  1. It was Sara and Steve Curtis and Ty Losey from Arizona Arsenal. Joe and I were filming. Last night we found out that an edit of the commercial is going to air in the second quarter of the Super Bowl. For those that just can't wait, you can see it at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iuvoSw1TiJ8 Here are some other edits. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JpwiqBCSN10 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I-XPZH3OoOI http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ealq_Tamdho
  2. Yes. Thanks Greg. The visuals (especially the confetti) are absolutely amazing. But when I see you and Joe on the camera credits, for some silly reason, I fully expect to be wowwed. And have yet to be disappointed.
  3. For those who are curious we used an ARRI 235, Phantom, Red, ARRI IIC and a hand crank ARRI IIC to get the look and feel the band wanted. We pulled in Chris Burket to direct for the ground shots. The stop motion shots of the objects was done by taking 100 still shots over a several hour period while the objects were moved inches at a time. For ground shots of the band and lead singer we shot at 12 frames per second while the song was played at half speed. In editing the sequence uses 24 fps so it gives a cool look to their movement since they are moving fast but everything is in synch with the song. Joe Jennings used the Phantom camera to capture the super slow motion shots. It was filmed at 1000 fps at 720P. The shot of Ty in the recliner with a bathrobe and beer in hand is comical. His shot of the confetti being released is stunning. The most fun for me was filming the piano. The exit was a bit scary as the 2X6 boards used to roll it out of the Skyvan caught the relative wind and flew right past us. The first third of the dive it was surreal watching the piano tumble. Then it started to fall very slow so I got on my back underneath the piano and filmed up at it while it was falling. The visual of looking up at a piano dancing in the sun as it hurtled to the ground will be forever etched in my brain. The lead singer Ryan Weisberger learned how to skydive for the shoot. For the close up shots of him I used an Ultra Prime 8R lens which is a super wide angle lens that does not have the typical fisheye look of many super wide lenses. Hope you guys enjoy it as much as we had fun working on it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5ZxFCU2hEbA&feature=channel_video_title
  4. B.J. Worth did that stunt. I know that for sure. Was he being helped by Malnuit? Perhaps there were multiple takes, or multiple jumpers? No disrespect to BJ Worth, who is rightfully a legend in skydiving, but Zoo is one of the world's most experienced BASE jumpers, and if I were looking for someone to make a stunt BASE jump, I'd probably pick him first. Here is a link to a post by BJ about the stunt. http://www.afn.org/skydive/skydive/usenet/1995/nov/1499.html
  5. I just wanted to say thanks for everybody's help. Eule pointed us in the right direction and AlexCrowley got us the files we needed. Internet access is not as convenient as usual otherwise I would have responded sooner to say thank you again to everyone.
  6. Thanks so much. Another user found them and should be able to get them to me today. Blue Skies Greg
  7. I am hoping that someone in the DZ.com family is familiar with David Gilmore or might have access to some of his songs. Katarina and Adrian's family are looking for two songs to play at his service. Apparently one of them was on a live DVD that he did. The songs were "Lullaby" and then music from "The Pearl Fisher". If anyone has these or knows where to find them and could get them to us in the next day or two they would be ever so thankful. I looked on iTunes and the obvious but had no luck. You can PM me or email me at gasson at mac dot com. PS - Adrian's family is reading the posts on the condolences thread for Adrian and is very touched by the response.

  9. Looks a lot like Oliver Furrer shot over Eloy (probably mid to late 90's). Most likely Marcus Heggli or Knut Krecker camera flying.
  10. If Kebe and I really wanted to go we would have found a way to get to Brazil. The main reason I chose not to go was that Brazil was chosen for the 2000 world cup and dropped the ball so Skydive AZ hosted it. The 300 way was originally planned for Brazil and it too was moved to Skydive AZ. As it turned out, a few weeks before the 2004 meet in Brazil it was cancelled and another DZ in Brazil was chosen at the last minute. I had an opportunity to go to Singapore the month before the meet on a well paid gig. Looking back, I am glad I went to Singapore instead of the competition.
  11. In the past I used Sorenson-3. You might want to experiment with other codecs, key frame settings, quality settings, limit data rate and tweak other settings, but after a day of doing so I came to the conclusion that I am just going to use H.264 from now on. I was able to reduce the file sizes but the quality greatly diminished compared to H.264. Eventually people will upgrade to the new version of Quicktime and the more people start using it the more it will catch on.
  12. I am using Final Cut Pro but I have a guess as to what is happening. It is probably defaulting to the H.264 codec. You could export it using MPEG-4 and it would most likely work on your Windows machine or upgrade your version of Quicktime on your Windows machine.
  13. Thought this might be a video people can learn from and be more aware for future jumps. Never assume you are alone with your friends. http://www.skydivingstunts.com/dzdotcom This happened last weekend and the pilot saw me right before I saw him. Brandon was on the ground trying to radio and got no response. Suzy our pilot also tried contacting him and also got no response. He was flying directly over the DZ about 2000 feet. I am guessing that he was flying from Phoenix to Tucson using Eloy as a midpoint. I noticed him visually as he started to bank to avoid our group.
