  1. Saturday jump # 41, I was jumping a Demo Sabre2 190, that didnt have velcro to stow the access brake lines, the rigger packing stowed them where the toggles stow but on opening the damn things would come out. I go up to do a three way. We break off at 5,000 Pull by 4,000. Pretty high thank goodness because i have a bad habit of grabbing my toggles once my canopy is open and unstowing them quikly. Well i guess this time i unstowed them to fast and the brake line got stuck around my finger, well this was not one of the things I lerned to deal with in AFF I started thinking. So I started thinking how i was going to fix this! Well i gave it a yank and it just kept getting tighter. Now i have two unstowed brakes one flying at full glide, until i pull it down to half brakes and the other stuck in half brakes. Now at this point im scared out of my mind because I cant get my finger out with one hand, I attempted to bring both toggles to my chest to fly straight and use both hands to free my finger but that doesnt work! So i have to free up my other hand on the working toggle(Not thinking to put the toggle in my teeth or anything I just let it back up like an idiot.) So now im in a spin pretty fast for me because this is only my 5th jump on non student gear!! somewhere around 2800 ft I get my finger out (Which is now Blue) and by 2,500 did my canopy control check and everything was ok, nice flying canopy, My finger is fine but damn I was pretty freaked out. Now I know that if I was at 2800 ft or lower with a hook knife I would have cut the break line and landed with a rear riser flare and, Keeping in mind that I am jumping a 190 that i am not loading highly at all. I would probably be at a 1:1 on a 150 so I would have been fine with rear risers landing which I practice all the time. Now my question is that when I got my license a few People told me that I have no need for a hook knife because chances are I would cut the wrong lines or something, that is why students are not allowed them. What do you feel about this. When did you start jumping with a hook knife. Are there any real disadvantages of not having one? Having one?Do you think there would be any other option then cutting the brake line if I could not free my finger? So After this weekend I am investing in a knife!!! And I will be watching my toggles better when unstowing them Thanks for the replies!! ~Shelly
  2. And the Pats are going to win!!!! Yeahhh Baby. Sorry couldn't control myself This is my favorite time of year!!! GO PATS WOOHOO!!! ~Shelly
  3. My Boyfriend is taking his AFF class tonight!! oh well it will be all good (I hope). After a year of begging him to come out he decides on Friday the 13th to take his class, i dont know what that boy was thinking we should be going out reeking havic tonight, not sitting in a classroom!! ~Shelly
  4. I have had panic attacks in the past but never have experienced them in freefall. I had a hard pull once and i could feel my heart pounding through my chest but i could breath easily.Once i was under canopy i could hardly breath and i felt like i was being suffocated. The funny thing was that was one of my best tipy toe landings on my feet right next to the x. I think it is just a miss conception that you cant breath in freefall when you have anxiety, most of the people who say they cant breath in freefall are probably just having a case of sensory overload and has no real idea of what is going on, not to say that someone cant have a asthma attack or somthing like that, im not sure. ~Shelly
  5. That is a good point. A night out on the town can cost me close to 70 bucks on just drinks. I usually drink martinies because if i drank regular mixed drinks, or beer it would take me forever to get drunk. I say stay a light weight you will spend a lot less that way, just drink a little slower, or make mixed drinks with little alcohol. ~Shelly
  6. So does anyone know of any good cheap health insurance plans that include skydiving related injuries? My insurance ended in March, I Haven't been jumping much since then because of the whole health insurance thing. These companies want to rape you for all of your worth. I have no children just myself, and just for emergency care it would cost me close to 200 bucks a month. If im paying 200 bucks a month for health insurance, then i probably wont be able to skydive anyways. ~Shelly
  7. What about Cryptograms? Those can be fun. Here are some Literary ones. http://books.mirror.org/litcrypt/ ~Shelly
  8. Quote Michelle, what about a rodeo flocking dive for your 100 with video and maybe stills?! That sounds like fun.Is that a promise yeah that is the best idea i have herd of yet. Anyway, see you at jumptown I will be there the whole weekend of the 100-way hopefully will have my gear set up so I can jump my butt off and not spend all of my cash on rentals. Unfortunately I wont be there this weekend I have a wedding. Thanks Nick, see you soon. Shelly ~Shelly
  9. Nice picture! I cant wait until that is me! I used to jump horses foe a few years when I was younger Believe me I can ride well (bareback is my fav.) As far as being female and not to heavy that is why he invited me cause he thought it would work great. I guess I will just have to wait until my #'s get up there!!! (unless anyone here wants to take me) Just kidding, I trust my friend and if he says he would feel more comfortable with someone with 100 jumps or more then i respect him for being extra cautious. I guess I better get jumping so I can fly with the birds Thanks everyone for the replies. Shelly ~Shelly
  10. Thats what I was thinking, But the people at my DZ had a different opinion ~Shelly
  11. I was wondering How many jumps should the rider have to do a birdman rodeo? 100 maybe? I was invited on one last weekend but I only have 32 jumps (which My friend was not aware of when he asked me) so it was decided that I should not do one yet and I was promised I could go when I hit 100 jumps. I cant want to try it. it looks like so much fun.I will hopefully have 100 jumps by the end of the summer so I can try it out! So what would you guys say for a jump # minimum, and what is the least amount of jumps you have had for your passengers? Thanks ~Shelly
