will stick with a shoe I have been wearing for 30 years. I still have a set (Moms keep crazy shit some times) of Vans that I got in '84. They are still sold today as "Old School", whe nthe neigborhood kids see me and point out my "Old School" shoes I tell the mthey are wrong they are "Original School"
  9. You can equate it to a Grand Jury. The Court Marshal will be the Trial. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  10. Although you are very legally correct John, the FAA (some FAA individual in DC actually) issued a hand book to their FSDO's saying USPA License and PRO rating or no approval for Demo's. I never saw the book but a FSDO in VA read quotesfrom it over the Phone to me while I was hagling with him about a Demo jump. It meant not having a 500 jump "D" License holder who hadn't gotten his PRO rating paid for yet (not a USPA issue, Army budget issue). I even called the FAA in DC and asked USPA to step in. I can not say what USPA may or may not have done but the FAA in DC was not budging. So back to the original topic. The HP landing at those numbers and experience and the DZ dimensions is a bad Idea. I would like to hear the reasons those who think it is OK and voted so, but have not posted why. Is it because it is a bad idea, but posting differently to fan the flames of discussion is fun too? 11. OK Wendy I will help out. Is this a CHICKENHawk? I am glad I am not the Platoon Sergeant who has to pick up this guys mess. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  12. Thanks Mojo and Phree. I asked since it happens in my office all the time. I.E. I was told about the Tandem Fatality in Ohio while in Ohio (1) and then my first day back an e-mail (2) that claimed to be the "first to know", 2 safety guys from the Post Safty office called (3,4) and all these have to be logged in and then I get to sift it all out and combine it and then dismiss it as it did not involve any Military Jumpers or our post. This is just the example don't spin the thread off topic any further (yeah I am guilty here). I would like to know more about the ground fires in student rigs (yes?), as we have six and they are all (but 2) currently doing student work. An Instructors first concern is student safety. 13. Cool, I am sure that as new as the system is the reporting to the manufacturer is probably accurate. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  14. Are we re-reporting any of these issues? Since we have several sources of info now we could be doubleing the amount of misfires by reporting them twice. We have had 6 on our team for 3 years with out issue. C-130 jumps, C-17 Jumps, Tandem, Student Staticline and AFF rigs, Up-jumper/Instructor rigs (135 zippy canopies) and Demonstrator Rigs. We jump from C-130's, C-17's, CH-47's, UH-60's and all known Jump aircraft in the US Skydiving Arena. Our rigs have around 200 jumps each (6 set ups in all) and we have had no issue. IS there food for thought that we may be doing some thing wrong in the handling? (I discount the World Team issue for the "Normal" weekend skydiver) An Instructors first concern is student safety. 15. Actually I beg to differ, I would much rather have a candidate that understands this is not just another skydive for him or her and not something they should take lightly and risk anothers life for their "Coolness factor". 16. Must be party-en' real hard, you missed the attach button. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  17. The strong incident stated some thing about the lower back band being misplaced as a contributing and direct cause of the incident. Read this months skydiving. If you think Strong condones this, what is in print today contradicts it. Who cares about what was "Cool" yesterday if it could kill some one today? The fact is 2 incidents happened due to the harness not being set in the proper position and tightened correctly. The fact is USPA, PIA, RWS and Strong Ent. all came out with a "T-I's and DZ's, fix this now statement". "Cool" video should not include wanton disregard for life and willingly endangering a person with no experience in our sport. You want to take an experienced (licensed) jumper up on a Tandem and try and kill them and get lucky and not, have fun. Ted Strong takes this so serious, the new "Y" back design is being jumped by him, trying to induce the same fatal issues. The originator of the design was so serious, he didn't wait for some one to come out with the design he did it and sent it to the manufacturer. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  18. But hasn't a lot of "they" not gone back becuase "they" have found some thing better else where? My wife works with several folks who came to Nashville after Katrina, and they have had nothing good to say about Nagin and the work he has/hasn't done. 19. But, you don't have to wear under wear under the NBC Suit. So yes or no? Me, no. Like Chuck said, its an economics things. Why I am answering Dan's poll on this excapes me right now. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  20. Like many have said if issued the GSG-9's are great as well as the Oakley's. If I hadto BUY my boots I would buy the Bates tha tare simular in look as the GSG-9 or the 5.11's that are very popular with out SF guys here on Campbell. Go to the US Cavalry Store web page and look into the boots they carry. No need to go to any other source for Military or Police foot wear. An Instructors first concern is student safety. 21. Thats the idea! Small ways and bigger ways, either sequencial or blots. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  22. Cool deal! I jump there a littel myself (unfortunatly I will be else where that weekend), you'll have fun! Ask kip to fly likehe is avoiding "charlie" during the climb out and a little scenic tour on the way up. After you like your jump and decide to come back again book for the 9th and 10th and I will see ya then! An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  23. I am not local but would volunteer to measure you, two or three times. In texas wasn't there a few ladies who have hot bod suits? They could help. You could even talk to Bev as you do measurments at the DZ or the house then send it to the dealer (if you don't go direct that is). An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  24. If you paid for a service and a product it is not unreasonable to expect it to be done. Send it back and have the company fix the mistake. Inform the mthey should pay the shipping as the work was not up to standard the first time. An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
  25. But Katie and Buddy are good shots, can ya zig zag well on the hog? I was figuring I was safe here in KY, but they got friends man, sneaky friends. Chuck, tell 'em it was a joke, I didn't mean any of it!Please!!! An Instructors first concern is student safety. So, start being safe, first!!!
