  1. no no no... this is going to be fun, I promise. -SPACE-
  2. This. is. adorable. I am SO excited for this discussion. I have a degree in aviation as well as meteorology. Please... show me an example, I will explain the phenomenon in the the example.
  3. ^Opinion. Please state an actual issue. No one is saying Fukushima is a joke, or not a problem. ^Opinion, vague reference. Risk and reward, but this is a different issue. Accurate statement #1^ ^Ambiguous. please specify the amount of radiation content of the water. blatant alarmist and un-educated opinion. Please show peer reviewed sources for "insane" and "thousands of years" and "extinction"
  4. Space is the cutest thing ever. Not social AT ALL with strangers, but super friendly with my GF and I. The only thing she is REALLY good at is hiding. She got accidentally locked out for a week once while we were on vacation. The people taking care of her had no idea because she always just hides anyway. We got home about 4 days after she got locked out and when she did not come greet us as we walked in the door we knew she was gone. I found her three days later dehydrated and hiding under a deck four houses away. She had lost an entire pound. This is also late summer in Colorado, plenty of food and water around in the suburbs. We have a video of her drinking non stop for 90 seconds when she got home. Steve is an appropriate for a stingray. Freshies are pretty awesome. Easy to take care of with a big tank, VERY active, cruising around the tank and doing flips. They are supposed to grow to over two feet in diameter over a few years, but these guys have not grown more than a half inch in three months. This tank will probably be big enough for them for at least another year. They eat anything that they can fit in their mouth. -SPACE-
  5. I have two cats, two stingrays, and a SilverRed Giant Arrowana. The black cat, Risky (Short for *), is a fighter jet and bad ass. She takes care of my other, short bus cat, SpaceCatONE. Both are rescue cats. Space is developmentally disabled from being sickly as a kitten, limited blood flow to brain from sinus infections galore. (no shit) and can't really take care of herself completely. She poops in her box, and eats her food but that is about it. Risky cleans her whole body and butt every day. Space is pretty overweight, and sleeps standing up sometimes. She can't jump. It's pretty hilarious to have a cat that can't cat. I also have a 150 gallon fish tank with two 7" stingrays and a giant arrowana. Building a 650gallon "L" tank. -SPACE-
  6. I thought the same thing too. The passenger almost got the ultimate selfie capturing his own death. Nice going knucklehead. On the other hand, it's not like he had anything else he could contribute to the situation. There is no doubt in my mind that (If I was not in either front seat) I would have done the same thing, and I sure as shit would have done a better job of filming the complete touchdown. -SPACE-
  7. I may have lost track of a negative in there, but I think I understand.
  8. I read that as lowering the orbital [speed] from super to geosynchronous as it hits the target slot, but I could *totally* be wrong. Using higher impulse, lower thrust engines I think it would take time, as in the burn would be a large portion of the orbit track. (?) Im guessing that to put something into a 90,000 X 250 km orbit takes about the same energy as putting something into a stable. 36,000km orbit.(?) Precision is a big deal, as is zeroing inclination for geostationary, with a high inclination the two can be done at the same time with less impulse. (?) (?)=I failed maths four times and HATE/LOVE Tsiolkovsky.
  9. It's hopeless, trust me. The disconnect is not necessarily in flawed critical thinking on their part, but a deep seeded need to believe everything happens for a reason, or is controlled by someone else, "they". The drive to discuss it is (my) need to have an exercise in critical thinking, and these people provide an endless, free, and marginally intelligent workbook that gives feedback and changes with real time current events. -SPACE-
  10. Is there a similar debunking out there for the chemtrail alarmists? Thanks. I did not read the whole thing, but chemtrails are easy and there are many more like this: http://contrailscience.com/how-to-debunk-chemtrails/ -SPACE-
  11. http://www.forbes.com/sites/timworstall/2013/08/10/the-fukushima-radiation-leak-is-equal-to-76-million-bananas/ the internet..... it just.... keeps.... going.... please let me sleep. please
  12. Found it. http://www.spacenews.com/article/launch-report/38959spacex-delivers-thaicom-6-satellite-to-orbit -SPACE-
  13. I remember reading that the target orbit was gong to be a supersynchronous orbit. Can't find it now though. But I don't understand the benefit of a 90k apogee transfer orbit either. hehe... 295x90,000 is a hell of a roller coaster. count me in.
  14. http://www.spacex.com/webcast/ yay!
  15. It's very trendy to believe something 'different'. Hoaxers, truthers, trailers, they are all the same. http://www.scientificamerican.com/article.cfm?id=why-people-believe-conspiracy-theoies
  16. http://www.southernfriedscience.com/?p=15903 A good breakdown of the main fallacies running around the blagoblog from the Fukushima disaster and radiation spread. Sadly, hoaxers, alarmists, and the like do not recognize or respond to logic and science.
  17. A friend of mine works for Atlas (the company operating this DL747) and flies the 747 and the dreamlifter, and when I saw this this morning I called him right away. It was not him, sadly/thankfully but he knows the guys. Crazy!!!
  18. That guy was an idiot. Nice that he did it over water though. -SPACE-
  19. I have built many of these. Pendulum rope jump. Can be rigged to have minimal "impact force", and this one looks to have a CFF (Calibrated fall-factor) of about 0.2-0.1. I probably would not do this particular stunt, but it would not be extremely difficult to hold on. I would guess around 3g max. Way easier than some 'Mr. Bills'.
  20. Holy crap. I'll be 30 next year but this thread made me feel like a kid. Thanks guys. -SPACE-
  21. Totes Jelly. You are awesome. Blackwater is terrifying. Rays are the best. -SPACE-
  22. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIYZvr3ueGw Found an old video of hers. She is also afraid of rainbows (It's not really her, of course, maybe her twin)