  12. Realizing that today is friday, and I might get to Jump my gear for the first time tomorrow Hopefully I will owe Beer tomorrow! Fingers crossed. Shelly ~Shelly

  14. What is it with these doctors, not treating shit. One of my good friends had a nasty landings this weekend , she fractured a vertebrate and her knee is a complete mess. All kinds of swelling she cant move it and even with morphine she feels the pain. She was told by the doctors that her knee isnt life threatening and they wont treat it. They told her to wait until she can go see another doctor. Im soo pissed it is friday this happened on saturday and they still haven't started doing anything about her knee.I feel so bad If you are in that much pain and you think you might have a torn your meniscus I say go to another doctor and get yourself checked out for a second opinion ASAP, you don't want to do any permanent damage. I hope everything works out for you and it is just a sprain ~Shelly ~Shelly

  16. I live just a few minutes north of Boston. When are you planing on jumping exactly? My sister and I go out there almost every weekend! ~Shelly
  17. I got a similar e-mail from a frend but the picture was a bit blury and looked like it was alterd. Also the guy was wearing regular work clothes like a contruction worker or somthing. This one was titled "So you want to skydive" IT was predtty ugly but defintly didnt look real. ~Shelly
  18. Yes Jumptown is a fun place to jumpCome on out, we would love to have ya!! ~Shelly
  19. You should definetly try the Sky Coaster. I went down there a month ago and Skyventure had coupons for the sky coaster. It is a good time. http://www.orlandosaving.com/skycoaster.htm Have fun!! ~Shelly
  20. Unfortunately if you signed on the dotted line they can do what ever they want. It sucks having to read all the fine print but sometimes you just have to.There are a bunch of stupid crap in those contracts. like a monthly statement is just a courtesy and if you dont get, you still need to pay on time. Most Credit Card companies wont let you use that as an excuse. I worked for Sears collection, and other third party agencies, for a few years and as far as the sunday thing goes, sunday is just another business day for them. I once called a pastor on a Sunday and asked him to pay his bill, boy was he pissed ! But usually if you are a good customer and pay on time they will let a late charge or two slide, and if they don't, just ask for a manager and tell them you will be taking your business elsewhere, and make a big stink. ~Shelly
  21. Hey I had the same problem, I was using a @aol.com e-mail address I tried like 4 times. I finally went to Yahoo.com and got a free e-mail account with them, and that worked just fine. ~Shelly
  22. On jump 13........I certainly wouldn't recommend trying to land on rear risers. I wouldn't even recommend it on jump 130. Or in my case jump 192. Been out a month now because of a rear riser flare gone bad (stuck brake line), and I'm not even sure what I did wrong. If I have the same problem on my next jump, I'm not sure I'd cut away, but I'll definitely PLF! Dave ===================================== Is it harder to do a rear riser landing with a smaller canopy or vise versa? Because I have been jumping a Raider 220 and I do rear riser flares up high all the time, I feel comfortable enough with them that if I was not injured I would land with them. I enjoy flying with my rear risers most of the time. Would this be because it is a very docile canopy? And congrats on doing the right thing!!! Ohh and Dont forget the beer!! ~Shelly
  23. Ok I am looking into buying a Sabre 170 DOM92 I saw it this weekend and it is still in very good condition and still crunchy. I was looking around on the forums and found a few scary posts about hard openings with the Sabres. No one at my dropzone nor the person I am buying the rig from mentioned this. Is this something I should be worrying about? Are Sabres really bad on opening? and does age slow the openings at all? All I know is this canopy hasn't been jumped since 2000 but im not sure why, and Im a bit worried that I should not be looking at this, that I might buy this canopy and not like it at all. Does any one have any recommendations about them? Thanks ~Shelly
  24. I had the same problem, I started jumping and had very little fear, but now that I jump more I know the risks and understand all the things that can go wrong with it. It is normal to be afraid, hello you are jumping out of an plane!!!! You should practice your emergency procedures until you are completely confident you know what to do in an emergency. I think that can be the best confidence builder, knowing your stuff (it was for me). But dont obses over everything that could go wrong, think about what you will do in each situation. You should find a coach you trust, sit down with them go over your procedures and when you are ready to jump again you will know. You dont have to walk into the DZ and make a jump the second you get there, wait until you feel better about your surroundings. Thats what I do. I never jump on the first few loads of the day. I always wait until im ready. So maybe I only get 2 or 3 jumps in when I go to the DZ, but it is better then going up right away and being freeked out from rushing and not jumping for the rest of the day. You should defiantly jump with someone you trust if you are scared. And opening High is a good Idea, you have more time to deal with any problems. I still wave off at around 4500. Good Luck I hope you get back out there!! ~Shelly
  25. QuoteFirst let me say Congradulations on passing your AFF. Next let me say. I WANT MY CASE OF BEER FOR YOUR FIRST!!!!!!!!!!!!!!LOL Get used to buying beer you will have a bunch of firsts, sometimes I think I spend more money on Beer then I do on jumping! Congrats! ~Shelly
