  1. I'm very sorry for your loss. That's a good long run. It's clear that he was well loved. -SPACE-
  2. By far my favorite kind of people. "Man sues NASA for failing to investigate “alien life” on Mars " http://www.iflscience.com/space/man-sues-nasa-failing-investigate-“alien-life”-mars -SPACE-
  3. "What anti-vacc and creationists have in common" LA Times http://www.latimes.com/opinion/opinion-la/la-ol-antivaccination-and-antievolution-believers-make-common-cause-20140123,0,6948631.story#axzz2rhryOwQF
  4. A "preconceived notion" is an opinion formed beforehand without adequate evidence. As stated and verified extensively throughout this thread, The position that you are arguing against is the result of centuries of science and progression. """""It is not what the man of science believes that distinguishes him, but how and why he believes it. His beliefs are tentative, not dogmatic; they are based on evidence, not on authority or intuition."""""" -Bertrand Russell -SPACE-
  5. Is there a Godwin variation that applies whenever someone tries to win an argument by mentioning corporations There should be. The broad use of "Reductio ad Hitlerum" commonly called Godwin's law does not necessarily have to reference Hitler, only something universally or figuratively vilified. -SPACE-
  6. I am happily impressed with this thread and poll. Like I said earlier poll says 85-90% vaccinate themselves/children. That is nearly acceptable herd immunization levels for most of the bad ones. I feel like the thread ran its course, these are the same points that go through all similar threads on reddit, 4chan, Facebook, etc. The thread was polarized as they always are. I wonder if anyone changed their minds. Some people choose to believe different theories, like they have some superior insight with the ability to deny the accuracy of one of the best scientific accomplishments human technology has produced. Some 'free thinkers' attach themselves to radical, non-conformist ideas simply because they are radical or non conformist and label the rest of us sheeple. I spend some too much of my time communicating science to psuedoscientists, conspiracy theorists, and the like. Mostly things relevant to my education in Aerospace and Meteorology (Chemtrails, Apollo, HAARP, etc). It's a great mind exercise and a great way to practice critical thought and scientific publication understanding. I spend time on this vaccine one because it really is the only one that actually matters for the future of the 'herd'. The rest is just just fun. This is not a matter of opinion, this is not a matter of asking your god damned priest. -SPACE-
  7. On what basis do you say this? What is your training as a clinician or immunologist? Or are you just "going with your gut" (that whole truthiness thing)? You can be exposed to hepatitis in a number of ways. Sure, sex is a common one and one hopes that a baby would not be exposed that way. But if that baby is later in an accident and needs a blood transfusion, it's too late then to vaccinate and wait for a decent antibody titer to develop before giving the transfusion. Anyway, if the clinical and epidemiological evidence indicates no increased risk giving the vaccine early, then what is the advantage of waiting? Wouldn't that be kind of awkward: "Well Suzie, you're starting to develop physically and boys are getting interested in you, so maybe it's time to get those shots before you start fucking?" The drug company gets paid the same if the patient is 6 months or 16 years. What do you mean by "farce"? That it doesn't work? And the "inventor" (who is that? Many people worked on that vaccine) admits it? So the clinical trials were faked, and the FDA played along, just so a drug company could make money selling a product they knew did not work? Perhaps you can provide some links or evidence to back up such a claim. Clinical trials are overseen by the FDA and in most cases the NIH. Are you saying they are all in cahoots to deceive the public? Do you use any dietary supplements? Take megavitamins? Don Good post.
  8. That makes total sense, I suppose I over-estimated the alpha capabilities of a challenger or similar jets. And I also apologize for my seemingly psychopathic lack of empathy toward this crash and thus for the crew and the deceased pilot. That is not the case. The loss of life is an awful thing, no matter how it comes about. I'm saying that the video and event is very very dramatic, full of awe, as air crashes usually are. I see things like the recent mid-air collision of two formation Cessna jump planes as equally or even more 'awesome'/aweful, and it's just bonus points that no one was seriously hurt. I assume everyone else would also prefer that these events never took place, but I do not think I am alone in my fascination with giant crashes and accidents. On a similar note, what is the motivation to publish such footage for public viewing? It provides a dialogue for interested people (like me) but it gives no beneficial return for the airport. It's CCTV images undoubtably maintained for accident investigation and/or security. I was a small part of my friends' mid-air investigation as a direct eyewitness with experiential knowledge of aircraft involved, and there was footage taken by the civilian passengers in the glider he was towing. The FAA took it, copied it, then gave it back. Pretty moving, 'intense' images and audio that the passengers then sold to good morning america, or some show like it along with their interview. I don't see an airport selling that. Edit: I thought Rifle was a bit closer than that. Doing Demos into an Aspen golf course we take off from Rifle, and it feels like a 60 min drive. And Google maps claims 72 min airport to airport. Even more of a reason to skip a sketchy landing. -SPACE-
  9. I'll agree to disagree on semantics, my intention was not to offend anyone. And you're right, never been there in anything faster than a Pitts. I have a lot of respect to the crews who put up with passenger or carrier pressure to get there or anywhere in the mountains. I was not aware the high tailwind landings are illegal though, that makes the decision even worse. AND after a go around. Screw approach, rollout will be LONG. Av safety is quoting 33kts with 20kt shear. http://aviation-safety.net/database/record.php?id=20140105-1 Also, forgive my ignorance, but are larger aircraft legally prohibited from landing north? I could have sworn I've seen twin turboprops coming in over the city, right pattern. Not that that would be a great alternative with 33kt guesting winds and shear.