  14. I vote yes for being on the list but in a new category. And this discussion opens a new can of worms, I now realize I'm not sure how to classify plane to plane jumps when one lands in the same or another plane that one has just jumped out of.
  15. I have to admit, I am really dissapointed to hear that he had a secret static line and harness under his shirt. I really thought he was really jumping without being conected to anything. Bummer. I've lost a little respect for Greg Gasson, he should have been up front about how he performed the stunt. I am a little confused by your statement saying "he should have been up front about how he performed the stunt". In April 1994 Parachutist did an article on how the jump was done. In 1997 Brent Finley posted the details I had written to Parachutist for the April 94 article on rec.skydiving. When anyone asks me how I did it I tell them the truth. Every TV show I have been on I have always explained how I did it, I never had control over how they edited my statements. Sorry I lost your respect. Peace.....
  16. There is a method of filtering spam called Bayesian filtering. For those who are interested in how it works check out http://www.paulgraham.com/spam.html introducing random words into emails is an attempt to evade the filters. A quick blurb about it here http://archives.neohapsis.com/archives/fulldisclosure/2004-01/0351.html I get so much spam I have had to set up procmail filters on my linux server. I have found that the scripts found at http://www.spambouncer.org/ works the best for me in filtering spam. Since March 30 it has blocked 16511 spam emails.
  17. On rare occasion I will use a .6 but most of the time I shoot with no wide angle at all. In competition I never used one and got comments over the years that my video always had a different look to it. It really has a distinct effect when doing eagles. More distance is needed from the subject so it takes a little longer to complete but it has a nice dynamic look to it. The obvious trade off is if you get more distance from your subject it is more forgiving than a wide angle. The opposite is true that the closer you are the more critical framing and image stability become.
  18. Yes, Betsey, LouD and Greg are gorgeous. Even though Greg is white hot, he is also soooo nice. He told me that I couldn't freefly with my rig because it is still sooooo huge on me with no support from the lateral and leg straps. He then took time to search for a container size that would fit me someday when I manage to downsize and get a custom fitting rig. Even the smallest that we found (Javelin Odyssey A-14) was still too big, but I will have to have one custom-made. Greg even volunteered to shoot my RW jumps, but I couldn't bring myself to accept the offer. (I know that he'd rather shoot FF!) DaGimp was so awesome and shot several of my jumps instead. Alana ~ Awwww...I love that pic of us three, too, even though Skymama and I were both sleepy. You are such a sweetheart, Alana! Thanks for posting those, as well as all the others. I didn't bring a camera, but I'm burning a CD with everyone's posted pics.
  19. Actually Amy and Curtis took the Gold and did a great job. Nationals was a lot of fun. The organization did an excellent job and the artistic judging was excellent. Peace......
  20. Um....do you have anyone who isn't quite so good so jumping with them won't be so embarrassing? Those guys will make me nervous! In early 1994 I was getting bored with skydiving and thinking of getting out of the sport. Then Omar shows up with Olav and started freeflying at Skydive AZ. I remember watching their training videos and thinking this was the future of skydiving. At the time I never even dreamed that I would get to jump much with Omar much less be his teammate. For the 94-95 Holiday Boogie I bought myself 30 coach jumps with Olav. It turned out to be the best investment of my skydiving career. I understand what it is like to be nervous jumping with more experienced skydivers. For those of you who might be intimidated my advice is don't be. We want to jump with anybody who wants to have fun. As long as the dive is safe we don't expect anything beyond your abilities. No matter how far you get in skydiving there is always someone who can outdo you at something. The key is to go to them and learn from them. As long as you can register for the boogie I'll jump with you. Video on every jump for everyone. If you don't want anyone to see the video just ask and I'll respect your wishes. For those who want a chance to be on the DZ.com boogie video this is one way to do it. Betsy will be keeping track of who wants to jump with us. Motto for boogie - Have packed rig, will jump with any DZ.commer. Peace
  21. Greetings to all from sunny (and on fire) Arizona. For those of you planning on coming out to the Holiday Boogie, please know that Betsy has been working/blackmailing diligently since the last boogie to give you all a better boogie than last year. Airspeed, Omar and myself are going to be jumping as much as possible with you all. I just ordered 2 more rigs today so I'll have 4 complete sets of gear and planning on jumping nonstop for 12 days. Freefly, RW, hybrids, skysurf, whatever will make the boogie memorable for you. In the near future I'll give Betsy some guidelines for gear for those interested in freeflying/hybrids. Don't worry about experience just safety. Omar and I will most likely work more with the freefliers and Airspeed with RWers. Later in the boogie we want to organize some hybrids depending on experience levels. Betsy is lining up gear manufacturers for those of you interested in demoing new gear. Nightly seminars, campfire chats, contests, prizes and more. If you have any suggestions now is the time..... Besty will be reading all replies (possible prize here and now, hint, hint (and no this is not the pixies secret)) Yes, I am the idiot hanging from his rig in "Good Stuff". No I did not shoot JR. Yes, I am Besty's biotch/videoman/goodmanfriday. Please do not ask her to see the pictures she is blackmailing me with.
