    Nature Video

Of course it's Skydiving-related.. How many times have we all had these issues. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HNMq8XS4LhE&feature=player_embedded _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  2. This guy looks French... _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  3. Shah - Maybe this will give you some material for your ISS dreams... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XVIMJ2PL_8Y&feature=player_embedded _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  4. Astronaut Ron Garan reacts to the news that his return to Earth has been delayed. Also a pretty good video tour of the ISS. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uk9ptueTDwY&feature=player_embedded _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  5. Never underestimate ignorance. I'll try it out at my store.
  6. Their website says: "10 percent discount to all military personnel who are active, reserve, retired or disabled veterans and their family members, with a valid, government-issued military ID card. All other military veterans will receive the discount on the Memorial Day, Fourth of July and Veterans Day weekends." I'm just an uninjured vet with an Honorable Discharge. Probably should have stepped on that land mine when I had the chance...
  7. Does Lowe's really have this ??? Damn, ever since I bought my house, I've been there a dozen times each weekend. Think they'll give me a retroactive discount ? _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  8. The visiting vehicles, Shuttle, ATV (Verene, Kepler) have used their engines to boost the ISS orbit. The Zvesta Russian ISS module has thrusters which can be refueled by visiting Russian Progress ships. I believe that the Progress can also use its engine directly for reboost.
  9. A wonderful video, put together by Pam's friend, Eli, was shown at her memorial service this weekend. Seeing Pam in these photos makes me very sad that I'll not see her again on some DZ somewhere. She always brought such brightness to anyplace she was. Fly Free, Pam. Eli's video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WJYGV27_auk
  10. Maybe I don't understand completely, but if you were willing to testify, why did the authorities allow the driver to plead to a lesser charge? Glad you escaped without greater injuries. Kevin K.
  11. Definitely. I hope they throw the book at him. Just to illustrate that there are no shortage of dicks out there: In the accident in AZ, in which one was killed and another severely injured (tandem bike), a witness to the accident was caught by police going through the backpacks of the victims while EMTs were working to save their lives. That's certainly someone who I would like to introduce to friends at the DZ after hours.
  12. In the last 2 weeks, I have lost two friends from our skydiving community in bicycle wrecks, one in Arizona and one in Florida. Both were hit from behind while riding in proper bike lanes. I know this stuff happens, but please, be aware of these fragile humans sharing the roadway. I'm sure that everyone who rides a bicycle on the road has many close calls, and it is a matter of inches that determine the difference between a scary story and a funeral. I get a chill now every time I pass a bike on the road. Please be careful. Kevin K.
  13. Very sad news. Condolences to Karen and all his friends at DeLand. So sad after almost the same accident happening to Pam Pangburn last week. Kevin K.
  14. Blue Skies, Pam. We will miss that smile that could light up an entire DZ.
  15. Kind of eerie listening to an interview with Eli, long after his death. He was certainly a talented guy, and a sad loss to our sport. p.s. Is it true that the show will be changing its name to, "Skydive Chicago Radio" ? Maybe just my impression from recent episodes, but it seems that in the past, SDR made more of an effort to cover events at more than one DZ. 16. So, you're not from a Scottish family?
  17. You see some weird shit on your first tandem, don't ya ? _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?

    China Travel

I will be traveling to China in September for an international airshow. Since my fellow jumpers on DZ.com seem to be an endless source of knowledge and experience in world affairs, I'm looking for some general travel advice, as well as sights / activities in the Bejing and Laiwu City (Shandong Prov.) areas. Cheers, Kevin K.
  20. Take a break, and have a nice tooterfish sandwich.
  21. In Reply To "Swooping isn't safe and people shouldn't do it....and I'm a hypocrite." ---------------- Below is a theory that I would like to advance. It is sort of a thought exercise, and not only do I expect a good deal of disagreement, I'm expecting a bit of hatred: Some Swoopers feel that their prestige comes from not only the skill with which they can swoop, but from the fact they they routinely survive what is generally considered to be the deadliest form of skydiving. Each new fatality raises the "coolness factor" of swooping and therefore the "perceived coolness" of each surviving swooper. In a sort of passive-aggressive reaction to a new fatality, this type of person openly mourns the death of his fellow swooper, while secretly harboring a reaction of, "Yes. There's another one that I'm better than". Swooping cannot be made safe. The entire point of it is to do something that can be brutally fatal if not done successfully. It is done in an environment that cannot be controlled 100% by the operator, so even a theoretically "perfect" swooper WILL have an accident eventually. If you play Russian Roulette in the classic way, spinning the chamber for each trigger pull, it is statistically possible go many rounds successfully, just as its possible to have a coin toss come up "heads" 100 times in a row. But if you try it, you will see that it is unlikely. Kevin Keenan _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  22. The last I heard, Roton was mounted as a static display at Mojave airport. It was probably just ahead of its time. _____________________________________ Dude, you are so awesome... Can I be on your ash jump ?
  23. Jeez, I hope I'm not divulging Secret info, but if they come after me, I'll tell them that you leaked it. You must mean: Boeing / CST-100 Sierra Nevada / Dream Chaser Orbital Sciences / Prometheus Excalibur / Almaz Blue Origin /Unnamed SpaceX / Dragon Several of these have received NASA funds under the Commercial Crew Development Program (CCDev-2) to develop crewed spacecraft. (All public knowledge, by the way. )