  10. No disrespect intended toward family of the fatality, of course, or anyone who has lost a person to aviation. I have lost a best friend, two very close friends, and several other friends to aviation accidents. I watched my best friend of 20 years, neighbor throughout growing up, die in a giant fireball over my head. I knew he was flying in the area and after seeing the explosion my first thought was "holy crap I bet Alex got an awesome view of that"... it only took me a few more seconds to realize it was from his fuel tank. The fact that my brother was burned and scattered throughout a few acres does not make the explosion any less awesome.
  11. the norm at aspen is to land on the southbound runway, there is terrain south that makes an approach from the south more interesting. It is possible to land northbound but its a bit complicated. I have landed and departed a few times there and it's not that bad in a small, slow airplane. Fast movers like this crash aircraft usually try to land with the published approaches. Land south, depart north. -SPACE-
  12. Good old PIO takes another victim. (combined with a semi-technical visual approach and a fun gusting tailwind) Landing at Aspen is not very sketchy, but with wind and a fast plane I bet it gets fun. http://aspenjournalism.org/2014/01/21/aspen-airport-releases-video-of-jan-5-jet-crash/
  13. http://www.historyofvaccines.org/content/timelines/all Cool interactive timeline of all the evil things vaccines have done.
  14. Crude is the word I would use for your laymen understanding of the vaccine manufacture process and medicine in general, but that's just an observation. It's more complicated than what you illustrated there, but just for entertainments sake let's leave it at that. So You can (kinda) recognize some of the ingredients and tools used to make vaccines. Do you want a cookie? You should look into the manufacturing process of pretty much anything else that people consume and get back to us. -SPACE-
  15. Did you READ any of the CDC article you quickly linked thinking they supported your argument? this is an ambiguous appeal to emotion. You should read and UNDERSTAND what you are reading before you cherry-pick out-of-context excerpts to use as your evidence. http://www.cdc.gov/vaccines/vac-gen/additives.htm -SPACE-
  16. As a non-expert that has done nothing but browse the reptilian/conspiracy section of the internet you are actually NOT entitled to your opinion, and technically speaking, neither am I. But I'm not voicing an opinion, I am communicating the conclusions of centuries of vaccine research, statistics, and implementation. https://theconversation.com/no-youre-not-entitled-to-your-opinion-9978 -SPACE-
  17. Also, If the participants vaccinate like they vote here, according to our impressively accurate poll, we are about on the threshold of herd immunity for most of the really crappy diseases. Measles will probably outbreak. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herd_immunity -SPACE-
  18. Not that young? Shit shit shit... you're right. But I think I'm still a few years away from being a dirty old man. Wiki says she was born in '72. Jenny probably was hot, but I was not a TV kid. and I was 9 years old in '94. holy crap just googled "jenny mccarthy video" and Xvideo came up. May have watched it. Not bad, but looks like the 80s. -SPACE-
  19. From a standpoint of population health-safety and benefit, it does not matter much if you are a shit-fuck chemtrailer/chemtard, apollo hoaxer, anti-fluoride water moron, HAARPist, truther, etc. "believing" those things does no one else any real harm and even provides entertainment for people who base their decisions on science, logic and reality. But vaccine-autism, or any blanket anti-vaccine people are a problem, their decision to NOT vaccinate, their protests and pseudoscience cause other weak minded, easily manipulated people to do the same. This decrease herd immunity, and increases the risk of deadly diseases killing more people. Some friends of mine have a child who recently had a slight reaction to a vaccine and had a funny interaction: Wife: "this sucks" (hugs husband as they look over their child) Husband: (Hugs back) "Yeah... know what really sucks? Polio" The child had a slightly elevated fever for a day or two, and was awake crying, but it went away with zero lasting effects, other than, you know, being FUCKING IMMUNE FROM MULTIPLE GROTESQUE, DEBILITATING, DEADLY DISEASES. Jenny hates you. Oh... burn... You mean that prostitute that was on tv, like, before I was born? -SPACE-

  21. Would you wear manpris outside of the DZ enviroment without needing a fru fru drink with an umbrella in it,I exclusively drink cosmos. I carry a few packets in my wallet at all times. -SPACE-
  22. Whoa... I wear manpris all the time, on and off the DZ. Shorts with a parachute is 10x worse. I think shorts with leg straps on make guys look like idiots, like daisy dukes* with hairy white legs. gross. Also, RW suits add 40 years to a persons perceived age. What looks REALLY stupid though? posing for pictures in a wing suit with the wings extended. I've done it myself, it makes a great picture for whuffos, but it's extra lame for everyone else. *I did not know where the term daisy dukes came from. Damn that show is old. -SPACE-
  23. we could get into the semantics of this, but lets just assume you are blindly relying on context and get on with it. ionizing radiation is outside the visible spectrum, very true. However, it is easily detectable through many methods and easy to obtain instruments. Buy yourself a dosimeter, go do some testing of your own and with just the normal, harmless background radiation you will freak yourself out enough and add a new layer to your tinfoil hat. (Or your being sarcastic and I'm feeding the troll) -SPACE-
